“We donโ€™t know yet who will enter the 2016 presidential contest. And the first screen is always about how their policies align with our own preferences. But I would suggest that is a necessary – but insufficient – test for how they will perform in office.”

Looking forward to President Obama’s road trip to inspire us with themes from his upcoming SOTU on January 20th. OFA would appreciate it if you are willing to host a watch party. You can create an event on barackobama.com/events. We need fresh energy!

Could be they were all for them?
It could be that the guy was on his way to unload his rash at the local Knights of Columbus meeting or the neighborhood V.F.W.
I get so sick of them when they try to portray that they are so “righteous”.
If the so-called “good cops” would speak out, it would surely help.
What are they so afraid of IF they are so “good”, as they say?

Just so true vc – cannot believe these folks are paid to stalk the President – Did we ever hear all this about any other President – or any other world leader. Where I live the PM is allowed to go on vacation without the Press – way past time the US did the same.

Or, if they have to go – to report in case anything major happens – show a little discretion. Honestly, they should have to pay a part of their fares; maybe then they’d take a break themselves.

No other world leader is followed by such a gaggle of reporters – they all seem so scared someone else might get the news first – each trip ONE person representing one media group would be more than sufficient – they all post the same news!

Different media cultures. Today’s WHPC is not quite as bad as paparazzi, but they’re working on it. Here, the press also followed the every move of W when he’d go to his “brush ranch” in Crawford, TX. Trouble is none of those people at his ranch ever much moved (not to mention thought or had interesting friends), so this is High Excitement Time for the WHPC. W also made an infamous Bushism once on the golf course, among other gaffes which the press caught, but let’s not think about that. Eek. In the past, they used to follow Ike and others to the golf course, and Reagan to his staged-photos-atop-a-horse ranch in CA. In the early years, they’d follow the young and lovely Kennedy family to, from, in and around Hyannis Port, but there was a modicum of privacy at that time (the press never “talked” about some of the goings-on). The only place that continues to serve as a real retreat seems to be inside Camp David (Ike’s favorite retreat, probably for that reason, I think I recall), or within somebody’s private compound.

President Obama has been the only one who’s been this bad of an “obsession,” like writing 1,000 words about how many licks he took of a snow cone in HI, as far back as my memory goes.

I would hope it is well past the top of the cycle JoB – no President should have to put up with this mob of attention seekers.

    GE TODville,

Thanks, NerdyW, for the tweets — always keeping us up-to-date, keeping this well-oiled machine running and on its toes.

I posted this on the previous thread, but after seeing jojo’s comment, it gave me the opportunity to tweet something unrelated (but also somehow relevant, LOL):

The @nytimes’ @MichaelSSchmidt RT’d this tweet from Chips:

In response to this article (which I hadn’t read):

    • 79 arapaho415
      January 3, 2015 at 8:50 pm

jojo posted this from the last thread. @MichaelSSchmidt’s article ends:
“One of the golfers who played with Mr. Obama said the way the president carried himself on the course provided significant insight into his character.

‘If you came down from Mars and saw his disposition on the golf course, you would think he would be a pretty good president,’ the golfer said. ‘Heโ€™s honest, he keeps his composure through terrible adversity, heโ€™s unruffled, he smiles, and he doesnโ€™t quit.’โ€

Which leads me to this article also from @nytimes:

      From the article:
“the object โ€” it was not an airplane, or satellite, a bird or a huge drone โ€” dimmed its lights and shot up through the sky before it started brightly pulsating again, then floating away…”

“In approximately two hours, we counted about 40 unidentifiable things flying high above us. We never checked with the military to see if there was an explanation because that would have seemed a surrender to skepticism.”

The one dollar bill met the twenty dollar bill and said, “Hey, where have you been? I haven’t seen you around here much.”

The twenty answered, “I’ve been hanging out at the casinos, went on a cruise and did the rounds of the ship, back to the United States for a while, went to a couple of baseball games, to the mall, that kind of stuff. How about you?”

The one dollar bill said, “You know, same old stuff … church, church, church.”

I’m tripping down memory lane (which I like to do from time to time) and this from Feb. 8, 2008 made me smile. Senator Obama was beginning a Super Tuesday speech and greeting his audience…

~ The girls are with us tonight, but we asked them did you want to come on stage, and Malia, our nine-year-old said, “Daddy, you know that’s not my thing.”

~ So they’re upstairs, doing what they do.

๐Ÿ˜€ Princess Malia, always calm, wise and outspoken. I remember her recent calm “That’s sad.” to ChuckieToad’s ‘book’, and I grin. I really โค that young lady!

They’re bored……there have been no crises they can blame on the President the last two weeks…..it’s been quiet, he’s relaxed and had a good time…….so, playing paparazzi. They know they have to go back to D.C. and start ‘working” so they have to justify their expense accounts while in Hawaii. What “tough” duty………LOL!!

      • 101 arapaho415
        January 3, 2015 at 10:48 pm

        Carolyn is absolutely right.

These jackals get *paid* to spend two weeks in Hawaii to check their emails and send tweets.

I hope that 2015 is the year MSM realizes that they’re paying too many people too many bucks for speculation and gossip.

There is no justification to have dozens of people from every national news outlet covering 2016 campaigns now.

I hope the American people, TOD included, don’t lay eyeballs on any 2016 story until 2016.

The only “hard” facts until next year will be campaign donations and expenditures. Everything else is gossip, conjecture and propaganda.

        • 102 vcprezofan2
          January 3, 2015 at 10:53 pm

I don’t know, Arapaho, but I somehow feel the MSM are quite satisfied with the speculation and gossip they get in return for their $$.

          • 103 arapaho415
            January 3, 2015 at 11:04 pm

I’m still hoping against hope that the beancounters at the national MSM inform the powers that be that they could safely cut their political staff in half (or more) until 2016 actually arrives.

The press is seething with jealousy now because PBO can casually drop by Eddie Vedders before hopping on his private jet.

You could tell by the way they reacted today when the WH announced that PBO would be selling (i.e., informing) Americans on his SOTU *before* delivering it. Very canny move by the WH because MSM *only* pays attention to SOTU *before* it happens (because they only know how to gossip and speculate). Once the speech is history, they move on to the next checklist item that GOP/Comcast/Kochs have penciled in for them to parrot in unison.

Nerdy, I love all the tweets and appreciate all the news, but the toon of Santa and the requests for body armor is heartbreaking. Each time you put together one of these searing collections of truth you bring a little light into the darkness.

  24. 110 arapaho415
    January 3, 2015 at 10:53 pm

These are the distressing conditions that the overpaid MSM have to *put up with* to be part of the WHPC purveyors of gossip.

I’m sure they wish they were in Crawford Texas right now (not).

    aloha tod peeps
gotta share a little story with you. we had a big storm and power outage last night, and then later this afternoon, our water quit (something about the pumps upslope). so my husband and i walked into town to a good local restaurant (the bamboo) under the full moon–beautiful night. stepped into the restaurant and at the first table were gabby giffords and mark kelly! completely relaxed and low key, and when i smiled mark smiled back ๐Ÿ™‚ gabby was getting seated with the help of their dinner companion. this is a tiny restaurant, in a tiny town, so i was very excited. came home and checked the internet, and sure enough they’re here for a conference: http://www.collaboratemeetings.com/2015hawaiisummit/ i had no idea this was happening, just up the road!

What a wonderful story, susanne! Glad you got to see them. I’m not surprised you knew how to “act” – just give ’em a smile, and let them enjoy their dinner. You would never make it in the WHPC! Ha.

        January 4, 2015 at 2:39 am

way too shy and polite ๐Ÿ™‚
but really, it’s such a folksy place, it just seemed best to smile and nod like i did with most other people there. except for the ones i hug, of course.

there’s a part 2 to the story. my husband went over to say hello to a local doctor at another table, who also happens to be our state representative (dem). hubby mentioned the gifford-kellys to him (he hadn’t noticed them), and the doc/rep said, coincidentally, his best friend from med school is their family doctor. so he went over and paid his respects, and bought their dinner. very small town stuff!

Good morning, TOD! Still in the hospital, but feeling much better. Expect that I’ll be here until Tuesday or so; hence, I’ll be canceling Wednesday’s Florida vacation. Part of my Mom’s Christmas gift was a trip to see her oldest niece. Tried to get my Mom to go anyway; no way she leaving “her baby” in the hospital… cรฉst la vivรฉ…

Oh Alycee, I’ve missed so many comments recently, I had no clue you were in hospital, I need to check back to see what happened. Wishing you the very best and a speedy recovery, look after yourself.
