MSM keep making a big deal about the so-called “Mission” of the GOP now that they are the in majority in the Senate…i guess that they have forgotten that Mitch McConnell said in 2009 that his main mission was to make PBO a one-termed President or that the GOP Filibustered 300 plus bills…….more than any other time in American History…and remember that time that McConnell filibustered his own bill…and last but certainly not least …that clandestine meeting of the GOP to hatch the strategy of OBSTRUCTION on the night of the Inauguration…

the MSM tries to make this all seem new…as a way giving themselves cover for not telling the American people what the GOP has been doing….

    • November 10, 2014 at 2:12 pm

Excuse what I’m about to say, but the MSM isn’t worth “SHIT”. Excuse my language.

I DO HAVE TO SAY THAT AMERICA ‘IS NOT’ ANYMORE…IT HAS BECOME A STAGING GROUND FOR GREED,VIOLENCE AND SELFISHNESS….AND TO AIM ALL OF THIS ‘HORSE MANURE’ AT OUR FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN PRESIDENT THEY WILL DISCOVER TO BE…A MAJOR OFFENSE AGAINST GOD…WHO CREATED ALL OF MANKIND IN HIS IMAGE. I WOULD NOT WANT TO BE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF GOD’S ANGER!

THE PRESIDENT HAS ALWAYS BEEN QUITE CORRECT REGARDING THE ‘KEY TO UNLOCKING THE HORRIFIC GRIP OF POVERTY’….EDUCATION!!!!…AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIT IN THE CLASSROOM AND LEARN! HOWEVER…THE CORPORATE STATUS…BUT WITH EXCEPTION OF A FEW LIKE BILL GATES…ARE MERELY INTERESTED IN THE PROMOTION OF THE PROFITABLE WALLET…PEOPLE ARE LAST ON THE FOOD CHAIN! EVENTUALLY THIS KIND OF SELFISHNESS WILL ALL BACKFIRE ON THEM. I BELIEVE IN GOD’S JUSTICE AND YOU JUST MIGHT LOOK FORWARD TO MR. [Not sure if this was posted @ TOD. Apologies if already covered. Harry @ 87 is simply lovely! Harry: “…. it powerfully mutes the enemies’ thunder.” I love those words together!]:

LOS ANGELES — Harry Belafonte rocked the Governors Awards Saturday night, giving an impassioned appeal to the Hollywood community to change the world for the better.

Belafonte, 87, made the appeal as he received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He was one of four film titans to receive honorary Academy Awards. […..]

“Each and every one of you in this room, with your gifts, your power and your skills, can perhaps change the way in which our global humanity mistrusts itself,” Belafonte said. “Perhaps we as artists and visionaries can influence citizens everywhere in the world to see the better side of what we are as a species.”

Belafonte’s speech received a rousing ovation from the crowd of Hollywood heavyweights, which included Kevin Costner, Warren Beatty, Danny Glover, Ron Howard, Robert Downey Jr. and Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs.

He called fellow trailblazing actor Sidney Poitier, 87, to the stage to be honored as well.

“To be rewarded by my peers for my work in human rights, civil rights and peace — let me put it this way, it powerfully mutes the enemies’ thunder,” said Belafonte.

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/us-opens-ebola-treatment-unit-liberia-26809028

The new clinic opened in Tubmanburg, about 60 kilometers (40 miles) north of the capital, Monrovia. The number of people with Ebola appears to declining in the capital, Monrovia, but more cases are popping up in other areas of the West African country, according to the World Health Organization.

Liberia has lost more than 2,700 people to the deadly virus, spread by direct contact with bodily fluids.

The U.S. has authorized the Pentagon to deploy up to 4,000 service members to West Africa to build the 100-bed units and bring supplies into the country; the U.S. is also helping to train medical workers and burial teams.

The virus has taken a heavy toll on health care workers, sickening more than 500 in the hardest-hit countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. Some 4,500 health workers are still needed, according to WHO. The U.S. has already opened a field hospital dedicated to treating infected health workers; the center that opened Monday is the first of several that will treat ordinary Liberians.

    FABULOUS IDEA!! http://www.sanders.senate.gov/democracyday

Sen. Bernie Sanders has proposed a bill to designate “Democracy Day” as a national election holiday to make it easier for Americans to vote.

Nationwide, preliminary indications are that the total turnout for the 2014 elections was only 36.6 percent, according to the United States Elections Project at the University of Florida.

In America, we should be celebrating our democracy and doing everything possible to make it easier for people to participate in the political process. Election Day should be a national holiday so that everyone has the time and opportunity to vote. While this would not be a cure-all, it would indicate a national commitment to create a more vibrant democracy.

We should not be satisfied with a “democracy” in which more than 60 percent of our people don’t vote and some 80 percent of young people and low-income Americans fail to vote. We can and must do better than that. While we must also focus on campaign finance reform and public funding of elections, establishing an Election Day holiday would be an important step forward.

Sign up.sign on, and PASS IT ON

DF, I’d trade having Election Day for July 4 any day of the week. The Fourth is just a lot of jumped up faux patriotism used as an excuse to overindulge on food and beer. People wave flags and get misty-eyed, but haven’t the faintest idea what it takes to sustain a democracy. Forget waving flags and go out and vote.

    Just sad—-dumb and dumber America….

    • November 10, 2014 at 2:43 pm

In America´s defence here, these programmes usually look for the dumbest and cut out those that give the rigth answers, Here in germany there was a late night show that used to do something they called “first vote check” with teenages who could vote for the first time and they would do stuff like show them pictures of politicians adn a map of Europe…the results were dreadful.
Still a sad result though. Yay for there being teachers 😀

Have I ever told you the story of when Xi Jinping came to my hometown of Muscatine, Iowa in 2012? The visit was because he had fond memories of his stay there 27 years before and wanted to see it again – http://www.npr.org/2012/11/12/164940204/chinas-next-president-is-widely-traveled So I have a sort of good impression of him, but I still don’t trust what side he’s on.

So the radio tells me that McTurtle is about to have a cow about out of control government regulation of the Internet.

Just so you know what today’s GOP/MSM/Koch talking points are about net neutrality.

And “David Edelman, Senior Advisor for Technology and Economic Policy at the White House. That means I get to work on a range of tech and internet issues near and dear to you all, including net neutrality. The President just made a big announcement on that today and is urging the FCC to keep the internet open and free. You can check out the President’s plan here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/net-neutrality

I’ll be here at 2pm ET to answer your questions about the President’s plan and what it means. Ask me anything.”

Arapaho, I doubt that McConnell even understands what he’s having a cow about. He just opposes anything the president says as a reflex reaction. I hope a lot of things get pounded through in the lame duck Congress. Really Harry Reid has nothing to lose at this point.

What is hidden camera and when Reporters try to get stories…..like to catch a predictor…….should they be told to stop?
FBI is a law enforcement agency. Just like CIA, or any other Intel apparatus….it is their duty to do what they can…..to Nab a criminal……period.

OK, someone has to say it, so it may as well be me. The silliest aspect of international diplomacy is the shirts leaders are made to wear at the APEC summit. For every PBO in “the shirt”, there are ten abominations… like the shirt they wore today. It’s time for a grass roots movement to get APEC to stop making heads of state/government wear those things.

thank you liblib. it’s as if the host nation’s having a laugh at the expense of their visitors. possibly they’re trying to counter the ubiquitous western business suit, as a standard of attire for heads of state, which is fine. but the costume-y aspect of these ‘family photos’ is just weird.

Since HBO started hyping its “Salute to The Troops” concert/shebang for tomorrow, it has been rubbing me the wrong way.
Before Election day I resented all the Stars, Money and hoop-la about Veterans Day. Not that I am unfriendly to the USM. Far from it .
I want everyone who has served to get every benefit, every dollar and every bit of credit they deserve.

What irked me then and kills me now is All That Energy for a tribute, when not a speck of juice was available to get voters to the polls.

I get that it is a profit-driven enterprise. Rights, albums, who knows posters for sale. It makes me sick.

So, TOD, am I nothing but a crabby old woman or is there something here that bothers others, too?

I understand what you are saying Vicki, the veterans need housing, jobs and health care. I’m not bothered so much about the concerts, I hope all the money these concerts generate goes to the veterans that need it.

I hope we still have Obamacare. Because the democrats in congress ran away from Obamacare I believe they have emboldened the Rrepublicans and the conservatives on the Supreme Court to try to destroy it. I really hope I am wrong but this midterm election has really made me realize just how cowardly most of the democrats in the senate and house have been.

Just did a quick look at healthcare.gov. I was just “shopping”. The site looks wonderful, streamlined, very easy to navigate.

I’m not completely sure, but it looks like my premium will go DOWN this year. Have to make sure I’m comparing apples to apples. I will be Medicare eligible in May, so I only need a few months of insurance.

By all means, let’s take this away from Americans. Idiots.
