Going to have an exceptionally lazy posting day today, partly because (a) I’m back-ish at work and (b) I have to fix that obliterated desk πŸ˜•

A trazillion thanks to everyone who has emailed their ‘Most Memorable Moments’, will get around to posting more through the next week when I sort out the pics and videos.

    Good Morning Chips and TOD.

Well I am a big Christmas fan but this Holiday season has been a bit taxing. First having the twins in Kansas and not here was a bummer but with lots of family around I got over my selfishness only to get upset again when I heard that Tamara ended up in the emergency room in Kansas with some upper respiratory thing. She’s okay. Then my dear Aunt having chest pains on Christmas Day and ending up in the hospital (her surgery is today), So to continue on this downward spiral for this Holiday season we got the call last night that my husband’s brother was rushed to the hospital and sadly he didn’t make it. He passed away last night. He was diabetic.

Just for the record…My 2014 Holiday season sucks!!!

Now I’m off to the hospital for my Aunt.

Y’all have a good day. I’ll check in when I can.

    • December 30, 2014 at 7:46 am

Oh good grief Donna, what a horrible set of events. So, so sorry about your brother-in-law, may he rest in peace. And wishing your Aunt all the best today with her surgery. You really will be relieved when this holiday season is over. Take care of yourself.

Oh, Donna, I am so so sorry for the loss of your brother-in-law. Your husband must be devastated. I will send all the positive, healing thoughts your way for your aunt’s surgery–please let us know how she does. Glad to hear Tamara is better, but this is all too much for a ‘holiday’ season. My heart truly goes out to you and your family.

Chips, since I came to TOD via BWD, I never saw your first post on the day you decided to start this adventure. Would you consider sharing it with us someday or telling us why you got started? Since it’s end-of-the-year retrospective time, it would be fun to ‘remember’ day 1, especially since your coming very close to 29 mil hits.

    • December 30, 2014 at 7:52 am

Holy smokes Jackie, we were all young then!!

This was the first ever TOD post – look at the gazillions of comments!!!! πŸ˜†

There was no masterplan, honest, I’d never had a blog in my life, so was clueless (Amk? Hush). I just loved the photography from Pete Souza, Scout Tufankjian, etc, so decided to post a couple of pics, not expecting anyone to ever come see them! I almost fainted when the first comment appeared. I can’t even remember when/how I first became buddies with BWD, I’ll have to ask her when she wakes up!

      • 24 donna dem 4 obama
        December 30, 2014 at 8:05 am

Okay before I leave for the hospital I will expand on this a little…

There was a blogger on the old OFA blog named CR. She was a warrior against the trolls and used to go after them on that site. Well the stupid people over there blocked her from the site for her efforts. She went and started her own blog. It is called Pro President Obama Blog http://propresobama.org/

Some of us from the OFA blog would visit her site and BWD was one of those who would come there from time to time. We were encouraging BWD to start her own blog. CR was the first person who introduced me to The Obama Diary. She would on occasion link to this site because of the awesome pictures Chips used to post.

Those of us at the OFA blog started sharing the TOD link over there as well. Then BWD started her blog and most everyone went there because it was troll free.

Chips was over here posting daily with just a handful of people commenting. As BWD’s site grew so did TOD because BWD used to link to this site often.

Once BWD shutdown her site this became the go to site for those of us who wanted a troll free zone and the rest his history…..

You were an original, Donna, like a pioneer or the folks on the Mayflower.

        • December 30, 2014 at 8:45 am

This is very much how I remember it also Donna (my prayers to you and your family..here’s to a brighter time soon). This is the only site I go to for the truth and the very latest on PBO. Thanks Chips, the support bloggers and wider TOD community. May 2015 be brighter for all of us.

        • December 30, 2014 at 9:53 am

Yes, this is how I think I would up here, too. Some of die hard OFA blog posters were truly devastated when they changed their format and commenting there was never the same. CR filled a void but then Chips came along and really built this fabulous community and to whom I’ll be forever grateful!!

        • December 30, 2014 at 10:04 am

Ah, thanks a million for that history Donna, I marvel at your memory. I’m completely blank on how I first bumped in to BWD!

        • December 30, 2014 at 10:19 am

It was through BWD’s “The Only Adult in The Room” site I came to be a regular on TOD – and I couldn’t be happier!!! πŸ™‚

I used to post regularly at HuffnPuff , followed by PlanetPOV (under a different user name), and then started posting on Old Orange as my current name. BWD used to post lovely picture diaries at Old Orange and her photo diaries were like an oasis in a very dry and hostile desert. But unfortunately, Kos allowed the most vitriolic, nasty, anti-Obama element to suck up the positive energy there, drive BWD away, and nearly destroy his site.

So BWD set up her own site, I joined, and I started seeing more and more great pics from TOD while still a regular on TOAITR, so I would occasionally lurk for a while before making the full switch when BWD shut down her site. Been a FANTASTIC 4 years with TOD!…

Wow! That was it–a single photo? That’s a very tiny acorn from which to grow this great oak of a site. There must have been a lot of people craving a place that wasn’t cynical, snide and continually undermining our new president. I know I was. Thanks for stepping out and taking the chance. You didn’t just start a blog, you created a haven.

          GM JackieG.

BWD’s posts at dKos were always my favorite. It was obvious that she scoured available photos and selected the ones she posted with love and care.

Although I stopped visiting there many moons ago, dKos was a thrilling place in 2008. I can still remember the open thread to comment when PBO accepted the Dem nomination — the first thread was open mere seconds, with a second thread posted that read (something to the effect): “new thread because the first one filled up in the time it took for @BarackObama to walk to the microphone”.

LOL. Thrilling times indeed — I think the first open thread got about 4,000 comments in 30 seconds or so (this might be completely wrong, it’s what I recall).

Really missed BWD photos. I came here from a blog whose author has blocked me on Twitter because of an innocuous tweet I sent him when the #Snowdenwald story was shoved down our throats by the odious GG.

Love this trip down memory lane (thanks JackieG) — aside from the wonders of all-things-related to PBO and FLOTUS and the stunning humor, warmth and dedication by Chips and NW, my favorite thing about this blog is NO TROLLS. So sick of accidentally seeing RWNJ unhinged comments elsewhere in the webosphere.

          Love TOD, love TODers.

Thank you – and Donna – for the history. I first saw BWDs picture posts at the orange place & loved them; when they disappeared I went looking and found her blog. Then she linked to TOD and sometime or other I lurked here. The blog was full of comments by then. Took me forever to post a comment – there are many US blogs where folks don’t much like “outsiders” posting – so I was wary – but I sure got a warm welcome. πŸ™‚

99ts, the orange place was where I first found BWD. Her presentations were the highlights in that negative place and then everyone started dumping on her for putting a positive face on things. When she left, I left and joined her group. I, too, used to drop in at TOD occasionally, but was too shy to post at first. Looks as if we’ve all grown together here.

      • December 30, 2014 at 9:42 am

        GM Jackie….

i had such trepidation at the thought of what might happen next year….

but the President’s pressor and his recent actions have calmed me….i have also be heartened by the country/world wide protests and fight back taking place…

it has never been easy to move forward…but i will not give into despair…doom & gloom…as a fellow organizing friend used to say to me …You have the Strength of Kings & Queens in your wings….smilin…

there are lines from the song “Lift Every Voice and Sing” that have always bolstered me…

Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us,
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun
Let us march on till victory is won.

JER posted a link to this article, which reads very differently than what the despicable MSM headlined yesterday (my computer “news”feed headlined: “Obama’s golf game disrupts soldiers’ wedding).

My guess is that the MSM, who think they are paid to whine, (but are getting a 2 week, all-expenses-paid respite from DC winter) “interviewed” people leaving a wedding party and their editors stateside leapt at the Obama-bashing opportunity.

While most wedding photos are predictably the same, this one is historic, something that every member of the wedding party will cherish forever:

P.S. – I mentioned last night that the groom is obviously part of the #TanSuitGate conspiracy, LOL.

    Good morning, TOD.
I am reading with interest the comments on how we got here.
I remember reading Al Giordano’s The Field during the 2008 campaign, which led me to BWD and then to TOD.

Concurrently I read about PBO in the Press and watched how the television media covered Our President.

Oh, my. Bit by bit I realized how dreadful and dishonest the coverage was. Lies by Omission, especially.

The pinnacle of disgusting lying by ommision was reached, I think, last week.
The New York Times 20 page extra special supplement of 2014 in Pictures featured a giant full-color photo of Chris Christie at his State of The State speech in NJ—a photo calculated to show Christie as a President of the USA, not just New Jersey.
A very small black and white photo of Bill de Blasio’s back giving a speech. And a small b&w of Mitch McConnell.

NOT a single photograph of POTUS.
    Not a mention of POTUS.

2014 apparently came and went without any president whatsoever, as far as the NYTimes is concerned.

I used to think I knew what propaganda is, but now I see I hadn’t a clue.

What if anything can be done about this type of blackout?

    • 75 jackiegrumbacher
      December 30, 2014 at 9:42 am

Vicki, I don’t know the answer to the question of what can be done because propaganda is so endemic to the American media that truth has ceased to exist. It’s no wonder a confused electorate refuses to turn out on election day when they have simply no idea what’s going on in the world or in their country. If I could, I would teach every school child to disbelieve everything they read, hear or see in the media. I would urge every parent to train their children to probe so-called received wisdom, ask questions and develop their own opinions based on research, analysis and the lost art of “thinking.” I fear USA will go down a very dark path after 2017 and there will come a point of no return when we have lost even the semblance of a democratic republic. The GOP will act monstrously in the next two years and will spend each day giving grief to both the president and the American people. The years we have had with President Obama will be the golden time in history and we will look back on it in wonder. It saddens me to the core that our future generations won’t know or understand what greatness in leadership means.

      December 30, 2014 at 9:49 am

    • December 30, 2014 at 10:34 am

I don’t even know how to express my disgust at this. Like you, I see I’ve been overestimating my notion of what propaganda our MSM has become.

      • December 30, 2014 at 12:23 pm

Meta, well said! Those hollow sycophantic creeps show their sorry behinds when they pull stunts like this, and I can’t imagine how they hold their heads up and consider themselves journalists. Scalise told the New Orleans Times-Picayune on Monday that he, β€œdidn’t know who all of these groups were and I detest any kind of hate group.

β€œFor anyone to suggest that I was involved with a group like that is insulting and ludicrous,” he said.

Scalise has gotten some support from minority politicians from both parties, including Democratic Rep. Cedric Richmond (La.), who is African-American. Richmond told the New Orleans Times-Picayune, β€œI don’t think Steve Scalise has a racist bone in his body.” Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R), the son of Indian immigrants, has also backed Scalise.

But Scalise’s record in Louisiana is now being closely reviewed for any signs of racial bias. As a state representative in Baton Rouge, for example, Scalise voted twice against establishing Martin Luther King Jr. day as a holiday. His congressional leadership office has yet to explain those votes.

And in 1997, Scalise voted against a bill to prohibit hate crimes based on race, class or sexual orientation.
