He’ll be here in 20-ish minutes DF. If my day continues as it has started, he’ll get trapped under the desk and I’ll have to call the fire people to extract him.

Apologies to anyone who tracked my quote on the previous post.
I looked it up and found it was a sarcastic mean statement about Julius Caesar, form Shakespear’s play. Said by an enemy before they gang stabbed him. OMG.
Sometimes a 1/2 remembered bit of education gets misused by those of us far along in years. Again, so sorry. Need to look up my quotes before I share them and believe me, I will.

Oh, Vicki, we all do that, especially quotes from Shakespeare which are so deeply embedded in our cultural psyche that we forget where they’re from. I’m sure that good old Will himself would be thrilled that someone is using his phrases, no matter what the context.

I would phrase it differently…4 things REPUBLICANS said would happen…not “supposed” to happen. I know that TP said that, but I disagree with the wording totally. I think that this kind of stuff needs to be pointed out each and every time….shows people that ARE paying attention just how wrong these frauds are.

HEADLINE: 4 Things That Were Supposed To Happen By 2015 Because Obama Was Reelected

// It’s now 2015, nearly two years after Obama took the oath of office for the second time. A few years ago, prognosticators were very confident about what would happen to America by now because of Obama’s reelection. Let’s check in and see how their predictions turned out: //

As we stand at the threshold of a new year, American consumers are feeling pretty good about themselves. Powered by optimistic outlooks for both jobs and business conditions, as well as plummeting gas prices, consumer confidence bubbled to highs not seen since February of 2008.

As this Reuters graphic shows, the index from non-profit research group The Conference Board came in at 92.6 in December (against a 1985 baseline of 100), reflecting a steady improvement since the pit of the Great Recession. Confidence that the availability of jobs is β€œplentiful” hit 17.1 percent, reflecting a steady decrease in the belief that jobs are β€œhard to find.” Similarly, the increase in the view that current business conditions are β€œgood” tracks to a consistent decline, to 19.6 percent, in the opinion that conditions are β€œbad.”

Can you forgive folks who are not contrite and keep doing the transgressions…can’t you only forgive those who want to be forgiven…there is a passage when Christ was on the cross…when he asks God to “forgive them for they know not what they do”….I think of the arrogance of the NYPD…of the sheer malice of Louie Gohmert…of the lies from Scalise…how can we forgive these people…
I remember a nun..Sister Mary Trainor…who was my favorite teacher when i was a senior in High School…she told me that forgiveness was more for the person who forgives…i think that she did not want me to hate my oppressor….to lose my soul to the dark side….to maintain my humanity…i wonder if anyone ever worries about the soul of the oppressor…just askin

In 2015 the struggle for peace… justice… freedom… will continue because the forces that seek to enslave us are plotting as we speak….

      Facing the Rising Sun

let us march on til Victory is won!

Great questions on the issue of forgiveness. I have difficulty with this also, especially when I see Republicans treating President Obama as if he was dirt, or worse when he is the epitome of kindness, humanity as well as being a fantastic president. I say let God judge their souls, but I must admit I would rejoice if they fall apart. I am aghast at how they seem to be thriving….sigh.

      • January 1, 2015 at 2:36 pm

Yes there can be forgiveness without contrition. But it takes hard work. And it’s not a one time thing. You might feel as if you have forgiven and then another whole area of anger rises up and you have to deal with that too. And it doesn’t mean you have to stay and tolerate the mistreatment. You can work and speak against it or get yourself out but you can still forgive. Having been in an abusive marital relationship for 16 years, it was my struggle too (although it’s much different than being oppressed by an entire culture certainly). If you can’t forgive, that person continues to occupy a place in your life. Unforgiveness leads to bitterness and hatred. Forgiveness leads to freedom and compassion.

Whew! Glad I got out of that one!!! 😯

The Baker Act allows for involuntary examination (what some call emergency or involuntary commitment). It can be initiated by judges, law enforcement officials, physicians, or mental health professionals. There must be evidence that the person:

possibly has a mental illness (as defined in the Baker Act).
is a harm to self, harm to others, or self neglectful (as defined in the Baker Act).
Examinations may last up to 72 hours after a person is deemed medically stable and occur in over 100 Florida Department of Children and Families-designated receiving facilities statewide.

    • January 1, 2015 at 12:20 pm

i like the notion of ending white silence…i would like to talk about why folks do remain silent….is it out of fear or ignorance…does the notion of speaking out challenge their comfort zone and presumptions of what America is…

There was an anti-police brutality protest outside of an Eagles Game…a few weeks ago…one of my co-workers was at the game…traffic was blocked for an hour…he was not happy about the delay….when he saw me the next day at work…he asked me if i had been in the demonstration outside of the game…i told him no…he started to berate the protesters for causing his inconvenience….i listened …and then i told him that he was lucky because he could go home to his wife and children…he left my office in a huff…for a few days…he had a stony aura about him…i wonder if he even thought about my words…

This conversation about the two Americas is an old discussion…but have we ever really seriously had it….

Happy New Year everyone!!!! It’s 2015. We even stayed up till midnight. We were watching Jersey Boys. Surprised me that I still knew all the words to all the songs they preformed. Brought back many memories.

I want to tell you all about the best Christmas present I got. It was the book “A Long Way Home” by Saroo Brierley. This is a true story of a 5 year old boy from India who gets lost from his family in a train station, lives on his own for 6 months in Calcutta and ends up being adopted by a family in Australia. As an adult he does find his way back to his family in India. It is a wonderful story and I especially loved it because it brought the countries of our Amk and 99ts together. I highly recommend this book to everyone. I believe it will be made into a movie sometime. It is a triumph of the human spirit.

Hope everyone has a great day. I am watching the Rose Parade. Brings back the memories of sleeping on the parade route in my youth. I don’t remember that it was quite this cold when I was doing it.

YES! It’s cold in Phoenix:) About 37 degrees right now….hate it! Next week, when I go back to work…back in the 70’s. Figures:) So glad you liked the Border Collie video. I thought it was adorable…and true for any Border Collie I’ve known, and I’ve known a lot! Friend used to raise them and train them for agility….smart, smart dogs. I miss my little Jack. I rescued him from the middle of the road. Almost got hit by a UHaul…I took him to my vet to get him checked out after that rescue, and he was partially blind in one eye and ended up having seizures from time to time…saddest thing. My vet said someone abused him…hit him in the head with a board or something….which is why he had the seizures. I loved that dog ( I love ALL my rescued animals!) He lived a long, good life with us…finally passed some years ago from old age.

          Off to the store…..
