    [Therapy Before Siesta]

    Poor lost Stephen Joseph Scalise
Caught carryin’ KKK materials in his valise
Said he had no knowledge of where he spoke
Nobody believes the lyin’ bigoted bloke
The other day in Congress had a tear in his eye
Hear he said to John Boehner, “Where am I?”
    Poor lost Stephen Joseph Scalise.

LL, I know. What a crackpot. I met him back when he was a well-regarded brain surgeon. He made groundbreaking discoveries in how to separate conjoined twins. He was revered in pediatric medical circle. I read his life story. He came from very humble beginnings and worked hard. I can’t believe some of the stuff I hear coming out of his mouth!

I was thinking today how fortunate the world is having this president at this time in our history. Although I’m not a religious person somehow I cannot help but believe that mysterious works were in order to lead this man into public service.

Never in my lifetime could I have ever dreamt that a man of color would ascensed to the presidency; never would I dared hope that equality for me and my GLBT peers world occurs; never in the life of the republic would I dared hope that same gender marriages would be permitted in the United States of America especially not in my native Commonwealth of Virginia.

In all the obstructionist activities one must look at the long game which this president has been masterful. There are several “keys” to a presidents legacy and the primary one would be the judiciary. With the aide of Senator Reid and Senator Leahy lifetime appointments have been made to the federal courts which some will survive in protecting legislative achievements made by this president for generations. The breath of these appointments include an unprecedented variety of folks from all walks of life. Interestingly enough it has bent the arch of justice from 80 percent white Christian males to 51 percent of seated federal judgeships.

Just caught up with your Memorable Moments; Wonderful! I think your compilation is one of my faves because you highlighted events/people that were/are hugely important to this administration and its good work, but that many of us forgot to mention; i.e., Sec of State Kerry (who we have to thank for introducing PBO to the world in 2004), The great Eric Holder, etc. And Sally Jewell! I love how the Dept of Interior has such fun and interesting tweets!

Thank you VC! and Happy 2015!

You are very welcome, MmeS! ๐Ÿ™‚
We are living in a time when, despite the harmful intent of the GOP, we have several leaders showing us what good governance is. I’m not sure what will happen after the Obama admin, but I’m very grateful that many in this admin opened *my political eyes* to character, integrity, determination, courage when faced with unbridled hate, and excellent work ethic. I have tremendous respect for them!

Wishing *you*, MMeS, blessings galore for 2015!

Chips, when will you answer that DM I sent you almost two years ago now? You surely need an administrative assistant on the home front, and no, DannyO’s reading/writing skills do not qualify him for the job….yet.

Chips is thinking ignoring you is sending a subtle message.

    • January 2, 2015 at 3:52 pm

Ha, sorry VC, meant to reply, but it escaped my rusty memory! Those instructions will take a bit of time to put together and I’m in serious chill-out mode, so hang in there, you should have them by, oh, March.

Chipsy-Daisy, March is my birth month, which means my mind will be another year older. Can you imagine THAT??!! How about negotiating for the end of January ( that’s a generous-on-my-part 3+ weeks to seriously chill)? What say you?

BTW, WAM(inute) aren’t these the same instructions you’ve been working on for years now? /runs quickly out of missile range

bringing this over from the last thread…..

i knew this was coming..it is difficult to go from protest to organizationโ€ฆto form an organization that addresses the issues of the demonstrationsโ€ฆ.difficult to consolidate leadershipโ€ฆesp when there is a lil enmity coming from parts of the protesters towards established civil rights organizationโ€ฆ

    A Rebellion does not make a revolutionโ€ฆ

now the hard work has to beginโ€ฆthe Ferguson protesters do not need to re-invent the wheelโ€ฆthere are folks in civil rights organizations who have been where they are nowโ€ฆFerguson is not new..it is just one more step in the march towards freedomโ€ฆ.

Let Us March Onโ€ฆtill Victory is done!

Bring my reply over too, then ๐Ÿ™‚ …

Commenting late on this Prettyfoot, but I heartily agree! Iโ€™ll never forget when I saw the Occupy kids reject and disrespect Rep. John Lewis, who nearly lost his life doing the hard work that they were too lazy to do. That was the day when the Occupy movement completely lost me.

Today is my anniversary. 34 years. I think back on these years and it amazes me all that we’ve been through and all that we’ve done….and have yet to do. My number one rule…have a GREAT sense of humor and don’t take everything so serious. Serious things are serious, ruffling feathers is not:)

Fox will claim they are members and we , the taxpayers, had to pay for that.

    • January 2, 2015 at 9:04 pm

I really don’t see what is the big deal? The President makes almost $500k a year, what is wrong having a special dinner at an exclusive restaurant for $1,000. If he bought her jewelry it would be more than that. The Obama-haters were complaining about how elitest it is when people are starving. People are starving because of the GOP/Teaparty cuts to food stamps and UI. If it were up to PBO he would increase the minimum wage, food stamps, UI, and anything necessary to help those that are struggling.

Hello TOD people, want to pass this on to all of you, emailed to me by one of my sons: http://www.nashville.gov/News-Media/News-Article/ID/3605/A-Christmas-Message-for-the-MNPD-from-Chief-Steve-Anderson This is an intelligent, open-minded and actually imo, a quite excellent letter from the Police Chief of Nashville to one citizen.. trust me, it will restore some faith in our police.

    • January 2, 2015 at 5:10 pm

Wow sherijr, this fella sounds seriously enlightened, loved the way he replied to that complainer.

      Found this:

*Great* link sherijr, thank you so much.

      • 136 sherijr
        January 2, 2015 at 5:14 pm

Isn’t he though? Enlightened is a perfect description Chips… this is exactly how they should all feel, about themselves, about ‘we’ the citizens. So there’s two now we can feel good about, this Chief and the Pittsburg Chief. There has to be more out there.

        • January 2, 2015 at 5:19 pm

Especially loved this Sherijr, methinks the Police Chief sensed he was speaking to a gubmint-hating Teabagger:

“First, it is laudable that you are teaching your son respect for the police and other authority figures. However, a better lesson might be that it is the government the police serve that should be respected. The police are merely a representative of a government formed by the people for the people โ€” for all people. Being respectful of the government would mean being respectful of all persons, no matter what their views.”

Damn it, we need a 1000 police chiefs like him.

Thanks again sherijr, a bright spot in the middle of all this darkness.

          • 138 sherijr
            January 2, 2015 at 5:31 pm

Yep that was a thoughtful and clear eyed portion of his letter- he knows who he’s talking to. I love that previous to the letter that he wrote about the “majority” of folks basically siding with how his police had handled things.. and that it was a mere 5% on either spectrum that viewed things differently. He really made his points well with this letter, no doubt where he stands and how he thinks. When someone in a power position uses their power reasonably and decently- that makes them 10 times more powerful, imo. I agree we need a thousand- shoot, thousands more like him, Chips.
