Off to another phone bank today. With a computer and a phone, you can get set up by your local Democratic Party to make some calls from home. If you can’t get out to an office, think about doing calls from home.

Hey, Chicago friends: does anyone know the story of this Chicago black pastor who is supporting Rauner and claims he got death threats or something? I saw him for a brief minute on WGN this morning. Anyone know anything?

What I heard was awful. First of all, I wouldn’t put it past Rauner to be pulling Rover-like tricks. Second, this pastor must have been promised a grant or something. But there is also a whiny liberal constituency in SOME of the Chicago black churches and the marriage equality haters.

        October 27, 2014 at 12:22 pm

Thanks for the link, forus50. This story shouldn’t have received ANY attention. Absolutely no proof of death threats and absolutely no proof that politics was behind the burglary in question. This is a conservative grandstander who hates teh gays and parlayed a burglary into a political stunt. He’s getting nowhere with this, and WGN – your bias is showing. Big time.

    Morning all.

Just got off the phone with the missus. Her dad isn’t responding to the antibiotics for his cellulitis, so he’s been admitted to hospital. And when he was at the doctor earlier, he broke down crying, thanking him for taking care of him all these years. He’s really not doing well, physically or psychologically. The missus leaves tomorrow morning; hopefully her being there will help him bounce back. Stewie the wonderpup knows something is up; she took him to turn in her timesheet like she always does, and she said he was whining the whole time. Sighs.

We adopted him in 1996. GOP had just begun to turn pure evil – Gingrich tore Congress to shreds and destroyed any comraderie that had existed. The was Clinton Derangement Syndrome, but this was long before impeachment. So, to a skinny little guy who weighed all of 5 pounds when we adopted him and only got to about 10 pounds and was still skinny, storms and tornadoes were scarier than Republicans. He knew better as time went on…….

So, I went to vote locally here, did a wee bit of grocery shopping, then came home and got into a 2+ hour discussion with my teenager in which we both discussed our frustration, annoyance, and anger with each other. I wonder if you guys had realize I’m ‘rude’, ‘judgmental’, ‘difficult to talk to’ (because I use the silly argument that I’m the adult), and ‘unreasonable’ without setting me straight. Sigh! There went a healthy portion of my day off!

Now, tell me what you guys all did here in the village πŸ˜€ (while I was getting tips on how to improve my personality from a teenager’s perspective.

VC, you will not win – not with this one. All you can do is continue to maintain your boundaries on her and let her know they are in place because you care about her and you want to see her grow up with respect for authority, rules, and regulations.

I’m happy to see that you voted – YAY! πŸ™‚

      • 107 vcprezofan2

Respect for what authority – my lady wants to be treated ‘equally’ and after her serious (though sporadic) efforts to follow the rules have been noted, shouldn’t the rules be lifted? If not, there’s no real incentive to follow the rules. I mean, what’s the point if you’re not going to trust me and give me more freedom to do what I want? I mean, why bother? Ay yi yi! To say we are both frustrated is to encapsulate the situation. Anyhoo.

        Thanks for your support!

Voting was fast and they didn’t even ask for my ID – just checked my voting registration card (that they had sent me in the mail) against their voting list, and crossed me off. πŸ™‚

My heart goes out to you vc……teenage logic we all once had it and thank GOD we had parents who held the line in imposing restrictions. Just let him/her know that they will soon be 18yrs old and legally an adult. At that time they will have complete control over what they do as long as they are financially self sufficient living under their own roof. But at NO TIME will you stop telling them what to do πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ :). I am almost 60yrs old and my mom talks to be like I am 12yrs old.

Thanks, 57F. It’s been one of those days when I might easily have opted for a 4-legged housemate just because their ‘attitude’ might not last as long, AND they don’t speak in riddles.

        • 112 57andfemale
          October 27, 2014 at 2:29 pm

As I’ve always said about my four-legged babies, they won’t borrow the car and they don’t talk back. Well, they talk back but it’s controllable.

My goddaughter is 16. Her parents have made sure that she has other adults she trusts so she has alternative adults to talk to. Until she hit high school, if one parent was golden then the other was bad. Now they are both the dumbest, most awful, lack-of-understanding worthless people she’s ever met. Okay, they figured she’d come to me or her aunt with whom she is very close.

We have all become the dumbest people on the face of the earth.

Take a deep breath, know in your heart and mind you’ve raised a good kid. This, too, will pass.

Reminds me of an old joke (with a good deal of truth): A guy is having a yard sale. A full set of encyclopedias is for sale. The sign reads, “Selling cheap. Teen-aged son knows everything.”
