I hope some of you had the opportunity to dip in to the “Strange Fruit: Seven Last Words of Seven Black Lives” program that I posted on the last thread. It was POWERFUL! It was organized by POWER (Philadelphians Organized to Witness, Empower, & Rebuild) http://www.powerphiladelphia.org/ The organization has been actively involved in supporting PHL airport baggage handlers, fair funding for schools, immigration and a host of other issues.

I’m with you meta and kasai. I don’t know why POTUS decided to be big elf and tag along with FLOTUS but I’m glad he did. It was nice. FLOTUS usually go to the hospital and take Sunny and Bo with her to read to the children and take afew questions, maybe POTUS will go along there too.

Reminds me that I got a letter recently from the PO that coming soon I (well my neighbourhood really) will no longer be getting direct home delivery. Now they’ll be installing a communal mailbox nearby and I’ll have to walk (horror of horrors) to the box to check it for mail. Ticks me off! Of course it’s due to loss of $$$.
They floated that idea around here for a hot minute and it quickly and quietly went to “file 13” 😀
I’m not surprised it finally caught up with me, since all newer homes have been on that system for years and years and years now – even before I moved here as a matter of fact. I escaped it to date because I am in an older area, but I guess falling income has caused them to bring everyone onto this system. All that will happen in my case is that my snail mail (which is primarily bills) will get treated like my email. I’ll check it on the rare occasion when I remember its existence. 😀

we’ve had the communal mail boxes for at least 25 years; they work very well.
Probably as long as they have been phasing them in in my surrounding area. However, they started out doing ONLY new subdivisions (you wouldn’t believe how many have gone up in the last 15 years), leaving door-to-door delivery for those people who already had it. Most homes are used to it because that’s all they’ve had since buying a home; me, I don’t like going ‘forward’ in this instance. I can see me simply forgetting about mail all together, CBarb. Heck, I rarely ever open the ones delivered to my door, so why go *pick* them up off site! 😉

VC, I use Paintbrush for Mac for the writing-on-pics things, if you use a PC there should be a similar program that’s just as easy!
I use Paint, and have no problems with that part. Once I write on it and save it however, I can’t seem to copy it for posting directly. Yet, it’s simplicity itself to get it on twitter. I figure there’s a simple step I haven’t twigged to.

Speaking as a BT, I don’t think you can take a picture on your computer and just paste it in here. It needs to be on a web link. So you need to upload it to one of those handy dandy free photo hosting sites, then past the link in here.
O, they’ve recently changed the procedure, I think Lib_L, so we’ve been getting away with directly posting stuff with a jpeg/gif etc ending. The problem for me now is that once I scribble on it, I don’t yet know how to post it directly.
Hrmmm…. You shouldn’t be able to post directly from your computer, as the image is only on your computer and thus not shareable. BUT, if you upload your picture to a photo hosting site and paste that link, then it should work easy peasy.

Cartoon ran in the Bucks County Courier Times. Bucks County is predominately white (85 – 90%; too lazy to lookup…); I’d estimate that the Black population is less than 5%. Needless to say, folks are mad; how dare the paper run a political cartoon that reflects current events…

one letter to the editor describes the killing of Mike Brown and Eric Garner as police making mistakes and using poor judgement….
this is my response…
Those mistakes and poor judgments led to the deaths of unarmed blk boys and continue to do so…instead of railing at the newspapers and wishing ill on them…The police should be join with citizens that they have promised to serve and protect to ensure that no more unarmed blk boys lose their life due to “mistakes and poor judgement”

This is not about crime in perspective communities…there is crime in every community…(no one ever talks about white on white crime)…what this is about is racial profiling…racial harassment…the killing of unarmed blk boys and young men…and the un-accountability of police officers…it would seem to me that the police would be first in line wanting police officers to be held accountable for what Kim Deforest called “mistakes and poor judgement”….
