The world loves and appreciates President Barack Obama as much as WE do. Some are leery of him because he brings to light their short-comings, especially when it comes to their lack of compassion for their fellow man.

I hope the writher is right. . .
The mischief begins. House Speaker John Boehner is already getting snarky in sabotaging the president’s naïve effort to “bring the two sides together.” That approach has never worked and with the new radicalism of the right, it never will.

I love The Newsroom—-which just pimped all the TV anchors who sign off with their reporters by saying, “Stay safe.” The reporter could be in Waterloo, Iowa, and the in studio personality will say “Stay safe.” I laugh every time. It’s so planned and programmed and manipulative—–see it on msnbc all the time—-other stations probably do it too——but we’re supposed to think that their reporters are risking life and limb to bring us the unvarnished news. And other than a few possibly risky locations, this is an unnecessary piece of advice. Newsroom just yelled at their anchors, “I don’t want ANYONE saying “Stay safe.” And they yelled it again. Thank you. Wish we had a real The Newsroom here in America.

Yes, it is crazy. I remember CNN after 9/11, the guy named Aaron interviewed newspaper Editors from around the country. The one I’m referring to is the night he had a Cheyenne, WY Editor on. At the near end of the interview he asked the WY guy why WY citizens would even care about what happened on 9/11. The Editor didn’t say anything. My head was silently screaming ‘WY’ is a ‘State’. The first soldier in Afghanistan had just died, Killed In Action, from WY. He was in a helicopter accident with another man who was also stationed at ‘Warren Air Force Base’ in Cheyenne, WY, where the stupid Editor was and he didn’t acknowledge our Military.
I hope this makes sense because I just got mad all over again thinking about our stupid media and the mess Pres. Obama inherited.

Good evening TOD! Thanks to Chips, NW, LL and everyone else for all the great news. I don’t know how everyone keeps up. So glad PBO arrived safely in China. It will be a good week for him. And I am so hoping there is progress on the Iranian talks. But you can bet Bibi is tearing his hair out and will be attempting to his GOP base riled up as well.

Saw the FTN interview this morning. As always, PBO was great. And I agree with Bob, he is the leader of the Democratic party and has to take responsibility for the losses, even if they weren’t his fault. That’s just the way it is. But the Dems have done serious damage with his base and they are going to have work damned hard the next two years to bring everyone back into the fold. If they continue on their chicken little path, they could well lose the WH in 2016.

The thing that surprised me most this morning was the Bushes. They pretty much criticized the GOP for the way they treat our President. GWB said it used to be that the things you said had consequences, and that is not the case anymore. And Laura said they did not have to live through what the whole Obama family has had to live with during these six years with social media and people going after their entire family. Pretty bad when the former first family feels bad for the current one.

In any event, thanks as always to everyone who contributes so much here. I am done being depressed and angry, and am looking forward to seeing what PBO gets done in the coming years. He knows how to work the GOP, and will continue to throw it back in their laps. I have no doubt they will accomplish nothing, but certainly will be even a bigger PIA. Anyone who thinks PBO will accept “lame duck” status has NOT been paying attention to this man!

I am already thinking about what has happened while looking for the silver lining. It may be that the Democratic party will shift even more into the thinking of the Obama coalition. Now is the time to double down on local and state level participation. Maybe some will start to here our voices now. Sometimes they make us invisible. Locally I started talking about GOTV with this election and you would think I was speaking Greek.

  14. November 9, 2014 at 9:48 pm

Bottom line, it’s long past time for America convening an Iraq War Tribunal.

The crimes against Iraqis, Americans and our allies – willfully perpetrated by GWB and his gang of war profiteers, torturers, liars and murderers – await accountability.

If history is any lesson, one way or another, that day of accounting will arrive.

It would be far better for America if we conducted a tribunal and held ourselves accountable. Far better.

      Well let’s see..

      AP’s snarky “clout” tweet (17hrs ago) –

47 retweets, and 18 favorites (AP has 4.3M followers)

Nerdy’s Tweet featuring a Canadian singing PBO’s praises (12hrs ago)

6,429 retweets and 4,767 favorites. (Nerdy Wonka has 15.4K followers)

      ANY QUESTIONS?

      • 54 arapaho415
        November 9, 2014 at 10:14 pm

I think @NerdyWonka set a record for retweets compared to number of followers (almost 50% of her followers retweeted her classic tweet, which is saying a lot because NW is the Queen of Tweets) for a non-public figure.

It’s not just AP, though, its the MSM slant.

When did MSM join Rush Limbaugh in wanting this President to fail?

And now they are pretty much cheerleading the failure of America’s foreign policy.

Treasonous fourth estate, the lot of them.

        • 55 hopefruit2
          November 9, 2014 at 10:38 pm

The point I’m making is that the extraordinary number of retweets (over 6K) of a Canadian’s rebuke of the midterm result and praise of President Obama is in fact a testament this President’s HIGH GLOBAL CLOUT.

And AP’s trying to question PBO’s global clout is laughable in the face of their measly 47 retweets after 17 hrs – given their 4.34 Million followers. 🙂 🙂

Trying to figure out which MSMers are in Asia/Australia with PBO, and came across this from Thursday.

Looks like @DWStweets and @DCCC can cancel their “investigation” of #2014results.

The more I think about the way Dems handled this election the more infuriated I become with them.

I couldn’t figure out why Dems didn’t embrace the record of PBO, but now I wonder if this was the advice from @dccc. Are Dems truly ashamed of @BarackObama’s race? What other explanation could there be?

Sorry that I’m so slow to catch on, but this is gobsmacking to me.

    • 66 hopefruit2
      November 9, 2014 at 10:18 pm

No, the Dems are not “ashamed” of PBO’s race – they had no problem rallying around him/his policies, and riding his coattails when he was on the ballot in 2008 and 2012 and they thought they could benefit from him.

However, in their eagerness to have Clinton be the defacto 2016 presidential nominee, they cynically pandered to the lowest common denominator of bigotry by trying to get votes from racist dixiecrats in the South and midwest, thinking that this was a great strategy as long as the Clintons were the face of the Dem party.

Not only did the Dem base solidly reject that “strategy” but the election outcome also sent a message that the Clintons AND the Dem party have an imperative to stand by PBO and his policies as closely as possible if HRC wants to be anywhere close to being the 2016 Dem nominee.

      • 67 MadameSoph
        November 9, 2014 at 10:49 pm

Interesting analysis, HF! Again you are having some unique (and probably spot-on) insights. Yes, it makes sense that the whole “Clinton Democrat” thing was supposed to kick-off HRC 2016 and make PBO irrelevant so she wouldn’t have to ruffle any of the so-called “working-class white” feathers by embracing his record! So much for that strategy!

      • November 10, 2014 at 3:26 am

hf, the more I think about your theory, the more I’m convinced your absolutely correct.

In their rush to speed up the coronation of HRC, the DNC took her early lead on distancing themselves from the President. DWS and the DNC decided to float their Clinton Trial Balloon election strategy as a run-up to 2016. It’s apparent that 2016 is all they’ve been focused on for the last year. So the entire Dem apparatus bailed on President Obama in order to fluff up her candidacy and anoint her prowess as a campaigner. But the whole thing blew up on them in such spectacular fashion, it’s staggering to even contemplate how they thought this might be a winner.

Even now, in the face of such a horrific defeat, and in typical Clinton fashion, rather than recognize the reality of what actually happened, Hillary is doubling down on this strategy of distancing herself from PBO. And she is walking right into the GOP trap. Even Politico wrote an article today saying that beside McConnell, the person who won the most out of this election is Hillary Clinton. So I don’t expect this whole soul-searching election review DWS outlined in her lame and insulting video to go anywhere. They are just pretending that they give a shit.

In fact, when I think clearly back to that time over a year ago when DWS appointed Harold Ickes to the DNC rules and bylaws committee, that was the first signal that DWS would be taking orders from the Clinton machine going forward:

Clinton adviser Harold Ickes’ return to DNC signals power play by Bill and Hillary
Ickes, a longtime Clinton ally, has been appointed to a spot on the Democratic National Committee’s rules and bylaws panel.

        http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/clinton-adviser-harold-ickes-return-dnc-signals-power-play-bill-hillary-article-1.1439132

So I essentially see this mid-term election as having the Clinton’s fingerprints all over it. And I don’t expect a whole lot to change because they have too much riding on their investment in the Clintons and the Clinton’s are too tone-deaf and self-serving to get a clue. After all, they’ve already measured the drapes and Dems are already sucking up to be a part of her administration. You couldn’t craft this sort of operational strategy any further or more in contrast to anything President Obama would do or even remotely consider. It’s mind-boggling and absolutely frightening to watch this unfold.

  19. November 9, 2014 at 10:10 pm

Over the next two years, this simple reality is what is going to enable the majority of Americans who seek a better life for future generations to rally and prevail ….

I have no doubt that the best days of President Obama’s leadership are still ahead – while he’s still President and beyond.

Am thrilled to awaken each day knowing that, in whatever small way, I can strive to contribute to the arc of history he is bending toward justice for all.

NerdyW., thanks so much for being in my life. You are so steady with your support with my beautiful Chips. Love you both for keeping us strong in this space.

While lying in bed fighting with my gut, I just had a wonderful and uplifting time listening to The Nathaniel Dett Chorale. The director spoke so beautifully about their invite to POB’s Inauguration in 2009. Representing our great friends and neighbor, Canada. I hope that Chips will share them with our TOD family during this healing period. It would have been a lovely fit to your post today, Nerdy W.

I love Nathaniel Dett’s contributions to our music. This chorale does a lovely job in presenting his music. Just beautiful. I hope we will have a listen to them one day here. Maybe Dudette will choose one of the lovely renditions for us. Just lovely voices and most beautiful loving spirits for being here with us during the Inauguration of our 44th President. Canadians truly are lovely. Music brings people together, I feel. I had my own private concert today. I loved all of the music, but Ave Maria, Abide With Me, and Listen To The Lambs were so beautifully arranged. Great director.. I had to direct Listen To The Lambs as one of my songs for my final in my conducting class. I did get an A+ in the class. Music is one of my most precious love lines to take hold of in this journey of life.

As a student of history, I am absolutely certain that President Obama will go down in history as one of the best Presidents in U. S. history. I came across an article about this on WaPo this morning (the article in the tweet is dated Oct 15), and clicked on it because I didn’t understand the headline.

I’m such a late adopter I had no idea that clock-radios with built in surveillance cameras existed, and you can purchase on Amazon right now, if that tickles your fancy.

Pisses me off that Snowdenwald and emoputins are so concerned about cyber surveillance from a dudebro perspective, yet in our personal lives you can unwittingly be a victim of creepy surveillance from a non-online source — that innocuous clock-radio sitting on the corner table.

    Article headline:
“Rabbi charged with voyeurism hid camera in clock-radio in ritual bath, police report says”
which refers to a monthly cleansing ritual required of Orthodox Jewish women after their monthly cycle ends in a Mikvah.

As my college students would say…..”Hillary is SOOOO last century!” Yes, she is.

I wrote on a previous post that the Demo party needs younger, vital, vibrant new leaders…..people with ideas that the young can understand and support. The old white Southern Republican should not be the target for Demos……they are lost. We need to build a solid constituency of millennials and younger.

I know many people don’t like Daily Kos, but today there is a great diary from a young person who is chairman of Uncut….telling the Democrats what they need to do, and it is exactly what we’ve been saying. The author said she voted because she was interested in ballot measure, and that Gary Peters won because he talked about the necessity of combating climate change. If young people can’t see any difference between Republicans and Democrats, they aren’t going to vote. The author pointed out that the progressive ballot measures won. She says that the Democrats need to be genuine populists.

The last line: ” To his opponents, this president’s greatest sins are his success and his self.” That pretty well summarizes what we’ve been talking about.

I thought this was a really interesting article with insight into the difficulties of the Democratic Party. It’s talking about 40 years of surveys on racial attitudes and how the GOP are pretty consistent in theirs (blacks are responsible for their own problems), Independents aren’t much better, but Democrats outside the south have shifted (problems are a result of systemic discrimination) and Democrats in the haven’t, causing a shift in the party. It refers to Mary Landrieu and her remarks about racism in the south.

do not blame the democratic party. do not blame debbie wasserman-schultz. do not blame alison lundergan-grimes. this is a form of blaming the victim. all blame for everything we talk about goes to one thing – “the news.”

if there was actual journalism, almost no modern republican would ever be elected again. it’s that simple.

How true is that – since January 2009 every GOP lie has been passed on as truth by the media – all of it – any of it. Breitbart’s latest is a great example. Their website has DELETED their report on Loretta Lynch and Whitewater – but the thousands who picked it up will be talking and believing those lies forever.

Good Morning 99ts! That very thing: incorrect stories being rushed online as clickbait and then deleted, is also a problem because news travels the globe in seconds now. I remember during the height of the Snowden/GG BS, The Guardian (first prize in the “oops, we made a mistake in that huge story that we are correcting in one line of small print now” category) would go front page with GG’s unedited stories. 24 hours later, when they issued a correction, I would see the incorrect headlines still being repeated in mainstream Italian papers.

Hi MadameSoph – you speak the truth below – the separation between news and pundit talking points left town about January 2009. Showing disrespect to a US President started at about the same time. The support GWB got for taking his country to war and crashing the economy stands against the absolute lack of support PBO received for the amazing economic recovery and bringing the soldiers home.

What I remember most is the GOP wanting people to starve rather than get unemployment benefits and die rather than get health care. The US media thinks both of these are great ideas.

“The support GWB got for taking his country to war and crashing the economy stands against the absolute lack of support PBO received for the amazing economic recovery and bringing the soldiers home.”

So well put! May I quote you in communications with friends & family? 🙂

You know 44, as mad as I am at Dems for not shouting PBO’s and their accomplishments from the rooftops, I have to agree. If we just had “the news” and still had actual journalists reporting on things like the economy, stock market, gas prices, foreign policy achievements, etc., the people would know already what had been achieved. We’ve always had opinion-givers, and most of the time they have been conservative or conservative-leaning (I remember my mom angrily changing the channel whenever William F. Buckley was on TV 🙂 ). News anchors have never seemed anything close to liberal in my memory. But at least basic facts about good economic news and world events made it to the broadcasts, papers, etc. Funny thing is, we only had like 4 or 5 nightly news programs when I was a kid, but everyone paid attention. Now there are all of these outlets competing for viewers and clicks, but there is much less fact-based straight news being provided.

But it’s more than just competition for clicks.

Scary as it is, they aren’t simply being oblivious to good news.

The are deliberately suppressing information and manipulating coverage to aid and abet the GOP, because the GOP is literally in control of the media outlets.

Oh no…I do blame the Crats …not gonna take the heat of them at all….their failure for these past 6 yrs. to stand up for this President is UNFORGIVABLE!!!!! Yes,the media is to blame for their so called “NEWS” but the Crats stood by from the moment the teaparty started those nasty rallys..birthcerticate mess, shouting out “you lie” during SOTU,racial tones taken when speaking about the President…they’ve stood by and said or did NOTHING…just plain ole spineless…or maybe they just didnt care…and don’t get me started about the BLACK CAUCUS…what have they really done but get on t.v. to complain..The President won big in 2 national elections with a winning message both times. He actually ran on his record in 2012 .The Crats couldnt even win in their own states…yeah the media tried their dirt during the 2012 election but the President stuck to the script. Wasnt that a blueprint for the Crats…I mean what and why would you dump a winning formula in the trash??? Did they not learn anything from this President…or were they fixated on the Clintons…yeah I think so..and how did that work out…losers for real..almost a wk. later and I’m still MAD!!!
Bottom line is the DEMOCRATS allowed the Rethugs to define the President in a very negative light..stood on the side lines with hands in their pockets and said NOTHING!!

    • November 10, 2014 at 7:02 am

democrats are constantly speaking out. do you ever see an unfiltered press conference from nancy pelosi or whoever on c-span? they are consistently saying the things you want them to say. problem is the filter – “the news” – never lets people see it. even worse, they’ll take snippets out and use them out of context to push their usual lies, such as “democrats in disarray” and so on.

checking out national media sources online this morning- and nada word about POTUS in China. Nothing. Any folks who still watch tv news, please let us know, if his trip is being covered there.

The extended visas with China was mentioned on CBS radio networks news this morning, and is on @nytimes homepage this morning.

No mention on @latimes homepage, surprising since Asian influence in SoCal is unmistakable, and has been for decades. But it is early here.
