For some reason I think women candidates have a harder time in Mass. Even though Coakley is not a great candidate she can still win this race. Thankfully the democratic party in the state has been working on the ground to get out the vote. Also the pay to play scandal involving Baker and Christie may effect the race.

Listening to Rev Al’s radio show while in my car at lunch today I heard stories of far too much apathy happening throughout the country. We need to work extra hard to GOTV the Obama Coalition. If we are successful we will actually pick up seats in the House and Governors races and maintain control of the Senate. It Can Be Done!!!

Donna, tomorrow is another day of Dem action in PA and I’m hitting the streets. Will come back with an update. All I can say is that apathy does not apply to our local Democratic party, which has been working hard to elect our governor, congressional candidate and state rep.

Expected responses from RW and NRA to today’s shooting:

    1. We shouldn’t be using this tragedy for political purposes
2 besides it is too early to talk about it
3 besides, if all the cvafeteria workers had been armed this wouldn’t have happened
4 besides, obviously this was an emotionally disturbed young man and we should focus on MH rather than guns
5 besides, there is nothing to show that making background checks at gun shows or restricting size of magazine or getting rid of assault weapons would have prevented this
6 besides, we said so so nyah, nyah, nyah

Shooter does not seem to fit the usual profile, as described by fellow students—–a freshman boy, popular, appeared happy, everyone knew him, on football team, nice. Only kind of dispute anyone can think of was a couple of days ago when the kid lashed out at someone making a racist comment.

And if we didn’t have such a cavalier attitude toward guns, easy access, and a whole new mindset that everything is life-threatening and should be settled with a gun, no one would be injured or dead today.

Remember when parents and schools were supposed to teach anger management, and methods of conflict resolution? Now – everything is a threat, settled with a gun.

        October 24, 2014 at 3:51 pm

Yes, and guns everywhere, available everywhere now in this gun crazy country. I’m guessing this shooter just grabbed one from home, decided to settle a score of some perceived kind with a gun, in an impulsive moment of anger.

      OMG.

      How tragic for everyone involved.

If the shooter was a freshman, how did he get his hands on a firearm?

Dotster, we’ve had this discussion before, but where are the parents in these situations? How could they allow their middle-school-aged son have access to a weapon?

We’ve all been there, the most tumultuous years of a person’s life is middle-school — even model-citizen students probably have at least one incident in middle-school that they cringe and regret.

      • 45 hopefruit2
        October 24, 2014 at 5:06 pm

Sorry araphaho, but let’s not normalize this kind of behavior. Bringing a gun to school to murder multiple people because a girl/boy won’t date you should not fall in the category of normal “middle-school incidents that people cringe and regret.”

This is the direct result of a pathological and abnormal culture of male entitlement with weapons of violence to control and dominate others. It’s no different from the NFL players who use domestic violence as a way of controlling those around them.

So something that has happened since the dawn of time–somebody says no to a date–is now a death sentence. Are girls supposed to just say yes to anyone who asks no matter how they feel? This is the most messed up, deeply disturbed, dysfunctional culture I have seen in this country in my life.

      My guess is food additives…….

      • 60 MightyPamela
        October 24, 2014 at 5:22 pm

Food additives very likely, but brain research shows too much television has a hypnotic effect on children, (I’m guessing adults as well) as the minimized rapid eye movement caused by staring at 2 dimensional space interferes quite seriously with a healthy brain function. This even more so than content of television, but combine all factors and you have introduced mental illness from a very early age. Television was a once-a-week event when we were growing up, and I don’t believe daytime teevee shows existed back then. I’m talking about the 50’s and early 60’s, so not that long ago. (cause I’m not very old yet!)

If guns don’t kill people, people do… then why is it that these people always bring a gun to do their killing and why do the NRA nuts always argue that the best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun? Isn’t the good guy a person? Aren’t they sufficient to go kill the bad guy without a using a gun? I mean it’s people not guns that kill, right?

A sheriff’s spokeswoman says an assailant has shot two sheriff’s deputies in Northern California after shooting an officer and a bystander in a neighboring county.

Placer County sheriff’s spokeswoman Dena Erwin tells The Associated Press that two of her department’s deputies were shot by the same assailant who is suspected of shooting a deputy in Sacramento County earlier Friday.

She says a woman who was a passenger in the vehicle with the assailant has been taken into custody.

Sacramento County spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Bowman says the suspect earlier shot a civilian when that person refused to give up the keys to a vehicle.

Bowman said the first deputy was approaching a suspicious occupied vehicle in a parking lot when he was shot.

The condition of the deputies was not immediately known.

President Obama urged Georgia voters to get behind Senate nominee Michelle Nunn in an Atlanta radio interview, as he tried to boost turnout among Democrats in key races.

“If Michelle Nunn wins, that means that Democrats keep control of the Senate and that means we can keep doing some good work. So it is critically important to make sure that folks vote,” Obama said Monday when he called into a morning show on station WVEE-FM.

I don’t think I have a problem with this. The key here is that if someone had contact with an infected patient and then comes to the US they probably should be quarantined for the 21 days only because the fear-mongering and media obsession has driven people bonkers over this NON-epidemic here in the states.

    Cochran’s Appeal Falls Flat
Senator Thad Cochran attended a rally in Jackson last night to promote his support among black voters. According to eyewitnesses, the crowd was very light, disinterested, and there was a lot of food left over. I would like to proudly point out that Democratic candidate Travis Childers had more people than that attend an event for him in Rankin County several weeks ago.

“I certainly am hopeful I get support from the black community,” Cochran said after speaking to a sparse crowd of about 40 at a block party in his honor in downtown Jackson. “… Soliciting votes from all segments of the community. That’s what my practice has been since I first ran in ’72 (for the House).”

Cochran may have solicited their votes, but when it comes to policy to help black citizens, his record is quite shoddy. Let’s keep in mind what has occurred in Mississippi since Cochran has been in office since 1973.”
