Nerdy! Good news and more good news. Thank you for telling us the news.
Thank you to PBO for making the country a better place day by day in so far as he is able. And oh, boy, is he able!

NW, thanks for posting the Quvenzhane tweet. Target should be ashamed for not working with her & her team and put girls of color in their clothing advertising. We should boycott and not purchase any Annie products from Target. She isn’t gonna benefit financially from this marketing.

      You’re welcome, GGail.

I heard about the Target mess and it reminded me of a white father’s tweet on Twitter. His daughter was searching for Annie on Netflix and when she found out it was a white Annie, she refused to watch the movie because Quvenzhané Wallis IS Annie to her and millions of young children around the world.

For Target to only use white models and no girls of color or no Quvenzhané, is ridiculous, greedy, and morally bankrupt.

No matter how hard some try to take away her shine, Quvenzhané Wallis just keeps soaring higher and shining brighter. I wish her continued success.

Former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo has died, according to his son Chris Cuomo, the host of CNN’s “New Day.” He was 82.

Mario Cuomo had been hospitalized recently to treat a heart condition.

He was New York’s governor for three terms from 1983 to 1995.

59 to 20 was the final score.

NerdyWonka, you are the very best. Still another round-up of hilarious, ironic, worthy and enlightening tweets. I can’t fathom how you do it, but you do and you keep on doing it. A precious and generous gift. Means the world to me. In this basketful, I especially thank you for the TPM story on Mr. Ricardo Zuniga and the dawn of a new day in Cuba. I had seen and loved the photo of Secretary Rice with him in the oval office while PBO spoke on the phone about it; and I had no idea of the story of the gentleman pictured who made it possible for PBO to realize this great goal. Happy New Year to you NW!

The Kevin Drum article on the front page that @3ChicsPolitico links to is the best yet on what’s happened since the midterm elections.

Kevin provides a good timeline of events and concludes with this (which Bobfr, among others, has been saying since Nov 5th):

All of President Obama’s accomplishments since Nov 10th “seriously mess with Republican heads. GOP leaders had plans for January, but now they may or may not be able to do much about them. Instead, they’re going to have to deal with enraged tea partiers insisting that they spend time trying to repeal Obama’s actions. They can’t, of course, but they have to show that they’re trying. So there’s a good chance that they’ll spend their first few months in semi-chaos, responding to Obama’s provocations instead of working on their own agenda.”

Please proceed Boehner and McTurtle. 🙂

So said the young man who was trying to persuade me he could watch a movie on his iphone (?), while doing his math assignment! 🙄 Of course, by your own admission you have seen these movies over and over so no great focus is required.

I heard this on the radio very early this morning, but MSM seems to be ignoring this story.

No hope for follow up from the MSM since the former Governor of the state where the MSM resides sadly passed away tonight — since one of his sons is current Governor of NY, that news will overshadow anything except for death and tragedy from other parts of the world.

This tweet links to @wsj article by Richard Haass that says that it’s time for North and South Korea to re-unify:

    From the article:
“The serious threat posed by North Korea far transcends cyberspace. Only one approach is commensurate with the challenge: ending North Korea’s existence as an independent entity and reunifying the Korean Peninsula.”

    Earlier today:

This is the first glimmer of hope that North Korea might join the rest of the world.

I don’t hold out much hope for actual re-unification, but do hope that North Korean citizens join the rest of the world soon.

Nerdy, again you give us a wide sweep of what’s happening, from macroeconomic news to the insensitivity of Target and I don’t for one minute underestimate how difficult that is. I especially loved that the LA Times got the president’s reference to the fourth quarter. He has always told us that he’s a fourth quarters player who triumphs when the chips are down and the stress level is high. When he made the remark “interesting things happen in the fourth quarters,” it was the equivalent of throwing down the glove before a duel and every one in Washington should have gone on high alert. It’s going to be one heck of a ride in the few months.

Hey Chips, did you see the @ObamaCat tweets today (around 9pm CST) about/to the psycho sick stalker thief? Appears he buys thousands of followers on Twitter and has only 2007 “real” ones. I’m sure 95% of them have no idea all his tweets are stolen. I’m not posting the tweets here but you may want to look up ObamaCat calling him out – it’s awesome.

I’ve mentioned before that I was on a jury panel where one juror folded her arms and said flatly “Police can do no wrong” (we were a hung jury on an obstruction of justice charge which involved a choke hold).

So I know from first hand experience these people exist in the world. I wonder what they have to say about this (and the Georgia police chief who “accidentally” shot his wife last night):

just dropping in, and see you’ve scooped the locals with your great photos of pbo and his entourage at island snow. must say, in case any pundits are searching for ways to spin pbo’s enjoyment of a popular treat, that it takes a brave and committed individual to order a huge, multi-syrup shave ice and eat it while wearing a white shirt. look for more risk-taking in the next year!! 🙂

I hope he is, as well, Bob. I followed that last retired police officer (from out of town) on Twitter who was protesting with the community in Ferguson, and spotted he was making anti-President Obama comments (I forget the topic) in a later tweet or two from him. And then I unfollowed him. Keeping my fingers crossed about Chief McLay, because I like the path he’s put himself on …
