2014: 50 Most Memorable Moments

Mainly a smile or two – 50 to 11 in no particular order, but top 10 = top 10!

****

50 TODers All Through 2014

Too many Memorable Moments to mention. The Muhammad Ali of bloggy people: The Greatest 🙂

29 Stonehenge

It was lovely enough seeing the President at Stonehenge, but imagine how James and Janice Raffle and their kids felt when they bumped in to him there?

Janice: “He was really sweet…. he said that I was quite outnumbered because I have three little boys as well as my husband. There was a bit of banter between the boys, saying boys are best and he said ‘Well, I don’t know if I agree with that’. He was really kind, it was a really amazing experience for all of us.”

James: “Incredible!”.

There was something kind of exceptional about seeing PBO tour the Colosseum, knowing how much he would appreciate the experience ….. all the time thinking ‘imagine if that was GWB?’ (“It looks mighty shabby – was it built recently?”)

AG Holder will leave behind a record of civil rights’ achievements like few – if any – others.

21 The Loneliest Job In The World

President Obama makes comments on Ferguson at a news conference at the White House

Ferguson, we were told, was ‘Obama’s fault’, his ‘Katrina’, because racism and police brutality, as we know, didn’t exist before January 2009 – and even if they did, why didn’t he, um, issue an executive order to remove racists from every police force in America?

But enough about self-promoters like Shaun King, who thinks tweeting = activism.

When his like were still in diapers, some folk were walking the walk – not tweeting the tweet:

As for the Blackademics …. well, @Only4RM sorted one of them:

Oh, Chips! This was worth waiting for!

So many things worth remembering and so many that I missed the first time (never saw that Fallon/Springsteen spoof/burn on Christie! Awesome!)

    Love the pic of Danny!

#15 was The Tweet of the Year for sure!

Oh, and PBO’s response to that heckler! “He thought happy hour started earlier” finally, the thought bubble spoken aloud 🙂 You know he thinks that so many times with those crazy hecklers who obviously pay no attention to his actual policies and actions.

O.k., I have to go make some dinner and then come back later to savor these!

President Barack Obama has said Vladimir Putin made a “strategic mistake” when he annexed Crimea, in a move that was “not so smart”.

Those thinking his Russian counterpart was a “genius” had been proven wrong by Russia’s economic crisis, he said.

International sanctions had made Russia’s economy particularly vulnerable to changes in oil price, Mr Obama said.

He also refused to rule out opening a US embassy in Iran soon.

“I never say never but I think these things have to go in steps” he told NPR’s Steve Inskeep in the Oval Office.

Opening an embassy in Iran will cause RWMJ heads to explode and will dredge up so many unhappy memories from 1979, a terrible year for the US after a dismal decade that saw the nightly reporting of Vietnam war deaths, the continuation of the draft lottery for boys turning 18, the first OPEC oil crisis (1973), Patty Hearst kidnapping/SLA shootout in LA (1974), Watergate/Nixon resigning (1972-74), the Jonestown mass suicide/homicides (1978) double-digit inflation through the early 1980s. The 1970s concluded with 1979 Iran hostage situation and the second OPEC gas shortage.

Youngun’s have no idea how much media saturation there was on these events, way before 24/7 cable news. Every one of these items were on the nightly news at 6:30 pm. Patty Hearst’s parents were on the news every night with Patty’s then-boyfriend Steven, etc.

P.S. – All dates from memory, so no doubt errors above, but you get the gist on why we don’t want to be reminded of that decade.

Oh Chips, this wonderful selection has me laughing, crying, howling and chuckling and all emotions in between. I could pour over these memories for hours, replaying the tapes and watching our incredible president be the best ever at this job. What a terrific gift for the end of the year. Thank you for pulling it all together.

Chips this was clearly worth the wait. 🙂

This thread is full of awesomeness!!!!!!!!!

Thank you TOD for your kind words earlier today regarding my Aunt and grand baby Tamara. Aunt V will be having surgery tomorrow and Tay (as we like to call her) is on the mend..

For your evening enjoyment here are the twins in Kansas on Christmas morning. That butterfly rocker was a hoot!

Love this happy photo, Donna. You obviously are so proud! Hope both your aunt and your granddaughter are better soon.

I was sharing a short visit with my 3-year-old great grandson today, while Mommy was working. He said to me, using a withering voice, although a few minutes before this he was happy as a lark, “I miss Mommy. She’s been my Mommy for a long time.”

      What’s not to love? ❤

I don’t usually quote Chris Hayes – but this tweet on BJ linked by Lamh is worth a read if you did not know about the content

    Christopher Hayes @chrislhayes · 2h 2 hours ago
In 2004, Louisiana had a vote on the MLK holiday. 90 legislators voted for it. 6 voted against. Scalise was one of the 6.

The man who doesn’t know anything – hopefully most ion congress won’t want to know him. Going to be a fun year with the GOP fighting with the GOP about legislation that will be vetoed.

    Stupendous collection, Chips!

No wonder those 16-ish minutes took a wee bit longer — an amazing compilation.

I’ll bet #39 (Danny Hating On His Attention-Rival: TOD) was taken just before you clicked on the “Post Thread” button (after having wrestled the laptop away from Mr. Big Eyes).

Lots of stuff I forgot happened this year, so much has happened in what the idiotic MSM refer to as a slow year.

Thanks for compiling — love that you gave top spots to our President’s impeccable comedic timing. The lazy MSM are incapable of connecting the fact that PBO appears on top rated network and online comedy shows to reach real Americans about ACA.

One of the other things that amazed me was how few tweets the MSM sent about PBO and FLOTUS lunching with their Lakota friends on the day that PBO announced his executive action on immigration — just the fact that PBO and FLOTUS were dining out midday should have made them take notice. Compare the number of tweets about PBO pwning MSM/GOP/Comcast/Kochs to the number of tweets about #TanSuitGate.

    • 64 arapaho415
      December 29, 2014 at 10:53 pm

It’s worthwhile to read the original post that started this feeding frenzy. The blogmaster is a gifted writer who opens his viral blog post (with only 20 RTs?):
“Twelve years ago last May, the spacious but plainly appointed conference rooms of the Landmark Best Western Hotel in Metairie, Louisiana, a 16-story, drably-colored octagon-shaped tower that juts into an empty skyline and hugs Interstate 10 so tightly that it serves, in a way, as a type of gateway monument into the city of New Orleans, were filled with dozens of people from all over the country…”

      • December 29, 2014 at 11:17 pm

good point…but they will try none the less…Ryan Grim …in his tweet said…that it was hard to look Medusa in the face…

      • December 29, 2014 at 11:24 pm

Louisiana Democratic Rep. Cedric Richmond defended colleague Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) in the midst of reports that Scalise spoke at a white supremacist convention in 2002.

“I don’t think Steve Scalise has a racist bone in his body,” Richmond, who is black, told the New Orleans Times Picayune.

“Steve and I have worked on issues that benefit poor people, black people, white people, Jewish people. I know his character.”

      December 29, 2014 at 11:34 pm

It’s apparent that the white GOP base in Louisiana is chock-full of KKK, but they’re also crooks.

This was linked to on the previous thread, but what’s amazing to me is why there was a special election to fill a vacant seat in Louisiana in 1999:
“Livingston was poised to succeed former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), but he announced his plans to resign shortly before the House’s Dec. 19, 1998, impeachment vote. Days earlier, Livingston had acknowledged several extramarital affairs during his tenure in the House…”

This is why @RollCall interviewed David Vittner and Steve Scalise were pitted against David Duke back then.

    Uh-oh.

The Presidential aspirations of that darling of Libertarians fed up with RWNJs has hit a hitch in the getalong from the get-go.

“Jim Webb (D), who launched a 2016 presidential exploratory committee last month, paid nearly $100,000 to his wife and daughter through his ‘Born Fighting PAC’, according to Business Insider.”
