So thankful for this community. But no words after this decision today. The only consolation is that with the video and the facts here, a criminal federal civil rights action should be much easier than with Mike Brown. None of these cops are off the hook for federal charges. Just unbearably sad.

White America has COMPLETELY changed the role of a grand jury. They are not to indict an accused – they are to protect white people who kill black people. May they rot under the cries for justice.

How does one look at today and not conclude that America hates Black people?

Racists shoot us, they walk away free.

Racists are video taped killing us, and still they walk away free.

We talk right, we walk right, we dress right, we earn an education, we hold down jobs, we contribute in numerous ways to this country, but still they kill us and we can’t even get a facsimile of justice.

Every single day this country is killing us. This country is killing our fathers, our mothers, our sisters, our brothers, our nieces, our children, our nephews, our cousins, our grandparents all because of the color of our skin.

America is essentially saying that if you have white skin you are entitled to justice. If you have white skin you are entitled to do anything negative you want in this country and get away with it. If you have white skin you are entitled to life and damn everyone else.

There is a sickness in this country. There is a horror in this country and Black people are being killed because of it.

I still continue to hope for better days but right now, I look at African-Americans around me with tears in my eyes. I look at Black children around me with tears in my eyes because I’m not sure they may live to see tomorrow.

    May God help us all.

“All lives must be valuable; all lives” ~ Attorney Holder just now

    • December 3, 2014 at 7:41 pm

You are living what I and my parents remember in the 50’s and 60’s. Though I was a young pre-teen or so, I recall watching our people being attacked by dogs and hosed all for the right to vote. We didn’t have reruns back then—-we saw the news live. Lynching has never been outlawed in this country- it was only transformed, as we plainly see.

    • December 3, 2014 at 7:42 pm

Thanks Nerdy for so poignantly articulating what so many of us feel. There is no excuse under the sun for this. NONE whatsoever. Hatred is at the root of this. This country REWARDS people for spreading anti-Black hate. White men like Limbaugh, Joe Scarborough, Glen beck are being paid millions of $$ to spread anti-Black hate (and other forms of bigotry) all over this country. And we as Americans just sit back and allow this…we should be out in the streets demanding differently. This has got to end…it has to end.

Nerdy, I am so sorry for your heartache. I strongly believe this racist sickness has always been here but maybe social media makes everyone more aware of it. Imagine the newspaper headline – hell, it wouldn’t even have made a headline – had their not been citizens with cell phone cameras. This wouldn’t have even made it into a grand jury. The family would have been told any story by the police, they might have just said he wasn’t even taken down, just died suddenly of a heart attack. It might not be worse than it’s ever been – they are still lynching in a different form. But now it’s more visible. I do think that it will be pervasive in the US until whites become the minority. That day won’t come soon enough.

I can’t disagree with this, Nerdy: There is a sickness in this country. There is a horror in this country and Black people are being killed because of it.

There IS a sickness, same as it ever was. Racism and the things done in this country for whites and against people of color continue to be the scourge of the United States. I don’t know why we can’t fix it. I have never understood it.

Amerikkka is no longer, even remotely, in position to admonishing another country about it’s civil rights abuses.

Absolutely the truth sailor! We have no right to lecture anyone!!!

Bob…..just a couple of ideas in the pot for white people to begin the conversation which you and I know is needed leading to Truth and Reconciliation. I’m thinking Frank Schaeffer, who we all can see is disgusted and angry about the treatment of POC; Jim Wallis, who was included in the President’s roundtable Monday, and the Catholic bishop (can’t remember his name) who was on Face the Nation with Norah O’Donnell Sunday. Now I know these people will have a specific audience, and perhaps limited, but I firmly believe these people need to be enlisted early.

Waiting for AG Holder to begin…

In the meantime, does anyone here at TOD know about or work for Families USA or the California Endowment? They interviewed me regarding my thank you letter to PBO re the ACA and they want to use quotes from the interview with me for social media campaigns. I want to agree but the release form makes me a little nervous. Example:

“…these  Materials  may  be  edited,   used,  published,  distributed,  republished  and/or  licensed  by  Families  USA  Foundation,  now  or  at  any  time  in   the  future [for any purpose they see fit, basically].  I  waive  all  right  to  inspect  or  approve  the  use  of  the   Materials,  now  or  in  the  future….”

Does this mean they could edit what I say and I would have no power to object?

Any advice on this is appreciated! I want to help promote the ACA but I also understand social media stuff is on the net forever and my name will be attached. Thanks TODers!

Sad to say Africa, but I’m suspicious of anything with Families in the title. I”m thinking Family Research Council, Focus on the Family…..you get my drift. I would certainly research these organizations, and I don’t like the waiver you have to sign.

Is it just me or did AG Holder’s voice seem to be a bit broken up when he began speaking? I know he must have had to compose himself for the cameras after this news.

      • December 3, 2014 at 7:56 pm

I think he was actually out of breath when he approached the podium, like he raced there from another meeting. It took him a moment to catch his breath.

agree Chips, he was quite terse and to the point. Anyone who isn’t thoroughly disgusted with all of this, these cops, prosecutors and these knuckleheaded grand juries.. is someone I can’t understand.

Well, I walk in after a day away, and am shocked speechless to see another, but same, verdict – the US legal/law enforcement/public going around and around in concentric circles! I can’t think of a thing to say, really 😦
