I just love seeing FLOTUS gardening with kids! What a wonderful legacy she’s building. These kids will cherish these moments. They’ll be inspired to apply what they’ve learned here in their daily lives and possibly their careers.

OK, I need to scream and holler and jump up and down!!!!

I just had an echocardiogram and my heart is looking very normal!! So I think I’ve finally recovered from that nasty virus that caused pericarditis. YAYAYAY!!!! Next week, I see the pulmonary specialist to check my lungs for any lingering pneumonia. Fingers crossed!! And thanks to TODers for your well wishes. It’s been a tough 5 weeks.

BTW, have you ever had an echocardiogram? It’s basically a sonogram of your heart. Every few moments you can actually hear your actual heart beating. And it’s very weird – it sounds just like a washing machine!!

      Meta, that’s fantastic news!!!
I have had an echocardiogram, and it’s not invasive but can be a uncomfortable. I guess it depends on the tech.
So glad that you are on the mend. Finger crossed that all that nastiness is behind you.

Meta, I need more info. Mr. dote-ster just had an echocardiogram—-spent 3 nights in the hospital—-it was sortof a nightmare—-went because he had a bad cough and couldn’t breathe well—–first told him there was a “spot of pneumonia” on his lung—–then after he told them he was going to Mayo Clinic next week—-for an every 2 yr. appt.—-had angioplasty there 30 yrs. ago—–they got real interested in his heart—-and then white cell count was up and they brought in an infectious disease guy, like he had ebola, or something—-asked if he had been out of country lately—-no, just Wisconsin and Indiana—-so this went on and on with multiple drs. and multiple tests and mr. dote-ster, even tho he felt terrible, just finally wanted out of the hospital. Me too—-hated being there. So in the end said he had pneumonia with possibly some heart issues, sent him off with prescriptions for antibiotics and plaxil and an inhaler thingy that he probably will never use even tho not covered by medicare and costly. White cell count finally went down a little—-they weren’t going to release him until then— and after scaring us with that at the last minute said the high count could have been because he got a steroid shot when he first arrived in the emergency room for breathing difficulties. But now you have me wondering about virus/pericarditis link.

      • October 14, 2014 at 5:52 pm

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear about Mr. Dotster. Hope he’s feeling better.

I had sudden chest pain and a lot of difficulty breathing. It came on suddenly and my doctor advised emergency room. They took x-ray, CT scan, blood tests, ekg. Put me on IV for pain. Dr. came in a couple of hours later and said I had pericarditis & pneumonia. Pericarditis is an inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart. My problem was caused by a virus. Doctor said someone probably sneezed on me. (UGH) I was put on antibiotics for a week and anti-inflammatory drug for 4 weeks. Very slow to recover. Pain lasted for a while and shortness of breath took about 3 – 4 weeks to get over. Just the last 3 or so days, I feel like I can take a deep breath without discomfort. I also had a problem with very low blood pressure throughout all this and had to go to urgent care a couple weeks in due to pain and light headedness. I lost my appetite, really had zero energy up until about a week ago. It was very scary and tough to feel so out of it. I’ve been very, very fortunate to be a very healthy person up until this event. I’m so grateful to feel better.

        Hope this helps.

      • October 14, 2014 at 5:53 pm

Oh, I should also say I never had a cough or any fluid or phlegm whatsoever, so my pneumonia was kind of odd, I think.

        • October 14, 2014 at 5:57 pm

I forgot, they also asked me if I’d had any contact with anyone from another country and did a TB test on me. Then because it was taking me so long to recover from the discomfort, they did a series of auto-immune disease tests to see if I had that kind of problem. WHEW.

            October 14, 2014 at 6:14 pm

Thanks for all the info, meta. I neglected to say that I am very happy for you and your excellent news. There are similarities, but mr. dote-ster has had a cough. And it’s plavix, a blood thinner, he was prescribed, not plaxil. He’s gone to work the last couple of days only because he has Oct. 15 deadlines tomorrow, but he still feels weak and terrible, discouraged. I do think there are some new bad bugs out there.

A Republican Missouri lawmaker said that she meant “no ill intent” toward President Obama when she asked on her Facebook page if the U.S. military was able to oust the president.

In a Facebook post last week, Jefferson County Recorder of Deeds Debbie Dunnegan referred to Obama as “our domestic enemy,” according to a screenshot published by Progress Missouri.

“I have a question for all my friends who have served or are currently serving in our military … having not put on a uniform nor taken any type military oath, there has to be something that I am just not aware of. But I cannot and do not understand why no action is being taken against our domestic enemy. I know he is supposedly the commander in chief, but the constitution gives you the authority,” she wrote in the post. “What am I missing? Thank you for your bravery and may God keep you safe.”

Dunnegan, who is up for re-election in November, said that her question was taken out of context, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

“Something innocent and simple got twisted into a disaster because it’s an election,” she said. “I meant no ill intent toward the president. I meant no ill intent toward anybody.”

The Media were eager and willing in 2004, to have Tom Daschel form SD defeated. They trashed Daschel and called him out as obstructing GW Bush.

Yet, here is an indisputable Obstructionist, embodied in Mitch McConnell…….from KY…….and anyone looking at the Media today would conclude that Grimes was the Incumbent and McConnell, the challenger.

What we do know is that the Dems have an excellent ground game. A ground game that pretty much has beat whatever the Kochs may or may not have had in 2012 AND 2013, and I project similar for 2014.

So we can rest assured that Grimes is getting the support she needs. If you go on her Twitter TL, you will see that her campaign has shattered fundraising records- doesn’t sound like a struggling situation to me…

    • 144 forus50
      October 14, 2014 at 5:21 pm

I can’t disagree with Josh – I think Dems are latching on to a talking point that is just that. One, I haven’t seen a Surgeon General do shit since Surgeon General C. Everett Koop! Seriously, the position is pretty much just a bully pulpit that his 13 successors haven’t used. Most people would be challenged to name even three of them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surgeon_General_of_the_United_States

Two, the surgeon general answers to the assistant secretary for health, who answers to the HHS secretary Sylvia Burwell. I think it’s fair to say it’s not critical or POTUS and others would be bringing this up regularly particularly if they thought he was critical to the Ebola situation.

I agree that McAngry mentioning a czar is beyond stupid but I think it’s a red herring to suggest we are at any risk not having this position confirmed. It would be more useful for Dems to beat up on Congress to restore funding for vaccine research that is very critical.

      • 145 Nena20409
        October 14, 2014 at 5:29 pm

Having more Voices out there is better……Too many positions are Not filled due to GOP Obstructionism……Repeating those until coverage is given is at times, needed.

      • 146 57andfemale
        October 14, 2014 at 5:35 pm

They can’t yell for a czar (oh, wait – PBO appoints too many czars) when we don’t even have a Surgeon General. The Surgeon General is vitally important at a time of a national health “crisis” (this isn’t a crisis, it isn’t an epidemic, it isn’t an outbreak, but that’s another story).

Those are the policy reasons the Surgeon General should have been approved by now and doing his job. But what is driving many of us crazy is that the Dem’s are not seizing the opportunity to put GOP on its heels, remind the people of the political games being played at the expense of public health. Twitter’s doing a good job, but are Democratic candidates making this part of a referendum on heartless, ineffectual governance on the part of the GOP?

Whether it’s the big deal we think it is, is irrelevant. We can’t miss opportunities to re-frame, and Josh just wasn’t very helpful.

Tout le Beltway is a’twitter about this commercial that Wendy Davis ran in her race for governor of Texas. The commercial makes the point that Greg Abbott, her Republican opponent and the state’s attorney general, who is confined to a wheelchair after being paralyzed in a freak accident for which he sued and won a massive, $10 million settlement, has spent his whole career in office advocating against the kinds of lawsuits that made Abbott rich. (Here’s Abbott suing to overturn the Americans With Disabilities Act, which was signed by that RINO bastard from Texas, George H.W. Bush.) It has been a tough campaign down there, but, for some reason, the Davis ad has allowed Abbott to gin up a firestorm in the mainstream media about what a terrible injustice has been done to him, Greg Abbott. Outside of the wingnut blogosphere, Aaron Blake of The Washington Post got the ball rolling, and Ben Dreyfuss in Mother Jones turned in the mother of all misinterpretations, missing the point of the ad by a mere half-a-continent or so. There’s barely any room on the fainting couch, what with all this bipartisanship.

We will set aside all discussion of whether the commercial was worth the candle politically; Davis has been less of a candidate than people thought she would be, and remains likely to lose the election. And we will set aside the simple argument about whether Abbott’s actions in office make him a hypocrite. The Davis ad is an important one because it strikes at the heart of what movement conservatism has made of the Republican party, which once was the party of the Pure Food and Drug Act, trust-busting, the Interstate Highway System, the Clean Water Act, and the EPA. Over the past three decades, however, beginning with that epochal moment when Ronald Reagan said, in his first inaugural, that government was the problem — not if you were a defense contractor, one thinks, or a mullah who wanted missiles — the Republican party has profited uniquely from a massive internal contradiction that would have given a less well-funded institution the blind staggers.

(((((((((((( To a very precious and beautiful soul, Meta. I am so behind on the family news. Just read your great news of recovery)))))))))). I am so grateful that you have great news. I just had an echocardiogram last month. I have to have them every year for my condition. I have also a leaky valve, but had a very good report from this last month. My cardiologist whom I love has a great tech, and she is very precise and gentle. I just tell her I am ready to do what we need to do so proceed. She just laughs.

I will make sure that I try hard to keep up with news that I am missing. Meta, please take good care of yourself. You are so right to be very careful to not get a virus as you stated. I have jump back if I am out and someone coughs etc., My cardiologist has always told me to make sure that I am careful who I am around and I stick to that very much. Any little virus came put me out of commission for a nasty while.

Be careful and know that I will keep my beautiful meta in my thoughts and meditations. I am finding that I am missing a lot as I read lately. Plus I have been in so much pain while trying to do too much. Stomach cannot take it, and my heart immediately kicks me hard to say, no.
