Reminded me of there’s also a contest for the first 3-D Printed White House ornament announced in October.

Calling All Makers: Announcing the First-Ever White House 3D-Printed Ornament Challenge

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2014/10/30/calling-all-makers-announcing-first-ever-white-house-3d-printed-ornament-challenge

Here at the White House, planning for the 2014 holiday season is already in full swing! The house is buzzing with activity as preparations for the most festive time of the year are underway.

Once again, President Obama and the First Lady will welcome tens of thousands of visitors from around the country to tour the holiday decorations – and those that can’t make it in person will have the chance to explore the décor online. From Christmas trees and garlands to lights and ornaments, the holidays will be filled with wonder, delight, and excitement.

And this year, for the first time ever, we’re inviting makers and innovators around the country to participate in the White House 3D-Printed Ornament Challenge!

The Challenge, in partnership with the Smithsonian, invites makers, artists, designers, engineers, and anyone interested in 3D modeling and 3D printing to design a winter holiday-inspired ornament. Starting today and running until November 10, 2014, people can head over to Instructables to submit their design and for more details about the Challenge.

A selection of the winning ornament designs will be 3D printed and displayed in the White House during the holiday season; featured on the Smithsonian’s state-of-the-art 3D data platform, 3d.si.edu; and will join a small collection of White House ornaments in the political history division of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.

Good afternoon, good small business Saturday to everyone.

    Congrats, Dudette, on #1.

PBO’s reaction to upChuck’s book was priceless — I know he was thinking, “Chuck Todd can write?”

LL’s not here to enjoy it, but look at the forecast for Tuesday in SoCal — 100% chance of rain! Haven’t seen that for a long, long time. It’s been unseasonably warm and dry, feels like Arizona or New Mexico recently (but thankfully with no wind).

Seems like a slow day at TOD, so for those of you who are sheltering against inclement weather, here’s something to chuckle over.

Hopefully, this ‘nation state’ law will fail, if not, all Israelis will suffer.

        Interesting insights …

“Jewishness is my primary identity, though I have others. Judaism is my tradition and heritage and when I choose to be religious, my faith. The Jewish people are my history and whether I like them or not, my extended family and future. Jewish is my cuisine, music and literature. But while I am quite happy for legislators and judges,in Israel and abroad, to find inspiration in the more reasonable legal principles of the Talmud or the writings of Maimonides and other rabbis, Jewish values, even if we could hypothetically agree on what they are, will never replace liberal democracy as my preferred form of government. And the unstated but unmistakable intention of the nation-state law is that Israel will become less of a democracy, certainly not a liberal one.

The sponsors of the bill, and Netanyahu as well, argue that it is needed since many today, more than even, are questioning the right of the Jews to their homeland. That is at best a paranoia-induced illusion and at worst a bare-faced lie. The Jewish state has never been so widely accepted and nearly universally recognized as it is today. Over 80 percent of the world’s nations have formal diplomatic relations with Israel and a significant proportion of those which don’t have quiet strategic and economic ties with the Jewish state. This week, one of those relationships on display was the silent coordination between Israel and Saudi Arabia on the sidelines of the Vienna P5+1 talks with Iran.”
