President Obama hugs nurse Nina Pham, who was declared free of the Ebola virus after contracting the disease while caring for a Liberian patient in Texas, during a meeting in the Oval Office of the White House
Congratulations to Political Junkessa on first. What marvelous pictures of President Obama and a beaming Nurse Pham. The idiots in the GOP need to stop fearing-mongering about Ebola STAT!
.@pdxcityclub Appalled that Dr. Monica Wehby would join GOP fearing-mongering about #Ebola rather than listen to experts @CDCgov . #ORSen
For some reason I think women candidates have a harder time in Mass. Even though Coakley is not a great candidate she can still win this race. Thankfully the democratic party in the state has been working on the ground to get out the vote. Also the pay to play scandal involving Baker and Christie may effect the race.
Listening to Rev Al’s radio show while in my car at lunch today I heard stories of far too much apathy happening throughout the country. We need to work extra hard to GOTV the Obama Coalition. If we are successful we will actually pick up seats in the House and Governors races and maintain control of the Senate. It Can Be Done!!!
Donna, tomorrow is another day of Dem action in PA and I’m hitting the streets. Will come back with an update. All I can say is that apathy does not apply to our local Democratic party, which has been working hard to elect our governor, congressional candidate and state rep.
We had health professionals come right here to my job last Friday and gave us all (that wanted them) flu shoots. I can’t be getting those grand babies sick this winter 🙂
Expected responses from RW and NRA to today’s shooting:
1. We shouldn’t be using this tragedy for political purposes
2 besides it is too early to talk about it
3 besides, if all the cvafeteria workers had been armed this wouldn’t have happened
4 besides, obviously this was an emotionally disturbed young man and we should focus on MH rather than guns
5 besides, there is nothing to show that making background checks at gun shows or restricting size of magazine or getting rid of assault weapons would have prevented this
6 besides, we said so so nyah, nyah, nyah
Shooter does not seem to fit the usual profile, as described by fellow students—–a freshman boy, popular, appeared happy, everyone knew him, on football team, nice. Only kind of dispute anyone can think of was a couple of days ago when the kid lashed out at someone making a racist comment.
And if we didn’t have such a cavalier attitude toward guns, easy access, and a whole new mindset that everything is life-threatening and should be settled with a gun, no one would be injured or dead today.
Remember when parents and schools were supposed to teach anger management, and methods of conflict resolution? Now – everything is a threat, settled with a gun.
Yes, and guns everywhere, available everywhere now in this gun crazy country. I’m guessing this shooter just grabbed one from home, decided to settle a score of some perceived kind with a gun, in an impulsive moment of anger.
All kidding aside, these healthcare workers put their lives on the line, it is clear that hospital did not prepare them as they should have been prepared. I think the Governor of Texas ought to meet with these nurses to say thank you and show people that there is nothing to fear. But we will see what Perry does.
Seattle Times reporting that another student is dead in addition to the shooter, 4 others wounded, 3 reported to be critical. One student said the shooter was mad at a girl who would not date him and walked up to her table, shot her and others there.
If the shooter was a freshman, how did he get his hands on a firearm?
Dotster, we’ve had this discussion before, but where are the parents in these situations? How could they allow their middle-school-aged son have access to a weapon?
We’ve all been there, the most tumultuous years of a person’s life is middle-school — even model-citizen students probably have at least one incident in middle-school that they cringe and regret.
Sorry araphaho, but let’s not normalize this kind of behavior. Bringing a gun to school to murder multiple people because a girl/boy won’t date you should not fall in the category of normal “middle-school incidents that people cringe and regret.”
This is the direct result of a pathological and abnormal culture of male entitlement with weapons of violence to control and dominate others. It’s no different from the NFL players who use domestic violence as a way of controlling those around them.
So something that has happened since the dawn of time–somebody says no to a date–is now a death sentence. Are girls supposed to just say yes to anyone who asks no matter how they feel? This is the most messed up, deeply disturbed, dysfunctional culture I have seen in this country in my life.
Just a popcorn visit to say Happy Friday! Love these photos of the President with Nina Pham and her family. I also love the photo on the previous thread of V.P. Joe and that caption! Hilarious!
#QuarentinetheTardis wins for most hilarious hashtag!
And that pic with the poor cat listening to the folk music couple had me laughing out loud!!
Most of all, I love this President! How awesome to invite Ms. Pham and give her a hug!
That’s one of the huge differences between PBO and the Bush/Cheney admin (and the current MSM): President Obama is always taking actions and leading by example to help the people remain calm, centered and moving forward, rather than using fear and hatred to manipulate the people.
57, that is the question of the century! How did Americans become such blithering idiots and allow someone as utterly brainless as this Ernst person to come anywhere near the Senate of the United States. We have had some looney tunes senators in our history, but this one seems to top the moron chart.
What’s particularly terrifying is that this kind of idiocy is becoming the “new normal”. I will forever blame John McCain who in essence told the country that any idiot was worthy of high public office. And yet he has the gall to pontificate to PBO or anyone else.
Food additives very likely, but brain research shows too much television has a hypnotic effect on children, (I’m guessing adults as well) as the minimized rapid eye movement caused by staring at 2 dimensional space interferes quite seriously with a healthy brain function. This even more so than content of television, but combine all factors and you have introduced mental illness from a very early age. Television was a once-a-week event when we were growing up, and I don’t believe daytime teevee shows existed back then. I’m talking about the 50’s and early 60’s, so not that long ago. (cause I’m not very old yet!)
If guns don’t kill people, people do… then why is it that these people always bring a gun to do their killing and why do the NRA nuts always argue that the best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun? Isn’t the good guy a person? Aren’t they sufficient to go kill the bad guy without a using a gun? I mean it’s people not guns that kill, right?
A sheriff’s spokeswoman says an assailant has shot two sheriff’s deputies in Northern California after shooting an officer and a bystander in a neighboring county.
Placer County sheriff’s spokeswoman Dena Erwin tells The Associated Press that two of her department’s deputies were shot by the same assailant who is suspected of shooting a deputy in Sacramento County earlier Friday.
She says a woman who was a passenger in the vehicle with the assailant has been taken into custody.
Sacramento County spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Bowman says the suspect earlier shot a civilian when that person refused to give up the keys to a vehicle.
Bowman said the first deputy was approaching a suspicious occupied vehicle in a parking lot when he was shot.
The condition of the deputies was not immediately known.
I am hearing that she might have rebuffed his request as his girlfriend.
Another story is that on the last 2 weeks, he had experienced some form of racial bulling, per a freshman who played football with the gunman.
To what are you referring, Linda? I got here just now (reading from the bottom) and have been trying to locate the story you and Nena referred to, without any luck.
Looking in from the outside – the GOP’s stupid fear mongering about ebola is nothing more than a GOTV campaign aimed at the stupidist of their supporters.
President Obama urged Georgia voters to get behind Senate nominee Michelle Nunn in an Atlanta radio interview, as he tried to boost turnout among Democrats in key races.
“If Michelle Nunn wins, that means that Democrats keep control of the Senate and that means we can keep doing some good work. So it is critically important to make sure that folks vote,” Obama said Monday when he called into a morning show on station WVEE-FM.
I don’t think I have a problem with this. The key here is that if someone had contact with an infected patient and then comes to the US they probably should be quarantined for the 21 days only because the fear-mongering and media obsession has driven people bonkers over this NON-epidemic here in the states.
If the states or their employers are footing the bills for 3 weeks……then, I am all for it. If not, there maybe some hardship for some.
Doctors many be fine financially……nurses and aide workers may not be as financially secured.

Cochran’s Appeal Falls Flat
Senator Thad Cochran attended a rally in Jackson last night to promote his support among black voters. According to eyewitnesses, the crowd was very light, disinterested, and there was a lot of food left over. I would like to proudly point out that Democratic candidate Travis Childers had more people than that attend an event for him in Rankin County several weeks ago.
“I certainly am hopeful I get support from the black community,” Cochran said after speaking to a sparse crowd of about 40 at a block party in his honor in downtown Jackson. “… Soliciting votes from all segments of the community. That’s what my practice has been since I first ran in ’72 (for the House).”
Cochran may have solicited their votes, but when it comes to policy to help black citizens, his record is quite shoddy. Let’s keep in mind what has occurred in Mississippi since Cochran has been in office since 1973.”
Today….the Media was all about Ebola. Then Nina Pham was released and is Ebola Free, they went for the school shootings. In Sept or Aug, there were 2/3 shootings in 3/4 days and the Media hardly mentioned them. Now, 3 policemen are shot in CA……the media is ignoring that too. Hmm?
I thought Fridays were No News days…..but rather, known as Dump days?
Media can’t properly tell stories with too many BREAKING NEWS?
😎
PpppppppppppPPpppppppPPpppppJJJjjjjJJjjjjjjJJjjjj!!
Whatcha know, Boss? Totally random check-in and there it was — a brand new post just waiting for meeee. *turns up*
Beautiful pics from our Calm-Cool-Collected-in-Chief! Best wishes to Nina Pham and her family.
May the hysterical, deranged, unhinged crew see this and seeeeeeethe.

These photos are so beautiful!! Thanks so much, Chips.

Hugger In Chief. Great pix of POTUS and Nina.
I’m waiting for Governor Rick Perry to meet with Ms. Pham, let’s see how long that takes.
I had my flu shot yesterday at the Kaiser clinic. Didn’t pay a nickel. Wait time of five minutes.
We had health professionals come right here to my job last Friday and gave us all (that wanted them) flu shoots. I can’t be getting those grand babies sick this winter 🙂
Isn’t your daughter expecting twin girls as well?
At my age, I can’t afford NOT to get a flu shot.
Our building has a clinic set up for next week. All signed up.
Nina Pham and her family – have you ever seen such beautiful women?
Just got back in from early voting for Kay Hagan.
Brava – thanks for sharing anniebella, and hope that many many more Dems like you in NC have done, or will do their part to ensure a Hagan win.
Yay, Anniebella!
I’m starting to get after family and friends about early voting. We have till November 1st.
Done!
and a flu shot too
Too mean? Too crude? I have no patience for b.s. today.
No, I actually think you are quite correct in your observation!
Expected responses from RW and NRA to today’s shooting:

All the people who has such outrageous FEAR from ebola, were is the FEAR from gun violence?

Exactly, dotster.
Gov. Rick Perry to meet with Nina Pham in 21 days.
Good One, anniebella!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
HAHAHAHAhahaha….you crack me up anniebella.

The reason we have no Surgeon General is because he said ” Guns are a public health issue. ” Rand Paul needs to release his hold.
Absolutely! Have tweeted him to do that. Bet he blocked me.

OMG.
How tragic for everyone involved.

Washington State has a gun safety referendum on the ballot in November.
It is looking very good to pass.
Everyone can stop worrying, that man who fell into the upholstery machine is fully recovered.
groan……..
🙂

For our dudette!! Ya gotta love Leonard Nimoy!
Holy shit – Joni Ernst actually said she was cancelling the interview with the Des Moines Register editorial board because they were mean to her?!?!?!
Yet they brandish their guns and this makes them strong?!?!
How did so many Americans lose so many brain cells?

Um, wondering where to sign up for a hug like that from PBO? ❤ 🐻 🙂 So good Nina Pham is well, what a courageous woman!
Shooter with his bday gift——a gun.
He used a 9mm Baretta semi automatic pistol according to msnbc

Good news stories, of a sort, out of Detroit.
For you Illinois voters…
The other student that was killed is female.

How can that be legal ?
State can mandate a quarantine.
Remember Duncan relatives? Ebola is an epidemic in 3 nations in West Africa. It is legal.
Hello TOD.
Great Pictorial post. Oh Happy Day for Nina Pham.
