      Why, yes, first.

I logged on to ask if any TOD folks watch The Walking Dead.
      It is a fabulous show.
      Not About Zombies!

The walkers, as they are called in this incarnation, are the least interesting thing about TWD.

From the first one you see til now season 5 the walkers change very little.
TWD is about the characters ability to maintain hope and optimism in a world gone terribly wrong.

The survivors make choices about what it means to be human. What are the values that count?
They stay alive being strong and smart and realistic. The greedy and selfish do not survive for long.
The cast is multi everything: racial, ages, ethnicities, sexual preference. The production values are very high. Big budget.

If anybody had told me a few years ago that I’d love this show I would have called them insane. But here I am. Live and learn.

My 23-y/o granddaughter is a major fan of The Walking Dead. She’s been doing the countdown to the first episode this season – for months. I recorded it for her here (she had to make sure her son was asleep before watching) and when the show ended last night, she said, “I feel like crying.” Had to ask if she needed a hug! Ha.

Thanks for this response, jacqueline. I will be 72 at the end of this month. Quite an age-range—your 23 year old gd and a very senior citizen.
At the end of last night’s episode I was relieved and cheering, though. Maybe gd’s tears were of relief?

They were. (About the rescue of the baby!) I mentioned your first comment to her, and she sounded as though she were going to cry again!

Chips you know how I loathe CW but I have been looking all morning for a transcript of his speech and from what I’ve seen he didn’t say anything about the President or telling people not to vote (as posted here earlier). He did tell the youth that the older generation of leaders needed to listen to them more. His showing up there IMO was for show as I guessed it would be but I’m still trying to get more of his speech.

I can imagine if it was indeed Anti-Obama as some have suggested that he will be front row and center on cable today or tomorrow. So far I haven’t been able to find anything on this.

      The investigation continues…….

      • October 13, 2014 at 1:18 pm

Hiya Donna. I didn’t read what he said at all, just saw a bunch of tweets saying he encouraged people not to vote because both parties are corporate tools, bla bla bla.

        eg

Will have a look to see if there’s a complete transcript.

          October 13, 2014 at 1:37 pm

Yep I saw this as well which is what sent me on the hunt. This is all I’ve found so far. Nothing about telling people not to vote.

“The older generation has been too well adjusted to injustice to listen to the younger generation. The older generation has been too obsessed with being successful rather than being faithful to a cause that was zeroing in on the plight of the poor and working people. Thank God the awakening is setting in. And any time the awakening sets in it gets a little messy.” http://www.politicususa.com/2014/10/13/ferguson-october-young-protesters-reject-message-delivered-older-religious-leaders.html

This may have been characterized as a hit on President Obama but it isn’t explicitly stated in this line. I just wish we would stick to the facts. I see a trend that is taking hold and too often gets spread and that is that an author will interpret what someone says to their own liking and it gets taken as gospel when in fact that may not be the truth. I have little to no trust in CW and I question his motives but so far I’ve found nothing that states he said this but it continues to get spread around on twitter….

And I had my reply written Donna:

VC, I am deeply upset by your insinuation that Donna is no longer committed to the cause and is sitting at home filing her nails and eating cheesy puffs instead of working to GOTV in 2014. Are you calling her a slacker? A quitter? Please clarify. Unless you apologize, really really sincerely – like, on bended knee – you’re going in to spam which, today, includes links to sites that promise to make your boobs look like the Himalayas.

                Do it. Now.

Himalayas? There’s gotta be a joke in there somewhere.

                  I’ll wait.

                  • October 13, 2014 at 2:36 pm

There’s a potential range of puns here Jacqueline, but I’ll resist – I don’t want the annoyance to mount and end up losing friends I thought were foreverest.

                    I’ll get my coat.

All looking Good……but would like a serious back to basic science on Contraceptive devices. In the early 1960s, Theologian Scientists and Ethicists in the Roman Catholic Church gave a Yes Go and the Pope, alone said No.

It is time that that foolish decision be changed.

    • October 13, 2014 at 2:11 pm

I wouldn’t get too much hope here. The Vatican is not really changing its teaching, it’s changing its public relations language.

Every time Pope Francis, whom I deeply admire, begins another dialogue, he’s aiming at changing the Church’s tolerance language. (Follow some of his relationships and discussions while in Argentina, and he’s been open to – and willing to express – lots more than is usually the case for a Pope.) I’m particularly glad of that as it impacts the hierarchy in THIS country – the Dolan types, etc. – many of whom still have the deer-in-the-headlights look, many of whom (sorry to say) are waiting for this tolerant Pope to “just go away.” A change in focus and emphasis and tolerance is nevertheless important, and, yet, you are right – the teachings haven’t really changed. Yet. Some people haven’t totally caught onto that last part, so it’s still the honeymoon period, no pun intended. I’m not giving up even this small dash of hope he’s bringing to lots of people, myself included. An old Catholic can dream.

Change always begins with a dialogue.
Centuries ago, those who thought the Globe was round were either killed, or they were mostly jailed and/or scorned.
