I’m so behind the times I thought the team was the NJ Nets.

Is this game being played at Barclays Center? — (Never heard of Barclays Center before either.)

Not snark, but wonder how the N’easter will affect east coast protests — heard a big storm with lots of wind is headed that way.

And the weather in CA will become stormy in a couple of days too.

    • December 8, 2014 at 10:12 pm

      Hey arapaho.

I do recall El Nino years being not as cold. But, then again, I focus on the blessed waves of rain.

And now, good people, allow me to enjoy a cocktail as I await the delivery of my yummy Persian food.

    • December 8, 2014 at 10:51 pm

The bulk of bad weather will be tomorrow morning and midday – during working hours. By tomorrow evening the rains will have cleared for the most part. It will be windy though.

I suspect that some protests will actually be even more energized by the stormy weather….

I’m not even going to apologize if this has already been shared today – I was at work, so haven’t a clue. (O, and I’m at work again tomorrow.)

I can think and feel at the same time

Charles Blow says what a lot of us are starting to think about.

‘This is why the people are in the streets. There are too many nagging questions, not enough satisfying answers. The people want their pain and anger registered.

But in a way, this is the part that can drive longtime activists to distraction: that this kind of people power doesn’t neatly translate into political power. Why not follow the recent examples of activists for gay rights and immigrant rights, who pressured politicians and worked through the political and judicial systems to achieve specific policy objectives?

But maybe in this moment the exhaling of pain must come before the shaping of policy.’

Basically what he’s talking about is that people are expressing their feelings about what is going on, but we haven’t seen much strategizing (i.e., thinking) about how to change things. I’d like to offer some of my thoughts about why that is and what we can do about it.

I have started to play around with some of the suggestions that have been made re ‘next steps’ in the police injustice protest. Right now (work intervened) I’m toying with the idea of numbering the suggestions made and putting them into circulation. Only the first one has been done so I’m sending it out in a trial run. I have about 2 or 3 others in mind – independent investigation of police serious, fatal shooting, lobby politicians for better recruitment criteria for cops, and Truth and Recon – which I was thinking of doing in the same format. Step right up with your criticisms/suggestions for improvement as I’ll have time in 2nd half of the week to fine tune etc.

Actually, Bfr, that’s one thing I don’t like about twitter. Sometimes I’ve done a good tweet and wanted to retweet it a day or two later and can’t. Bugs me!

Chips did once point out that you can un-tweet a retweet of someone else’s tweet then retweet it later.

😀 On that very coherent note I’ll say ‘au revoir’ as I need to try and get some sleep since I’m working tomorrow.

Good Night all, and Sweet Dreams!

A very good question from bwd. Ordinary white folks are joining the protests. Where are the folks from the world of sports, art movies and other such high profile areas. Of course, the media is a gone case.

Per a segment on CNN last night on Out Front, Simmons said that on Wednesday, there will be a list of advocates and people from the Hollywood Industry would sign their names to a list of demands……..for this Movement. He named Miley S……Brad Pitt……etc.
None was from the sports world.

I agree with BWD on that one. The silence from these Sports Figure who are Caucasians are Deafening……though, Not Historically surprising.

Elsewhere in the world, our fantastic Ambassador to Ukraine, Geoff Pyatt leaves no doubt about the issues and America’s position …

“The US Ambassador to Kiev, Geoffrey Pyatt, stressed today the need for Ukraine to reform, and to avoid the trap of fighting Russian disinformation with opposing propaganda. RFE/RL reports:

“I think it’s important not to go down the rabbit hole, not to fall into the trap of trying to meet Russia on their ground in terms of misrepresentation or propaganda. But the best answer to that propaganda is the truth: a consistent presentation of Ukrainian government reality and Ukrainian government intentions, including Ukrainian government intentions regarding Eastern Ukraine and the imperative of national unity.”

“The greatest single risk factor facing Ukraine today is business as usual. And the good news is that both the president, President [Petro] Poroshenko, and Prime Minister [Arseniy] Yatsenyuk are fully aware of that imperative.””

    Hello TOD family!
    Hi ya, Ms, Chips!

It has been a long while since I have really been able to post. My heart is so heavy.
    I have just been lurking.
Too cold to walk early in the morning so I have been in a serious funk. If it was not for you guys here I think that I would not have gotten out of bed some mornings. But I must thank you kind brave souls for keeping me grounded.
My elected official has ordered buses to leave for D.C. early Sat. morning 5:30 AM
I marched as a young teenager for equal rights in Ga. years ago. I never thought I would be doing this again.
I have sons, grandsons, nephews, cousins that could become a victim.

“I want my children to be seen as the individuals that they are, and I want them to be judged by the content of their character,” Obama said. “I want my grandsons to be treated like anybody else’s grandsons.”

Powerful words from a great president.

Australia worst performer on climate change.

Australia was the worst performing industrial country in terms of climate change in 2014, a new report has said.

The report by two non-government organisations said the poor ranking was due in part to policy changes made by the current coalition government.

The Climate Change Performance Index ranks emissions and climate policies of the 58 highest CO2 emitters worldwide.

It ranked Denmark as the best performing nation, followed by Sweden and the UK.

Saudi Arabia ranked last on the index.
