President Barack Obama, First Daughters Sasha and Malia Obama at the annual tradition of pardoning the National Thanksgiving Turkey. This year’s turkey is named ‘Cheese.’

President Obama and his daughters, Malia and Sasha, check out one of the turkeys before today's annual turkey pardon http://t.co/HTfuanTvrg
If it was up to me to provide a definition to the word ‘exquisite’, all I would need to write is Obama (as in the entire family). Make your own choice, but each on their own, or the whole family together, fits my idea of exquisite perfectly. Thank you very much! 🙂
Exquisite is just perfect to describe them all. Their smiles could light up the entire world! Never have I cared so much for a president and his family. I can’t wait to get here in the morning to find out more…..I am over three score and ten…..surely I should have “outgrown” this…but no. I love them.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day and weekend…….Have you heard about WalMart workrs? They are strong!
They’re not the kind of people we can out grow Carolyn.. we’ll just evolve with them.. because we know they’ll just keep doing good things, and who wants to miss that.
Yep to Walmart workers- a whole lotta young folks are standing up across this country and making some good noise.
And I, carolyn and sherijr, am moved by the very being of these people. You know I have often articulated how I feel PBO is a sterling example of what the human race can become, and Michelle Obama in her own right is every bit as evolved as he. So, in my mind, and heart, it goes without saying the daughters of two people, who not only exhibit unfailing intelligence, compassion and grace, but under extreme and demanding expectations never fail to rise to a higher place, would inherit in their DNA the strength, beauty, refinement and intellect surpassing that of the parents. This is what all humans hope for their children: that they will be better than we, that they find the way forward even when the path seems dark. We all know the children are our future, and we cheer them on with unconditional love, for theirs is no easy task. Yet, there lies our Hope!
Pondering a little further as I prepare dinner: without these exceptional characteristics, these humble yet powerful people would not have taken on the enormous task of turning this ship. Remember PBO said it is a huge ship, and cannot be turned slowly, but my dears, I believe what we witness in this time of potent communication, it IS turning! (some of us may be onboard more as ballast than anything else, but hey, ballast is important too!)
WOW…what a gorgeous family. The haters can’t touch this. And folks, enough about Sasha looking “sad” or “pissed off.” She’s a normal teenager who just happens to have a serious-looking resting facial expression more of the time than not.
it’s always looked like she’s simply introverted, and reluctantly goes in front of the cameras to help her mom and dad out. i have a daughter who is exactly like this. the second she can focus just on her family members and be real, she’s all smiles and talkative. this is textbook introvert, and it’s times 1000 for her by being in the first family and everything that comes with it! can’t begin to imagine what it’s like for her to grow up in that! i think they all do a fantastic job in every way as the first family.
I agree hopefruit2 1000%. Remember how the press did the same thing when Sasha, Malia, Mrs. Robinson and FLOTUS were in China? All they talked about was how Sasha wasn’t to thrill to be in China.
I’m just a TOD flitter. Flit in and out and around. Absences!!? But haven’t seen any recent pics of Bo or Sunny. Did I just miss them? Or……are they being ……………………………………SHIELDED???
The poor turkey prolly wanted to say a simple ‘hello’. 😀 smh – *You* would find it funny /’says vc while giggling/ Seriously, CC, what would you have done under similar circumstances? 😀
My favourite twin! 😉 Yep, there’s no way *I* would have been hanging around to get that much footage. The minute it made the first determined step in my direction I would have been out of there! Of course, from the safety of my room I was gigging at her out of breath escape. 😀
Oh my god, Chips, that’s friggin hilarious. I know that exact feeling! I grew up on a farm where we raised about 80,000 turkeys a year. Yeah, no kidding. Most of them were docile, uninteresting birds but sometimes a full grown male turkey would decide to become aggressive like this one and there was nothing to do but run from it. A LOT of things that didn’t get captured on videotape back then lol.
I’m still howling Forus! But relieved too that I didn’t grow up on your farm, I suspect I would have been screaming like that woman if he came after me!!
Reminds me of when one of my friends had some MEAN geese. And they were! Always chasing after you and HONKING and SNAPPING. GD MEAN! And then on one visit I brought my 2 year-old ENERGETIC black standard poodle. She immediately started chasing these BIG MEAN geese and they were: “OMG!! WHAT”S THIS??!? RUN THE F**K AWAAAAY!!!!!”
oh, yeah–laughing, and also holding my breath! (very tricky–do not try that at home!) waiting for that turkey to start pecking apart the car window. add some jurassic park music, and this thing would give me nightmares!
I am lost! Starting at the previous post, I was trying to catch up when Desertflower threw in the Bryan Stevenson town hall and TOTALLY derailed my efforts! Now, I’ll just sit here on the ‘First Family’s Day’ – thank you, NerdyW – until I have to go to bed. No point trying to do the impossible and cover everything!
Excellent and safe idea, VC, let us join in from this moment, and walk a while amongst friends and loved ones! I am not certain how many threads I’ve missed today, but tomorrow I will have some quiet time for the first time in a week, and I may try to go back over as I know there is much richness and depth in every post.
I have been trying daily to, at least, cover what was covered during my absence, but our excellent reporters plus our chatty obots and my general tiredness have made it really, really hard, MP. Given I’m way behind today, I’m now forced to join in from this moment ’cause I have to go in again tomorrow. Happily, I know the info is here even when I can’t get to it all.
By the time I get home tomorrow your Thanksgiving will be almost ‘over’, so
It was SO GOOD, wasn’t it, vc?? He was so on point and unwavering in his determination to right this injustice and make America open her eyes to what we need to do to make us all free… I will get his book, Just Mercy, this weekend.
It was spell-binding, Df! I had watched his interview and TED talk (originally shared here by Taiping) so only meant to catch the first 10 mins today, given my time constraints. Heck, I even ended up listening to the town hall questions!!!! I have his book on my reading list – maybe I’ll ask for it for Christmas.
SO glad that you enjoyed it…found that link on Smartypants blog and I was drawn to it…had to share with all of you. I will grab that book this weekend.
“We cannot learn these two truths: the aggressor never wants peace, ‘appeasement’ only helps them in advancing successfully, the aggressor always blames the victim for starting the war. This will happen regardless of the victim’s behavior, therefore the victims needs completely different policies, a different quality of measures should be taken to successfully counter aggression.”
Let me just share this again: My grandbaby was due today… so far no show, lil stinker. His mama is going to induce on Sunday if he doesn’t appear before then 🙂 🙂
thank you Chips 🙂 I’m very excited. I think his mama just doesn’t want to share him with us yet 😉 She seems none to eager to let him out. I guess I’ll have to just be a patient grandma. ((((Chips)))) thank you!
thank you global, she is a lovely woman, honestly I couldn’t ask for a better mother for my grandchild, she is completely lovely. Happy holidays to you 🙂
Picture of my little brother and sister (with some city visitors) after we had just received about 20,000 day old turkeys delivered by Land O’ Lakes to raise for them in our big turkey barn. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
After a challenging number of days, I, like others here are very grateful for:
– the voters & supporters who twice decided to judge PBO by the content of his character and his achievements and overwhelmingly elect him to lead during these times of multiple global changes;
– Ms. Chips, Ms. Nerdy. the Mini Blog Tyrants and everyone who helps make this the first place I visit for priority news each day I get up;
We continue to support PBO as he pushes the world forward
By the way, the West Wing Week video is out a day early;
I don’t know if it has already been shared;
Inside this gem, I caught a few precious seconds hidden there => during the Service event at Bread for the City, the video recorded two kids excited to identify PBO and “asking” him to confirm if he indeed is the POTUS;
The interaction also stood out because the kids addressed PBO with his title – something a number of adults seem unable to do;
my thought was : these kids are coming from a home where the parents or caregivers show respect to (and probably admiration of) this President
Have a Blessed Thanksgiving Day TODDERS. Hope everyone enjoys good food and great family re-unions.
We all have a lot to be thankful for. I am especially thankful that both my kids were able to come home for the holiday.
It’s very rare once they leave home to get them both in the same place at the same time. So this makes me happy.
I am also thankful for our exquisite First Family … as MP so aptly described them. They light up our lives.
I am also thankful for Ms Chips and Nerdy Wonka and this TOD sanctuary. Your hard work and diligence are greatly appreciated. You are
simply the best.
the presiden’t’s plan to bolster pre-school education is supported by this recent research, reports bloomberg:
‘ Full-day preschool may prepare children better for learning and social development than part-time programs, new research showed, bolstering the case for putting kids in classrooms at younger ages. ‘
‘ Consumer sentiment in the U.S. climbed last week to the highest level since December 2007 as Americans grew more upbeat about the state of the economy, their financial well-being and the buying climate.
The Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index advanced to 40.7 for the period ended Nov. 23 from 38.5, according to a report today. All three components improved last week, with the gauge of views on whether it’s a good time to shop rising to a seven-year high.
Labor market gains, record stock values and gas prices at four-year lows are boosting household sentiment in time for the holiday-shopping season. Fatter paychecks for lower-income earners would help households across all income brackets to make more purchases. ‘
Don’t tell me that the KKK Ferguson police force and 2,200 National Guard couldn’t make sure that businesses in the small area of the protests weren’t looted. This was stone cold intentional to let this happen.
The real tragedy of the #Ferguson riots. A minority business owner standing in his destroyed store this morning. https://t.co/HGmhxBQWOS
For all we know, this was intentionally destroyed because he is a minority business holder. What other reason would there be for destroying the store, as opposed to stealing objects? I do NOT trust that elaborate build-up Nixon and McCulloch engaged in before the actual announcement.
I want to thank you for posting the beautiful pictures of our First Family in service to others. They are truly a beautiful role model of love and giving for the rest of us. Happy Thanksgiving to my TOD family. I love you all. I wish everyone a wonderful TG day.
Beautiful family:)
In_Deed, df!! Congrats 🙂
Thank you for all this loveliness, NW!!
Thanks, Bob.
Thanks:) Thanks to you, too…Nerdy:) As always!
Thanks, DF.

perfectly said… I was thinking- spectacular- while looking at the pictures.. and magnificent- but I think exquisite says it all, MP.

Carolyn, we don’t outgrow special feelings like the ones we have about the president and his family and thank God for that. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Helllloooooo…….
What a lovely uplifting post Nerdy, thanks a TRAZILLION!!!
Thank you, Mrs. Rooooooooooooooney!
Thank you, Mrs Costaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

This is a 13 year old kid who doesn’t want to be in front of some camera 24/7. With her family and friends she is just fine.
Yes, exactly anniebella.
I’m just a TOD flitter. Flit in and out and around. Absences!!? But haven’t seen any recent pics of Bo or Sunny. Did I just miss them? Or……are they being ……………………………………SHIELDED???
In. Tears.
The poor turkey prolly wanted to say a simple ‘hello’. 😀 smh – *You* would find it funny /’says vc while giggling/ Seriously, CC, what would you have done under similar circumstances? 😀
“what would you have done under similar circumstances?”
I would have broken Usain Bolt’s world record while I ran away 😆
#chicken
I’d be in a right fowl mood if I was chased like that.
tuna fish
Gobble gobble.
And Fedex is the goat.

I thought you were being rude about him! What age is he now, 97?
and yet still the goat.
🙂 🙂
My favourite twin! 😉 Yep, there’s no way *I* would have been hanging around to get that much footage. The minute it made the first determined step in my direction I would have been out of there! Of course, from the safety of my room I was gigging at her out of breath escape. 😀
LOL!
Uh, not sure who is the bigger turkey!! (I suspect it’s the lady with the camera!)
😆 I want to marry that turkey. Is that legal?
Yes.
Oh my god, Chips, that’s friggin hilarious. I know that exact feeling! I grew up on a farm where we raised about 80,000 turkeys a year. Yeah, no kidding. Seriously Magapie, I howled my way through it – and how epic was it that he circled the car!!!! 😆
CLASSIC!!!
this!!! 🙂
This is HILARIOUS!!!! ROTFLMAO 🙂 🙂 )
The turkey just refuses to leave her alone! HAhahahahahahahahahaha..
Hopefruit, my sides are in severe pain, that turkey is a LEGEND!!!!!!! 😆
Yes, he sure is….And the way he came up to car after she had closed the door…circling the vehicle to dare her to come out…
HAHAHahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Chuck Todd would get far better reviews on Amazon writing a book about this turkey chasing a reporter….
😆 When he appeared at the window, I was DEAD!
This is the FUNNIEST part…he was just not having it. He was utterly ticked off by that – you could tell…
I was told on good authority it’s a female. 😉
Pardon my blooper…*she* was utterly ticked off….
;-))
oh, yeah–laughing, and also holding my breath! (very tricky–do not try that at home!) waiting for that turkey to start pecking apart the car window. add some jurassic park music, and this thing would give me nightmares!
yes! his head pops up like “i’m still HERE” 😀

thank you Chips 🙂 I’m very excited. I think his mama just doesn’t want to share him with us yet 😉 She seems none to eager to let him out. I guess I’ll have to just be a patient grandma. ((((Chips)))) thank you!
sherijr, you know me and my rusty, useless memory – will this be your first grandchild?
ha! no this will be number 6. we have 3 girls and Carter will be the 3rd boy. 🙂
😳 See? I told you my memory was useless!!
Carter? Love that!!!
well I had to count them on my fingers Chips 😉 so you see how good my memory is 🙂
Ha, you are too kind!!! 🙂
am not 🙂
Best wishes for your family.
thank you Carol, gotta love babies 🙂 can’t wait to hold the little bundle.
I can only image, I’d be very excited too. 😉
best of luck to you and your family as you welcome the new grandbaby;
may the “Maama-to-be” remain strong and patient as she bring a new life into the world
thank you global, she is a lovely woman, honestly I couldn’t ask for a better mother for my grandchild, she is completely lovely. Happy holidays to you 🙂
The girls are as tall as their parents. Almost.
Malia is now as tall as FLOTUS and just a couple inches under PBO…
Picture of my little brother and sister (with some city visitors) after we had just received about 20,000 day old turkeys delivered by Land O’ Lakes to raise for them in our big turkey barn. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

{{{{Linda}}}} Have an absolutely wonderful day tomorrow, and thank you!!
I’m having a severe problem with Danny and Calamity Jane this week.
Where I cross the road with him to go on his epic adventure every day, there’s a big poster hanging advertising Calamity Jane in some local hall.
The poster has a silhouette type thingie of Jane on a horse, and Danny goes completely bonkers every time he sees it.
I almost have to sit on top of him to stop him dragging me across the road to, um, tackle it.
I really, really cannot wait for the show to be over. 😕
hmmm– you sitting on galloping danny, probably a perfect homage to calamity jane 🙂
😆 It’s quite a scene Susanne, a lady asked me today what was wrong with him and I pointed to Calamity Jane. She’s still laughing, I suspect.
🙂
lol, so am I, laughing.. hilarious you and that Danny- loves wild women apparently!
By the way, the West Wing Week video is out a day early;

What a BEAUTIFUL (inside & out) First Family.
Thank Uuuuu NW 🙂
I want to thank you for posting the beautiful pictures of our First Family in service to others. They are truly a beautiful role model of love and giving for the rest of us. Happy Thanksgiving to my TOD family. I love you all. I wish everyone a wonderful TG day.
Yes thanks for the wonderful pictures of our First Family. I hope they have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
