The President’s Day

OBAMA-EBOLA

****

****

Barack+Obama+Barack+Obama+Makes+Statement+IFvpvlWzyKAl

President Barack Obama speaks to the media about Ebola after a conference call with USAID workers in West Africa before leaving the White House en route to Wisconsin. The president said the US can’t be seen as shying away from battle against Ebola. President Obama did not directly criticize quarantine policies for returning health care workers implemented in New York and New Jersey. But he says the response to Ebola needs to be sensible and “based on science,” while supporting health care workers going overseas to fight the disease.

❤ This amazing man, our President, who has given his all, every single day, without fail, to awaken in us the understanding and the courage to take on our true inheritance, as citizens of these united states. Before he brought it all to life, before he empowered us by his example, it was only words on paper. Now it shines within each of us, and the humble constitutional law professor has shown us how we each matter tremendously, every day, within our own community. Such a gift he has been, and such a gift he has left us with. May God bless and keep him, and his beloved family, safe and healthy for all their days. Thank you so much, Mr. President Barack Obama. ❤

Nerdy? You’re the Angel Di Maria of TOD. Thank you Legend!!!!!

  4. October 28, 2014 at 11:11 pm

I wonder how many people were at the rally today, including the overflow. Hopefully, everyone that was there of voting age is registered and will vote.

for the video – advance to about 1:25 for Mary Burke who speaks first and then introduces PBO.

    1. Figures he’d think about the food.
    2. What a disgusting piece of horseshit this guy is.

    • October 28, 2014 at 11:35 pm

Of course, he would think food would make everything okay. Didn’t hear Kaci Hickox say that the wonderful food made up for the horrible conditions and mistreatment.

I’m sure the food won’t be making it into her lawsuit, either! What a narcissistic fool Christie is.

        • October 28, 2014 at 11:42 pm

Christie apparently believes that he is telfon-coated. But with “Bridgegate”, Hurricane Sandy Recovery, and this quarantine fiasco, something’s bound to stick.

So wish that NJ’s election had been this year instead of last (could not believe a blue state like NJ voted for this bully):

Hayes never believes GOPers are under water – he uses that expression for dems – when you are so busy attacking your own – you don’t notice the GOP disasters

  12. October 28, 2014 at 11:29 pm

President Obama is on it. I have such a good feeling about this election and this time. In spite of all the noise from the right and right leaning Media I have the feeling this is like 2012 w/Mitt looking stunned when he lost…and lost BIG! More people are going to figure out that the GOP doesn’t know what they are talking about and, yes, like every other time, President Obama does know what he is doing. He’s right. He’s effective. He’s taking care of all of us. Did you see this report:

    • October 28, 2014 at 11:35 pm

…For months, ISIS has been trying and failing to take Kobane. Its recent push, beginning on around September 16, looked likely to succeed. But Kurdish fighters, with heavy American support, have pushed ISIS back. Kobane could still fall, but the Kurdish resistance has shattered the perception of ISIS invincibility — a crucial element of its recruiting pitch….

….The loss of prestige and of personnel compound one another. The more people ISIS loses, the more it needs new fighters. But the defeats make people less likely to volunteer. …

….while American airstrikes are not going to defeat ISIS, they have seriously limited the group’s ability to conduct offensive operations. “Airpower has made it difficult for ISIS to concentrate its forces in large numbers,” Jason Lyall, a political scientist at Yale University and an expert on counterinsurgency, writes via email. “It has made it more dangerous to reposition its equipment and forces, slowing down its reaction times and complicating its command and control. As a result, ISIS is a far more dispersed force than it was in June.”…

Just heard on the radio that the engine on the Antares rocket that blew up in Florida today are Russian made. WTH?

This is what Elon Musk said two years ago:
“It uses Russian rocket engines that were made in the ’60s. I don’t mean their design is from the ’60s—I mean they start with engines that were literally made in the ’60s and, like, packed away in Siberia somewhere.”

    • October 29, 2014 at 1:14 am

this push to have these “private” (most all income comes from government contracts, so i use that term loosely) companies do rocket launches and space exploration seems asinine to me. NASA is becoming more and more a government funnel of taxpayer to profiteers. we’re talking the group that put men on the moon and basically invented space travel – WITH NO PROFIT MOTIVE INVOLVED!

antares was run by a company started by 3 harvard biz school grads in the 1980s. you can be sure they’ve pocketed millions upon millions to cut corners and “maximize profit for shareholders” (which means really rich people getting even richer). how in the hell is further enriching super rich people supposed to lead to better results than NASA of the past and all their invention and success?!?

look, i really like tesla cars and have test drove one and want to own one when able, but that’s another company that’s survived largely from government help (president obama’s stimulus especially), but elon musk, or at least his fan club, seem to rarely if ever acknowledge this help. musk didn’t even start tesla as it was well underway when he got involved. musk’s rocket company spacex can do what it does because of the decades of work NASA has done and all the invention at public universities. president obama often talks about how all these things need to work together, and senator elizabeth warren had her speech about “you didn’t build that by yourself!” that the republicans and “the news” still try to denigrate, and this talk needs to become dominate again, as opposed to all this libertarian hero-worship of people such as elon musk as if the world was in the stone ages until the iPhone, and only once mitt rmoney’s sons and elon musk can REDISTRIBUTE more wealth out of the economy and into their own pockets will we see grey achievements.

one thing i’d debate our president on if i ever had the chance would be why do we even need the profiteering part of the equation at all in some of these issues, such as space exploration and education. these fields were developed and became what they are today without profit motive, so why not go back to that. sure, there can corruption there also, but another beauty of the “public good” model is that there are many more checks and balances to correct problems when they arise. not so in the corporate world. i’d much rather have NASA keep that cash and do what they used to do with it rather than funneling it to millionaires at spacex and orbital sciences to skim yet more profit out of it.

this is the kind of thing that really gets me hacked off about the (almost 100% white) “progressives” today. there are these massive, historical sea changes on various issues, and if it’s not one related to whatever is the most pressing issue in their own minds/lives, they act as if all these huge accomplishments never happened or are not that important because “Snowden!!!!!”

issue after issue, president obama has been creating these kinds of massive historical changes (his election in the first place…hello?!?!, credit card and bank regs, gay rights, troop withdrawals, off-shoring crackdowns, and so many more), yet these privileged idiots robotically respond with “drones!!!” or “gitmo!!” if “the news” wasn’t existing today solely to promote republican propaganda 24/7 (which it is), they would be preparing mt. rushmore right now for president obama’s likeness.
