1:45 ET: The President and the First Lady deliver toys and gifts donated by Executive Office of The President staff to the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots Campaign, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling
I’m so jaded this last little while that my first thought when the teenager touched the elderly lady’s bags was that I could just see her putting up a screech and a black or brown kid being injured as a result. I would not be encouraging any of my young relatives to try that – which is really a pity.
Instagram announced Wednesday that it has surpassed 300 million active users — and in doing so, it has also surpassed Twitter, whose active user count stands at 284 million.
Lord Jesus this siw hy I love my President and First Lady so hard. they are truly the people’s President and First Lady. They truly exemplify serving the people in every sense of the word. It just brings tears to my eyes. I love them so.
I really don’t get this Stupidity. It is Crude, Wicked and Wrong in so many levels……when de Blasio has nothing to do with it.
Despicable form of Yellow Journalism.
Vanity Fair references a "Bill de Blasio sex tape" on latest cover. http://t.co/0xfem3Lyy7
Yes! Just heard commercial for Saturday’s march in DC. Rev Al’s doing it right; 10:30 rally at Freedom Plaza, then noon march to the Capitol! Finally, someone focused on the do nothing congress!
Realize that, however, this rally, called on less than two weeks notice, is capitalizing on the current momentum. Hopefully, the call to action will include asking folks to contact, picket, protest at their congresscritter’s local office.

“Hope is not only audacious, it is substantial. Hope is what allows us to deal with problems creatively. In order to deal with fear, we have to mobilize hope. Hope is one of the most precious gifts we can give each other and the people we work with to make change.”
It’s not unusual for my local newspaper to print ugly letters to the editor. I could post a link to twitter but no one without a subscription could read the letter. I only read the letters-to-the-editor occasionally. Anyone who does disagree with these idjits will be scathed in letters back. So much so people with opposing views rarely write. However I couldn’t let this letter go by without my opinion. I just hope it made a difference. As a Wyoming White Woman I’m not sure what I should say outside my community. The letter I’m talking about is just another “Blame the Victom” letter.
Oops, I did not mean to post that yet, I was proof-reading. Yes me, trying not to make spelling or grammatical errors because it’s been so long since I’ve typed more than 140 characters or just a photo.
Victim was the word I was trying to correct. 😦
Enough, here is what I wrote in the comments. . .
‘Why should we consider the crimes of the victim? Courts do not allow past crimes to be brought in front of the Court when someone is prosecuted. None of the crimes you mentioned deserve the death penalty.
Who made you or the police officer “Judge, Jury & Executioner”?’
Bravo Carol, thanks for giving a sensible rebuttal..I hope they print it. Just imagine if any if us who committed small petty crimes as youth were killed on the spot or jailed for years and ruining our lives while rich kids go free due to affluenza.
Yay CM, thank you for responding to your local newspaper.
Agree with jojo that we as society turn a blind eye to “affluenza” defense.
There’s so many people in Texas (I think that’s where the affluenza case was — where the 16-year-old driver ran over 4 people (2 who had engine problems, 2 good Samaritans) and all he gets in in-patient care at a Malibu rehab center overlooking the Pacific Ocean). If anyone needs a lesson in life it’s a person like him.
It heartens me to see the price of oil plunge — I hope it takes down these people with far too much money from oil in Texas — last month there were lots of articles about the costliest divorce settlement in the US, where the wife wants more money because millions a month isn’t enough for her. Just makes me sick to think about what awful people these are.
I read similar responses on multiple posts on several sites but personally I am in the “who gives a shit” bracket.
It happened, folks knew what was going on and the repubs, some dems and the media continued to enable it. After cleaning up that mess the first few years he was in office in additional to all other crises….POTUS has enough to do at this point.
I get additionally perturbed because those complaining probably did not vote in November. So they can miss me with this latest outrage.
POTUS has it right. Acknowledge what we did wrong publicly and work to make sure it never happens again. Move forward.
I didn’t want teabagger Cory Gardner to win, but Udall distancing himself from our President was ridiculous and did not appeal to those who live in Colorado for the Rocky Mountain high.
…The average national price of gasoline fell to $2.66 a gallon on Tuesday according to AAA, 61 cents less than last year at this time. The national average has fallen every day since September 26.
Costco has the potential to win twice with fuel prices declining, first because it pays less to buy gasoline for its fuel pumps, and second because when those savings are passed on to customers, they may spend more freely once they get into the store. …
I went to Costco recently and walked out with only two items. I wish I had a bigger family to purchase a cart full of stuff. I think this year people will spend a lot more due to low gas prices. Thanks President Obama!
Nancy Pelosi’s office has sent out 3 e-mails in the last hour coming out against the funding bill because of the roll back of banning credit default swaps for banks.
Maybe there are not enough votes for Boehner to get this passed now.
Okay, since this is the ‘delivery’ post, I’m delivering Pamela’s birthday song and cake now so that it will be here when she drops in again.
“Happy Birthday, ole gurl!”
Since it’s your birthday I won’t say that too much partying might not be good for a woman of your years. What’s it anyways, 25? 29? 30 maybe? I suspect you may be older that Chips, but there’s a vast space between 23 and 30.
Missed the event, but glad to see that PBO had the chance to cuddle babies — I think he’s missed that — think it really recharges his batteries when he has a tangible reminder of why the progressive fight is so important.
my hope is someone sends Deray a private message regarding erring on the side of not making this about him and to focus on the larger issue….equality for people of color and to stop police brutality.
Given the history of this country, we need all hands (and organizations) on deck to help bend the arc towards justice.
I get his young viewpoint in several ways, and good for him, but I also get the reasoning for the March on Washington. And, yes, some of it is PR … there’s good PR to be had, too, which I’m hoping he doesn’t forget – including reminding people where we were in 1963 and during other marches, and where we still are in 2014. Different ways to attract and affect the national psyche, old and new.
@deray Please consider as an "all hands on deck" adjunct event, historic for older activists who were at or supported Dr. King's March.
Wolf Blitzer will be interviewing himself at 5 PM in The Situation Room to explain his stupid interview with Senator Feinstein yesterday. Also at the table will be Torture apologists John Rizzo, Peter King and the entire Fox News lineup.
This has had me fuming all day. These entitles jackasses have been nothing but disrespectful of PBO since day one. On his next trip overseas, I hope he ignores all of them.
So that's what happened when Obama cussed out the White House Press Corp. And it really did happen. http://t.co/HlnoFfv2zO
If she and the others did their jobs (objective, impartial reporting of what PBO says and does and their impact on the lives of people here and abroad), PBO would not need to go around them so much. He is getting it done without kissing up to them and having the nerve to be successful, respected and well-loved despite all that she and the other Beltway media hacks have done to try to destroy him. She and those like her need to stfu and learn how to do their jobs. PBO brushes them off and swats them like he did that fly. He does not beg them, nor asks for their permission, and is not interested in their false friendship. He is a grown-ass man in charge of his own damn self. I am so tired of mofos like her. PBO is a man for the ages and she and the other arrogant, GOP water carrying traitors will be relegated to the dust bin of history. Furthermore, grown men curse (remember BFD Biden); she needs to get over herself. I hope he did curse the mofos out, they deserve this and more for their dereliction of duty.
Snark (but I failed to hit the mark!) – a lurker complained about those of us who might use profanity on TOD and how that doesn’t represent Pres. Obama, when he’s riled. If he used it, I was suggesting he also might cuss a little at “adversaries.” Sorry for the dumb joke on my part!
I couldn’t find that pompous idiot’s twitter address earlier. If her ‘reap what you sow’ adage applied in PBO’s case he wouldn’t have had to deal with the likes of her; he’d have ‘reaped’ good journalists. These has-beens can’t wait to retire/leave their jobs to ‘reveal’ whatever scoop they think they have. She ought to be grateful that he was decent enough to tell them what he thought of them ‘off the record’. It simply annoys me that each one is rushing madly to get his/her bit of glory against this man/admin. Was she hyping her book too or is that to come later?
IMO, @EmoNegro1, Compton flat out lies with 'We cover what we are allowed to cover'. Repeatedly asking same dumb GOP questions ≠ coverage.
Every time I hear the name Ann Compton it reminds me of her deep and probing questioning about “bedroom slippers”. I never heard her ask a relevant question about anything. The woman is an embarrassment.
I am thankful for Ms. Ann Compton leaving us the hell alone. And for so many grateful thoughts of knowing that she will Not be sitting in a seat with her disrespect for the most gracious, gentleman essence of the greatest president ever, and the witch knows it. That is why she is sitting there bad mouthing PBO. She has never and never will be a person that I will ever had respect for when it comes to her manners toward PBO. Goodbye, Ann Compton. And to think that the President was such a gentleman to recognize her in the WHPC room congratulating her on her retirement. He really did not have to do that. Tired of these old crumble up talking heads disrespecting POB.
Yes, HZ, I was thinking about how PBO so graciously recognized her retirement when viewing her unbridled contempt. She is crass like the rest of them. ADIOS, Ann.
Good Afternoon, TODers!!!
Gooooooooood afternoon swbluega!
GA swbluega….Congrats on #1!

I guess Mark Udall is lashing out at the president over the torture reports. He’s accusing him of engaging in a coverup. What an asshole this man is,
He is upset about the 28 pages of complete redactions, I think.
I know that, I’m upset but I don’t try to accuse the president of hiding it.
I read similar responses on multiple posts on several sites but personally I am in the “who gives a shit” bracket.

Hi, Arapaho! Yes, it recharges PBO’s batteries to look into the eyes of innocence, truth and possibilities.
Oh forgot to mention that our county has twice as many cases of Gonorrhea than we did last year. . .
Too much chasing in the prairies huh? My Lord, what is going on up there? I thought the capital was FL in the Senior Villages. LOL

say it again prettyfoot58
I get his young viewpoint in several ways, and good for him, but I also get the reasoning for the March on Washington. Compton and the whole lot of ’em are an embarrassment.
I saw that show….she is also upset that PBO goes around them by issuing West Wing Week. She also hates that he has his own videographer.
Basically…he is uppity.
Old school, worthless, entitled journalists who need to retire. Adios, Ann.
In the “uppity” catagory, isn’t she the one, who in his very first press conference, asked how if “feels” to be the “black President’?
Remember when GWB and Cheney cursed and it was caught on an open mike?
That too, she called him “Obama”
Maybe Chips’ lurker should reconsider her stand on how some of us “talk” on TOD.
/snark/ #YouGottaLaugh … to keep from screaming, sometimes.
I don’t understand. I must have missed something!
Oh, I see!! Hee hee.
Thanks for standing up to her nonsense, vc.
They disgust me, Meta, because they speak so piously anyone not knowing the truth could easily believe they are making credible arguments.
Hey, the whpc should hear the level of energetic profanity towards them around here!! They do not deserve to walk in the door of the WH.
ANN COMPTON AND BEDROOM SLIPPERS GATE
Every time I hear the name Ann Compton it reminds me of her deep and probing questioning about “bedroom slippers”. I never heard her ask a relevant question about anything. The woman is an embarrassment.
those bedroom slippers……

ADIOS, Ann.
