I wonder if @3chicpolitico realizes the irony of this tweet.

Was probably Buffalo Springfield’s biggest fan back in the day, followed all the band members after the group broke up (huge fan of Richie Furay — even on the cover of Poco’s live concert (my friend and I were in 2nd row) album — though I think he may be a RWNJ now)…

“For What It’s Worth” was about San Fernando Valley (elite white) 16-year-olds who caused a ruckus on the Sunset Strip because of the curfew — couldn’t get into Whisky-A-Go-Go, poor dears.

Gee arapaho, you are a wealth of information. Thanks for sharing that tidbit about the background of the song.

The Sunset Strip “riots” got a lot of local attention back then — I was in San Diego and it got a lot of TV coverage, and I think Steve Sills and the rest of Buffalo Springfield were right in the middle of things, living in the West Hollywood area.

It’s ironic because the Sunset Strip “riots” happened a year after the 1965 Watts riots, which Buffalo Springfield didn’t write a song about (IIRC).

that is very interesting – I did not know that. you always hear this song in conjunction with vietnam unrest movies. (think tom cruise in 4th of july)

Never saw that movie, was so anti-Vietnam War that I believe that I have seen exactly zero movies about that awful conflict.

I do see tweets every now and then referencing this song, as if it had deep meaning, but the song says the signs “mostly say hooray for our side.”

I am not trying to sound any alarm bells or be a Debbie Downer, but POTUS’ diagnoses of acid reflux, hence the sore throat, can be something more serious. The great former Governor of Texas, Ann Richards, suffered from horrible reflux before being diagnosed with esophageal cancer and was a former smoker as well. I just hope this diagnoses is where it stops. But acid reflux can be serious. Just FYI…….

    • December 7, 2014 at 12:49 pm

I thought about that as well but hopefully his having given up smoking when he did allowed his system to be restored. I was a 30 year smoker, towards the end a pack a day. I stopped 14 years ago, and have no damage thus far except for a touch of bronchitis now and then. Still, something to keep in mind, and of course I just prayed for PBO, and will always do so.

    • December 7, 2014 at 1:03 pm

Yes, it can be more serious LB4Obama – which is why a CT scan was ordered. A cancerous (or other abnormal) mass would likely show up on the scan – and a biopsy would be taken. But the CT scan ruled out cancer – and was assessed to be normal.

Let’s not start imagining the worst if the evidence doesn’t suggest it. I think that’s why a Dr’s report was released to the public – because this is exactly the type of speculation they wanted to prevent. It is likely that Ann Richards’ cancer showed via a CT scan when the reflux wasn’t going away with “normal” treatments. Richards was also a recovering alcoholic – who admitted to heavy drinking and smoking in her earlier years.

Anyway, I’m sure PBO’s doctors will monitor his response to treatment and take the necessary precautions if the reflux doesn’t go away as expected.

    • December 7, 2014 at 1:43 pm

Thank God the CT scan was ok. ANd yes, acid reflux can cause cancer in the long term.

It is STRESS. Stress causes more acidity. President Obama still has two difficult years ahead. Difficult to avoid stress. Impossible in fact. So I hope he’s going to be very well cared of by his doctors and will take anti-acid medication.

I don’t like thinking about the time where Barack Obama won’t be president any more. But on the other hand, I can’t wait for the time where he will finally be able to relax.

So, odd thing happened. My modem decided to reset itself to factory standards. My wifi networks (both 2.4 and 5g) went poof. Had to go in and reset everything. I think I have a gremlin.

YVW, Gx2. My following @Interior is kind of funny to me, since I am not at all an outdoorsy person, and have never been, or am at all likely to go, to any of the places they feature. I do like Sec. Jewell’s commitment to her job though. She seems to have done an awful lot since taking on the role and, if nothing else, she has brought the position to life – I was never aware of or interested in them before! Sec Jewell reminds me of SoS Kerry in her dedication to her job.

      Thanks VC!

One of the best Interior Dept videos yet — probably had more footage of PBO than most, LOL.

The energy credits (over $1bn to Native American tribes) was also fascinating.
