I just love this picture so much.
As much as they have been through taking on the tremendous task of doing the right thing for this country, making sacrifices enduring the outright disrespect. MO still cracks him up!
      How wonderful is that!
They are still touching, holding hands and looking each each other eyes as when they first came upon the political scene.
It is just pleasure and joy to watch them love on each other and laugh.
Happy New Year POTUS and FLOTUS!
      Thank you.

Welp, I just wasted 2 hours of my last day of vacation.

The Hoover vacuum cartoon reminded me of when I used to review Emergency Room charts many, many years ago.

One was a man you had a vacuum cleaner hose stuck on his penis.

Other people came in for ” foreign body removals ” from all kinds of places in their bodies…… ( don’t ask !!!!)

And Liverpool lost a two goal lead at home to Leicester. If only United had got a last minute winner, this would have been the greatest day in history.

I usually ignore the TundraTwit because twits will be twits (for instance that ridiculous Wasilla brawl that the eldest “how much more plastic surgery can I have done before I’m 25” daughter apparently started a few months ago), but SPalin really is one sick puppy.

MSM need to hold the new Armed Services Committee chairman accountable for this looney tunes/coo-coo-for-cocoa-puffs (as Nicolle Wallace anointed her):

This Alaska blog LOVES The Obama Diary……he is always giving it a h/t

Just a few photos of our fearless leader throughout 2014.

There are a whole lot more over at The Obama Diary if you want to see them.

These next two years are going to be really tough for the President, so I hope we get to see that infectious smile of his in spite of that.

Mark my words history is going to judge him as one of the best this country has ever produced. Of that I have no doubt.

I am hopeless when it comes to time zones, but it appears air space has been cleared between 6:15 and 7:30 UTC Sunday. I’m probably way off, but that sounds like between 10:15pm Saturday and 12:30am Sunday, EST?

    Must Read.

    http://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/newtown-lawsuit-moral-work-gun-control

But on the problem of gun control, no matter how far we may seem from a sane solution, the public deliberations are finished. Instead of bleeding natural allies, new ones join all the time, including the voters who rejected attempts to eliminate checks and delays on weapon sales in the last election. No honest or scrupulous person can any longer reject the evidence that gun control controls gun violence. It can be rejected only by rage and hysteria and denial and with the Second Amendment invoked, not as a document with a specific and surprising history, but as a semi-theological dogma. The argument has been revealed conclusively to be between people who actually want to reduce the number of gun massacres and those who prefer an attachment to lethal symbols of power. (There are other symbols of personal autonomy, safer to small children.)

The majority is there, and the mental work is accomplished. This means that though the moral workโ€”of persuasion, conviction, and shamingโ€”needs to go on, we can be confident that it will go on and win, too, in the long run. There is nothing so irresistible as an idea that happens to be true. Piece by piece, legislation by litigation, the curse will be lifted.

Thanks for this, Df. My husband and I were having a discussion about this today. He is very pessimistic about anything ever happening, but I hold out hope. If you had told me in the 50’s that a campaign against cigarette smoking, entrenched at every level of society, would succeed, I wouldn’t have believed it. I’m glad the author thinks we’ll win, in the long run.

Did you see this on a previous thread?

Politicians need to wake up and not cower before the NRA.

Even after immersing myself on twitter and the like, what I learned in grade school still applies: majority rule with minority rights. Twenty percent of gun owners are dictating life for the rest of us.

Dems with spines would remind the American public of this:

Watching a BBC series from 2001 called “Ancient Apocalypse.” My takeaways.

    1. Climate change seems to be the cause of all the civilizational collapses.
    2. Said collapses lead to cannibalism.

I guess Cormac McCarthy knew of what he wrote.

European Union rules will oblige new networked devices such as modems and internet-connected televisions to switch themselves off when not in use.

Many gadgets are connected to the internet 24/7, using 25-100 watts while their owners sleep.

But new devices sold from Thursday will fall to sleep, using a trickle of power when they are not in use.

The European Commission said the move would save an average household about ยฃ32 a year.

The change is part of the EU’s Ecodesign initiative, which aims to cut costs, improve competitiveness and reduce carbon emissions.
