I feel like Measure 90 in Oregon is another GOP/Corporation voter suppression tactic. The person who wrote the open primary measure is supposedly an Independent and is selling it as a way for Independents to be able to participate in Primaries. My brother bought that and as a member of the Constitutional Party voted yes on it. My sister-in-law who voted for Hillary in 2008 says the Oregonian favors it as a means not to have two extremes running in the General. That it could bring two moderates up front. I am thinking she thinks Obama is an extreme Left wing of the party causing the Right to oppose everything he does. I argued to no avail to my brother that he would not get to vote in the General election as in today’s elections where not only the Dem and GOP candidates are on the ballot, but every other party is on too. Only two are on the General ballot here. The person starting this measure was mad his Dad’s potential Republican Gubernatorial race was high jacked by the vote split by the other candidates running in the General. When my sister-in-law said “Wouldn’t you want two moderates running?” I said it could end up being two Republicans and I want a policy choice, besides with the unlimited money being put into ads by corporations and the work to suppress the votes I feel this is just another scheme to achieve that through using the Primaries which are voted in by less Dems to achieve that. She did not buy into my theory.

I suspect you are right on the money, Obama Grandmama! Follow the money! This is another way for billionaires like the Orange County right-wing owner of The Oregonian, to control our elections. No way!

    Dear TODers:

A super-huge thank you to all the Dem volunteers here at TOD: Nerdy, who has worked tirelessly in Texas and here at TOD; Jackie Grumbacher, the Salsa the Vote superstar; Donna Dem for her hard work at GOTV and the numerous other TOD volunteers that I have not mentioned. PBO told us that WE are the change we seek. He reminded us that the most important job in the land is that of citizen. You have all answered his call and I, as your fellow citizen, am deeply grateful.

I also want to thank all of you here at TOD: our dear Chips, all the blog tyrants, contributors and lurkers. The information you have shared about key races around the country and happenings around the world, has been a rich resource for me in keeping friends and family informed, uplifted and inspired.

Because of your efforts at GOTV in your communities and keeping us informed here at TOD, I am increasingly hopeful about tomorrow’s election. I have a feeling the MSM pundits will be taken by surprise à la Karl Rove in 2012 🙂 They will, of course, spin this surprise to somehow fit their chosen narratives, but I will know who the real winners are: hard-working Dem volunteers, our PBO, our FLOTUS, their supporters and, whether they realize it or not, every citizen of this country and the world.

No matter what the outcomes are tomorrow, I want you to know that you folks here at TOD have made me proud, kept me sane and given me hope. You ARE the change we seek and, no matter the results of the election are, the Obama Coalition is here to stay!

Thank you TOD! 28 million and counting!

Whoever invented the remote control for my TV set deserves billions of dollars. What a joy to “click” on Chuckie Todd with his map full of yellow republican states and predictions of T-baggerious victories. I clicked so fast that the control fell on the floor.

Prosecutor Claims Perry Threatening Grand Jury After Indictment

The special prosecutor overseeing the charges against Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) claims that the governor has been intimidating the members of the grand jury that indicted him, according to Bloomberg News.

“The defendant’s own words have instilled a concern for all persons who participated in the grand jury investigation,” special prosecutor Michael McCrum said in a Monday public filing.

McCrum also claims that Perry is misusing rules to request that the indictment be thrown out. Perry’s office claims that McCrum wasn’t properly sworn in as a special prosecutor and has tried to use that to get the case tossed.

28M +675 up – this man’s behavior reeks of guilty desperation. May he rot in jail, paid for, of course, by honest, hard-working American taxpayers. Eff’er.

It’s a tad frustrating to see that there are 17 million more Dems in this country. Know they aren’t evenly distributed, but shouldn’t many of these races be a lot easier than currently advertised? I don’t get people not bothering to vote, that disengaged. How can they be that oblivious to how the outcome of these elections affect their lives?

    • November 3, 2014 at 6:05 pm

      Dotster,

I will attempt to provide some explanation.

Our party is the big tent. It includes a lot of people with limited understanding of how government works. And some are born right here in the USA! With civic classes cut out from HS, there are young folks that have no clue how powerful their voices, their votes are. Added to that a multitude of immigrants turned citizens, who passed their exams solely on naming the President, the VP and some other generalities. They are oblivious as to the political machinery. If they vote in local elections, that’s a start!!! These are people that are too busy earning moderate wages to follow politics. And if they have small children, forget it.

These are the people that occupy our tent. Hence, their complete absence from the polls in mid-term elections, or their cynicism as to whether their votes really make a difference. They don’t and can’t see the big picture. Some cannot even take a few hours to vote because that will mean the loss of wages.

Many came out for BO only. Never voted before even though they could, and probably will not vote any time soon. That is the sad reality of a segment of the Democratic voters.

I cannot believe that President Obama and the Democrats are in the predicament right now. Its like this voters out here have ADD and can’t remember what the GOP did to this country and how Obama and the dems tried to clean up their mess!! How the economy COLLAPSED under a GOP government. How they are anti woman, anti worker, anti black, anti-poor anti gay, anti young people. But PRO RICH. How the KOCH BROTHERS and the SUPREME COURT has decided that our democracy is FOR SALE! How womens rights and VOTER RIGHTS are under ATTACK!! Unemployment is down to the lowest since he got elected, Stock Market at Record High, 10 million jobs created, folks have healthcare now, consumer confidence is high, Gas prices have plumetted. I can go on and on. Its like no matter what obama has done, its never enough for the American People, and the GOP is about to be rewarded for TOTAL OBSTRUCTION!! Forget that the shut down the government several times, threatened to not raise the debt ceiling several times. caused our credit to be downgraded, tried to repeal obamacare 55 times, wasted tax payer money on fruitless investigations into bengazhi, IRS. They are barely in town to do any constructive work beside plotting and planning to destry obama. After all that they american people says THROW OUT THE DEMS and give control to the GOP?!?!? I don’t understand! These sorry ass DEMOCRATS running from him like he go OBOLA deserve to lose. They are running away from all that they he has done instead of running on what he has ACCOMPLISHED over the past 6 years is so disheartening. Obama isn’t perfect but to make him out the be this DEMON that everyone including his SORRY ASS PARTY are running away from makes me SICK!! I can’t wait until he and michelle can tell the DEMOCRATS, WASHINGTON, THE DAMN MEDIA, and TEAPARTY REPUBLICANS to KISS HIS NATURAL BLACK A&&!! Then he and michelle can go back to Chicago with is daughters. Washington and this STUPID A&& COUNTRY will never realize what they had until he is gone. He has never had the support that he needed and folks complain why he can’t get anything done.

      Sorry about me VENTING!!

I echo my thanks to everyone who has been working so hard this election cycle. And I know it is frustrating/irritating to continually hear the negativity. But there is an interesting piece on just how difficult this election cycle is for the Dems due to the way the Senate elections are scheduled. In short, this year’s Senate elections are profoundly UNrepresentative of the nation as a whole, and particularly difficult for Dems.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/monkey-cage/wp/2014/11/03/welcome-to-the-most-unrepresentative-senate-election-since-world-war-ii/

And while the Rs may be celebrating tomorrow night, it does not tell them much about 2016. I am holding my breath that all the GOTV efforts will pay off.

Here for a few, then off to GOTV to make some calls. Then one I’m MOST proud of yesterday was an 88 yo man who was very ill and has been in and out of the hospital….he goes to the VA for his care. He told me that his ballot was sitting right where he left it before he went into the hospital and that he didn’t think that he would vote this time ( But he ALWAYS votes on Presidential elections!) I said, “You HAVE to vote! This is such an important election and you need to use your voice…we need you to use your voice. You HAVE TO VOTE!” He hemmed and hawed a little bit…and then I asked if he needed someone to help him with his ballot…if he needed someone to come pick his ballot up for him so his voice would count… He was so happy and grateful that we would do that for him:) I wrote down his info and gave it to the proper person, so she could call and make the arrangements to go to his house and help him. He just couldn’t stop thanking me…made my day.
