A very lovely pal of TOD on Twitter has asked us to consider sharing some love with this amazing project.

You can read about it here:

East Bay Express: The Town Kitchen: Food Delivery for a Cause

In the Bay Area’s tech-driven, convenience-oriented, “Uberized” economy, food delivery services that shuttle gourmet meals to your doorstep at the click of a button are a dime a dozen. But Sabrina Mutukisna’s new food delivery business, The Town Kitchen, is almost certainly the only one that is operated almost entirely by low-income Oakland youth — from cooking and packaging to  distribution and delivery. Not only does she eventually plan to offer steady employment to 43 Oakland youth between the ages of 15 and 24, Mutukisna said she also wants to offer employees the chance to receive college credit for participating in The Town Kitchen training program, which will equip them with skills for whatever career path they choose to pursue.

G’morning Chips, TOD, lurkers, everyone, and congrats to Nerdy for #1, and amk on “uber furst!” Happy Saturday everyone, and thanks Chips for this excellent Saturday R & S roundup.

Is the Kennedy Center Honors event tomorrow afternoon?

A man was invited for dinner at a friend’s house. Every time the host needed something, he preceded his request to his wife by calling her “My Love”, “Darling”, “Sweetheart”, (petal) etc.

His friend looked at him and said, “That’s really nice after all of these years you’ve been married to keep saying those little pet names.”

The host said, “Well, honestly, I’ve forgotten her name.”

Excuse me if this has been posted before… http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/05/opinion/we-must-stop-police-abuse-of-black-men.html?_r=0

Hours after coming out of the police academy, I was told something as a new rookie officer: You’d rather be tried by 12 jurors than carried by six pallbearers. In my impressionable first days, I saw officers leave the precinct every day touching the lockers of their fallen brothers. They started their shift on the defensive, thinking about protecting themselves, as opposed to the communities they served, regardless of the complexion of those communities. One of my white fellow officers once told me that if he saw a white individual with a gun, he took extra care for himself and the individual. When he saw a black individual with a gun, he took care only for himself.

These are the lessons to which I was exposed, and the reality of what policing communities of color has been, not just in New York City but across America. There is a legacy of inequity that did not just appear overnight, but was carved into the culture of law enforcement over decades.

Written by a retired police captain.

Good morning all of TODville! I have to update you on what the Montana Tea Party Republican leadership is now mandating. I feel like I am back in high school. They are telling women what to wear and how to comport themselves while legislature is in session and you are on the floor.
These people have gone stark raving mad.

    Good morning everyone,
What a traumatic past few weeks; the midterms seem like forever ago. I read many of her tweets in the past few weeks but this is an excellent compilation if you get a few minutes to check it out.

This is a horrendous killing from last night in LA on Hollywood Blvd. Why do the police shoot to kill? AND, why do they stand around and wait for EMTs to arrive – aren’t they trained for medical emergencies – like one of their shooting and wounding someone? They no longer see themselves as protectors and public servants but organized militia.

It makes me physically ill to watch the video. (It’s on Facebook so you need to log in and search under Jordan White who was a passerby when it happened. However, its after the shooting.) On the video there are at least 10 cops all standing around FOREVER and not aiding the guy. Many of the early reports said he was transported to the hospital in critical condition and died later. BTW, the guy with the Swiss Army knife was white but it makes no difference. Like @propanejane described in her tweets (in the storify above), too many of them are cowards and bullies with lethal weapons which our courts allow them to use indiscriminately provided they state they were “fearful”.

New Jersey lawmakers have found no evidence linking Governor Chris Christie to politically-motivated lane closures on a busy bridge to New York.

Mr Christie, a front-runner for the 2016 Republican presidential ticket, has long maintained his own innocence.

So the fools who were fired did what Christie wanted – but Christie put nothing in writing – that will make for an interesting Presidency – nothing in writing – ever.

The one saving grace for the US is a democrat in the white house – when that goes – the country has completely lost all sanity.

Good morning TODers. So good to be able to come here and read the news. Just two comments:

    1. HRC’s statement on the “no Iran Deal…..” illustrates why she accomplished no deals at all during her tenure. She spent four years treading water. It was up to SOS Kerry to get diplomacy accomplished. I guess she spent her four years trying to rebuild from the GWB era, but she was not engaged in genuine diplomacy for any goal.
    2. Police departments need to rid themselves of thugs. They may not realize it, but by their actions nationwide, and the attitudes these demonstrate, they are making people totally distrust them…..and I mean ole white ladies like me who were brought up to respect them. I’ve basically lost most of my respect for them. They are deeply harming themselves. This may not show right now, but these attitudes will come to the fore in time. I look at every one now with distrust, even in my own little community.

Yes, and it got through the Senate with John Kerry’s help as chair of the Foreign Relations Committee. And of course, PBO gave her credit…so now, she stabs him…….as you can tell, I do not like her, I do not trust her.

for hopefruit: Chuck Toad’s book is a lofty 2.1 stars on Amazon with 48 reviews. 🙂

My favorite excerpt from one of the mocking 5 stars: “Chuck Todd has given the public a book that is both weighty & insubstantial at the same time. In 528 pages and over 3 lbs of detailed and often inarticulate anecdotes, Todd accomplishes this with plodding success. In short, like a bag of potato chips, filled with air and not many chips. While rambling at times, it’s not without its charm. He permits the reader to indulge in mental walkabouts in those moments when you lose interest in the page.”

Chip dear, THANK YOU so very much for writing about The Town Kitchen on Rise & Shine today! One of the founders, Sabrina, is my daughter’s friend. Sabrina’s personal story is quite lovely too… she’s had a lot of struggles in her life, but graduated from Univ of Berkeley. She’s not forgotten her roots and has dedicated to her life to helping the community where she grew up and now lives in. She was HuffPo’s person of the day for her work with at risk youth (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/27/sabrina-mutukisna-at-risk-youth_n_911560.html). And with The Town Kitchen, she’s trying to realize her dream of combining her love of food and her desire to help at risk youth. It’s not a 501-c-3, but a social enterprise, which means that it’s profits will be reinvested into its programming.

She would be so grateful for your help in reaching her funding goals. Thank you to each and every one of you!

      MMEDIATE RELEASE

      Release No: NR-608-14
      December 06, 2014
Statement by Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel on the Death of Luke Somers

Yesterday, by order of the president of the United States, U.S. Special Operations Forces conducted a mission in Yemen to rescue a U.S. citizen, Luke Somers, and any other foreign nationals held hostage with him by Al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) terrorists. There were compelling reasons to believe Somers’ life was in imminent danger.

Both Somers and a second non-U.S. citizen hostage were murdered by the AQAP terrorists during the course of the operation. On behalf of the men and women of the U.S. armed forces, I extend our condolences, thoughts, and prayers to their families and loved ones.

Several of the AQAP terrorists holding the hostages captive were killed in the mission.

The rescue attempt took place in central Yemen and was conducted in partnership with the Government of Yemen. I thank President Hadi, the Yemeni government, and Yemen security forces for their assistance and cooperation.

Yesterday’s mission is a reminder of America’s unrelenting commitment to the safety of our fellow citizens – wherever they might be around the world.

I commend the troops who undertook this dangerous mission. Their service and valor are an inspiration to all of us.
