    Hi everyone. Happy Sunday.

I am bringing this over since I just posted it.

So, I was phone banking for Charlie Crist last night and it was very interesting to say the least. Some people are nasty. Some people are nice. Some people are funny. It runs the gambit. One guy, before I could finish my little script, he screams at me. “I am a Democrat, I am not voting for that crook. Well, I hadn’t told him who I was calling for yet.

Another one said she did not know who Charlie Crist was. Then she asked what party he was. I said Democrat. No, I am voting for the Republican. It was clear to me. It did not matter the policy or position, she just knew that she was voting for the Republican. OK, then. Then there was the “Don’t call here anymore.” I am not voting for that man.”

Moving on to the one who said to me, I got all his (Charlie’s) stuff here. But I don’t know.

Then there was Henry, my favorite. I asked to speak to him. He says, “this is Henry and who’s calling? I tell him my name and that I am a volunteer for Charlie Crist for Governor. I asked if we could count on his support. Henry: “Of course I am a Democrat, who else would I vote for. We got to get those clowns out.” He went on any Democrat who don’t vote for Charlie can go hang with those clowns. All the while Henry is cracking himself up, which made me laugh, too.

Then I got a lot of wrong numbers and later ended for the evening. Today, I will be recruiting people (I think) to show up for the Veep visit. I am waiting for my coordinator to give me instructions. She did last night. But I don’t quite understand them, so I don’t want to screw up.

Annnnnyway, I hope everyone is having a great Sunday.

Oh I see Hillary will be coming to campaign for Kay Hagan here in North Carolina, I rather see the First Lady come.

    • October 12, 2014 at 10:11 am

Here in Carolina we need to get the African Americans and young folks, the students out to the polls. And FLOTUS can speak to them like no one else can, a hell of alot better then Hillary. But I guess Hagan want to keep her distance from anyone with that last name.

        October 12, 2014 at 10:15 am

There’s still time – so FLOTUS is usually referred to as the closer and if she’s needed, they will ask her to campaign. The same thing happened in Virginia last year for the Governor’s race. Both Hilary and Bill campaigned, and then FLOTUS, VP Biden & PBO were all called in at the very end. And I believe they contributed significantly to McAuliffe’s win by bringing in the minorities, single women and younger voters that the Clintons were not able to bring in.

I must admit, President Obama looks good in a suit. I’ve got a grey suit like that, but the shirt that I wear the buttons are about to pop off because of my stomach which hangs over my belt buckle. Now I’m depressed, I’m going back to bed.

Africa, and all others who phone bank: I want to tell you all how much I admire you! I tried that two years ago, and it is just not something I can do. I know it is very important and am so thrilled so many of you do it. We have voter ID on our phone (landline) and if we don’t know the caller, we just don’t answer the phone. I know many of these unknown calls are political, but since we are senior citizens, some of them are also callers selling devices…..medicalerts, etc., and we choose not to deal. Then, of course, we hear at least once a month on the local news of phone scams being perpetrated on senior citizens. I wonder how many others are like us…..they just don’t answer the phone.

It’s a beautiful day here….we’ve had some rain, the air is clear, the sky is crystalline blue…..we’re having dinner with our daughter and s-I-l, and my husband is sloooooly getting better. The C.diff is gone, but the road to recovery is slow, and not a steady trajectory up. BUT…..he’s SOOOO much better than two weeks ago, and we are thankful. It’s been a long two and a half months, with more weeks to go for full recovery.

I know that every day is a gift.

Morning, carolyn:) You made me LOL.. “voter ID” on your phone….now I know we spend too much time on the issues of our day:) I LOVE making these calls…I could write a book about all the calls I’ve made. like africa, some good, some funny, some nasty. Its not personal…I just move on to the best one..no time for the ignorant haters…the ones that made you smile, or ask your honest opinion and engage you to better understand the issues…THOSE are my favorites!! I’ve changed minds before, just by knowing the facts *and guess where I LEARNED what I know?!)

I have to make more time for these calls…between work and tutoring and family obligations, I am stretched this time around…have to make more time…anyway, your “voter ID” got me laughing. Thanks

LOVE this SUNDAY SWAGGER:) The man MAKES his clothes!! A sack would look good on him… and you put Clooney in the Early Bird?Thecat was right. I needed to get up at 5:30!!

      Morning family…good job, africa;)

LOL!!! That’s what comes from not proofreading…”caller ID” obviously, our minds are consumed by politics!!!

Maybe, my voter ID is on my phone for others!!!!! Thank you for your hard work.

Hopefruit, I really liked your analysis of the VA campaigning and success. It is a good thing to have Hillary campaign for as many Dems as possible, setting the table, and then the clean-up hitters, FLOTUS, VPOTUS, Dr.Biden, even PBO himself bringing it all home.

  22. October 12, 2014 at 10:58 am

Good morning Ms. Chips, Danny and TOD family, I hope all is well with everyone this lovely Sunday morning. Congrats Derbingle on being first.

I think, perhaps, that hospital in Dallas needs to be put on “probation” or whatever status hospitals that are careless and don’t follow protocols can earn.. This is a problem for the Texas health system, not PBO!!!! I fully believe this exposes a real weakness in the Texas system.

When this broke I asked my d-I-l if they used that hospital ever, and she assured me they did not. That was a relief…….you know, these two incidents could mortally damage that hospital and the system that supports it.

Carolyn, As we have all noted before, when you de-fund education and training and you refuse the ACA federal dollars, the hospitals are stressed by overworked, ill-prepared, and underpaid personnel.
No good comes of the GOP’s wrongheaded policies and the GOP/MSM corporate failure of austerity is becoming all too clear.

Why a website defending government? Because for decades conservatives have been demonizing and attacking government and not enough has been done to defend it. We need to recognize that despite its problems, government plays an essential role in promoting the good life for all Americans. When we recklessly reduce and underfund this institution, we are hampering our ability to improve people’s lives and to effectively address our pressing social, economic, and environmental problems.

To see what is at stake in this battle over government, we need only consider how efforts to limit government in this country have caused us to fall behind many other advanced democracies in providing important public services. Most western European countries, for instance, have larger public sectors and do much better in a wide variety of areas, including retirement security, poverty reduction, child care availability, affordable higher education, pollution control, limiting workplace injuries, affordable housing, crime control, infrastructure investment, healthcare access, and much more.
