Nerdy, it’s when I’m out for the day I appreciate your tweets even more, such a brilliant round-up of what’s happening. Thank you. I’ve so much catching up to do on the Antonio Martin case, but I’m nearly afraid to check. How many more?

    • 13 Nerdy Wonka
      December 24, 2014 at 8:15 pm

      Thanks, Chips.

Like you, I also voiced aloud, “How many more?” “Not again!” “Not another life lost!”

What broke my heart is that from reports trickling out, he might’ve been alive after he was shot but an ambulance wasn’t called.

Also, the cop’s dash camera and body camera weren’t activated. Some reports have said that if it wasn’t a routine traffic stop then his dash cam wasn’t required to be activated. But his body cam was definitely meant to be activated and it was not. The video footage that was released is weird. There are cameras all over the location and the cops picked that blurry footage?

His mother was present at the scene and witnesses say she was crying and begging for them to let her go to her son and the cops ignored her. Her son’s body lay on the ground for 2hours+ and a mother was forced to see that injustice.

Our hearts are broken over and over again.

      • December 24, 2014 at 8:18 pm

Oh my God, they stopped his mother from being with him when he was possibly still alive but dying?

This is just too much, too ****ing much.

      • December 24, 2014 at 8:26 pm

The fact that the Police don’t call for medical help is truly a slap in the face. And to have his mother witness it? It doesn’t get more inhumane than that.

        December 24, 2014 at 8:52 pm

Before you condem that cop and the blurry cameras and get on the media bandwagon, I urge you to read my post on the previous thread…..
What is known for sure is that the victim had a gun….full stop. This aurtomatically puts this on another level. As for the dash cameras, They are wired to the MARS lights on the roof and is not activated unless it’s a traffic stop. It can be operated manually however but you have to be in the squad to do it………The body cam situation is problematic and is being investigated……..As for other allegations, they are just that.
This was reported to me by my nephew who is a police officer in that town…….In a few words, the acted stupid and paid for it with his life!

        • December 24, 2014 at 8:54 pm

But Yardarm (and I’m way behind on this), is there proof he had a gun? I can’t make it out from that video in the post.

          • 18 yardarm756
            December 24, 2014 at 8:57 pm

There is undeniable proof. He had a automatic handgun with one round chambered and 5 more in the magazine!

            • December 24, 2014 at 9:06 pm

I’m just asking: where is the undeniable proof? Is there a clearer video available? Is it just the police making this claim? Because nothing they say can be trusted. If there is proof he pointed a gun at close range at the cop, then yes, it was a death wish, but is there clear evidence to show this?

          • 22 yardarm756
            December 24, 2014 at 9:05 pm

I am most anxious to see how the MSM and others parse this incident. I wonder what kind of “frenzy” can be whipped up on misinformation.

          December 24, 2014 at 9:26 pm

sorry but there isn’t any evidence proving that this cop didn’t plant the gun. As a matter of fact one thing that I find interesting is the cops camera wasn’t on neither was the car one working. In fact I call bullshit in the entire cop testimony.

        • 26 Nerdy Wonka
          December 24, 2014 at 11:45 pm

I didn’t condemn the cop. I asked questions.

If you had read my comment, you would have noted that I acknowledged that there are several reports that justify why the cop didn’t have his dash cam on. But it doesn’t justify why the cop didn’t have his body cam on. I also questioned why a clearer video wasn’t released since there are cameras all over the location where the tragic incident occurred. That is not condemning a cop. That is asking common sense questions any sensible human being would do.

I didn’t condemn the cop. I asked why a mother had to watch her son’s body lay dead on the ground for 2hrs+ while no ambulance arrived at the scene. That is horrific.

Good Christmas Eve Evening Family! I hope everyone’s having/had a lovely day. After braving the insane traffic and crowds to finish up Christmas shopping and getting last minute groceries, I’m settling in for a quiet evening of baking and gift wrapping. Man, am I grateful for the calm. Ten family members will descend on my place for dinner tomorrow. [What was I thinking when I agreed to host?] It’ll be fun, but certainly exhausting. Guess I’ll rest next year! 😀

  34. December 24, 2014 at 9:46 pm

    Merry early Christmas everybody.

I know it may not be the coolest thing nowadays, but it’s become a Christmas tradition of mine since after Katrina to watch It’s A Wonderful Life. Started it in DFW when I was all alone for Christmas.

It’s not Christmas until I watch ole George and Mary, lil Susie and ole guardian angel Clarence.

Really though, it because I remember when I was younger I just couldn’t wait to get away from my family, my crappy job and from what I considered my sad life in NOLA, I truly felt like I was somehow being held back by family, life, obligations, etc. In fact, right before Katrina, I had actually gone to. Houston for a job interview but the money wasn’t what I considered enough to move away from hime with no support.

Well, not 2 months later Katrina hit, and had no choice but to leave NOLA. I got my wish, I left NOLA, and eventually my family ALL moved back to NOLA, so I got my wish to get away from my extended family. I enjoyed my life in DFW, but I can honestly say I was truly homesick for all 7 of those years there and especially during Christmas and New Year’s.

So leaving aside the attempted suicide, the whole social contract plot line, and even the romance, it just always hit close to home the idea that sometimes getting what you wanted may not actually be what you need.

It took me almost 10 years to get back to NOLA and now I can’t see myself leaving anytime soon. Now I satisfy the melancholy with a visit to my cousin, or talking with my mother, or just looking at whatever new pic I have of/with Maddie.

So in a way, I guess I had my own little bit of my own kinda of “what if I left this old town”, type of revelation.

So fuq yeah, I love It’s A Wonderful Life…so shoot me.

Not cool? Well my family sure didn’t get that memo! It’s practically required watching for us EVERY Christmas, lamh. We watch multiple times throughout the season; expect I’ll be seeing it again tomorrow night. So many lessons in this one. I like your example. For me, the lesson that resonates the most is about how we touch so many people’s lives in ways we don’t even realize. There’s something there for everyone in this movie. That’s while it’ll never go out of style.

    • December 24, 2014 at 10:01 pm

This scene from earlier in the episode shows the audience why Mrs. Landingham decides to go with Toby to the honor guard service at Arlington above.

    • December 24, 2014 at 9:57 pm

        December 24, 2014 at 10:05 pm

Choking up, standing up and cheering or falling over in rapturous laughter. The show had it all. None can compare.

        • December 24, 2014 at 10:11 pm

There was an honor of intention in every scene, each and every time. The production was top notch and I never will forget all the internal squabbling and love of service in the end. Incredible acting and direction.

        • December 24, 2014 at 11:47 pm

“If we start doing special favors like this every veteran will come out of the woodwork”…….”I hope so”. No truer words were spoken as to how our elected officials seem to feel when it comes to helping veterans. With the exception of PBO and VP Biden, Democrats and a few Republicans. But that is how many Americans and GOP like McCain feel. They can’t help all veterans because some are Black, Hispanic, Asian, etc. the same with unemployment and welfare. This clip made me cry because so many of the veterans and service men and women who served multiple tours to Iraq and Afghanistan are winding up homeless and committing suicide.

yardarm, understand.I appreciated your reports earlier. Just like there is a tendency on some to assume any black male shot by the police is a thug who deserved it, there is a tendency on the part of others to assume there is never a justifiable shooting by a policeman of a black male.

The fact is, both sides are wrong, and based on things I read elsewhere and what you said, this sounds like it is probably a justifiable shooting by a policeman who is known not to be rash and impulsive in his actions. Unfortunately, there are those on both sides that will never be convinced they may be wrong no matter what evidence is provided.

It might be a justifiable shooting, Japa but those asking questions are not wrong. It is foolish to accept hook, line, and sinker all initial reports without questioning them; especially in light of recent events.

There could be a justifiable reason why the cop’s dash cam was not on. That can be acceptable. But why was the cop’s body cam not on? Why not release a clearer video footage of the incident so that it clears up confusion? Why does a mother have to watch her son’s dying body lay on the ground for 2hrs+ with no ambulance being called to the scene?

If that was your child, would you be ok with pat explanations? Would you be ok with crying for help for your child’s dying body and being ignored? Would you be ok with no ambulance arriving on the scene for hours? Would you be ok with no one asking any questions where a death has occurred, justifiable or otherwise?

Those asking questions are not wrong. That is what a common sense society does.

        • December 25, 2014 at 4:23 am

I went to 11PM (Episcopalian) Mass. Lovely service, beautiful music, short and touching sermon. A very full and satisfying liturgy. It was a reminder that in the midst of the world’s darkness the Light is born and comes forth from within us. We need to not get discouraged but keep on “sharin’ the Light.” That what we do on this forum. Thank you all for “sharin’ your Light with me.” Like that little hymn, “this little Light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine..” Christmas blessings to all and good night.
