Thanks To ObamaCare, Happy Dances Are Here Again

CEB

Sharing my Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) recent Happy Dance re: No rate increases for my medical plan for 2015, dental rate decreased, while the Benefit Maximum more than doubled, yea!!). in the last 3 months, I have had a flu shot, a mammogram, and a blood test, all without co-pays. My yearly dental X-Rays scheduled for December is also without any other costs. Finally, the one medication that I take is only 1.81 $ for a month’s supply. When I retired in the summer of 2013, my biggest financial concern was the cost of health care (I am under 65 and single) that I would be directly responsible for for the first time (it was an employee benefit prior to this). It has been manageable so far, thanks, in part, to the ACA. When I received the news that there would be no rate increases for 2015, I was greatly relieved. I love Obamacare and the man who brought it to us. I am always so tickled that the term that the GOPers used as a pejorative, has instead insured that PBO would forever get credit for this law that has begun to transform the health and well-being of our nation.

Poll numbers moving in the right direction in key Ia. senate race, even though the DM Register seems kinda mad about it—–tweeters have noticed that the write-up continued to include (false) negatives about Braley and nothing negative about Palin clone, Joni Ernst. Will all depend on GOTV, as is always the case.

    • October 11, 2014 at 7:15 pm

Hay some good news here in Iowa. All I keep hearing was that FLOTUS call Bruce Braley, Bruce Bailey. Well Senator Braley will be much easier to remember. Maybe POTUS could stop by Iowa.

CBS is trying to be nasty about the First Lady, but they’re getting some effective push-back…

      • October 11, 2014 at 8:04 pm

Oh look there’s a Squirrel. File this under ‘shiny object’ journalism. This snarky tweet from CBS can’t distract from the fact that FLOTUS is the closer for a very good reason – she knows how to GOTV.

I am mad, though, that someone slipped up and didn’t prep first lady on correct last name. Was just watching a little bit of the Quad Cities debate—–until I couldn’t stand to hear Ersnt lie about Every. Thing. She is just laughable. How anyone could consider voting for that detestable, lying tea party extremist, I have no idea. You would have to be clueless about the facts of current issues. Or blindly partisan.

        • October 11, 2014 at 8:43 pm

Look even a professional politician like Bill Clinton made that same mistake and call him Bruce Bailey. No need of being mad, anyone can made mistakes, the fact is this guy got a good speech from FLOTUS encouraging the people to get out to vote. I’m sure Braley would love it if FLOTUS would come again.

Jan Brewer endorsed PBO at the RNC convention in 2012. John McCain praised PBO at a Romney rally in 2012.

These were both egregious gaffes IMO – far worse than FLOTUS’ mispronouncing Bailey’s last name.

I’m thinking that debate performance helped bring out the extremist background of Ernst. I haven’t seen the internals but I’ll bet the RVs have a good Braley lead. It’s the “likely” voter screen that is favoring Rs. Just like in 2012. One good news here is that Dems are leading Rs in those already voted 56%-38%. I remember well that this pollster, Selzer, did a poll for the Desmoines Register just before the 2012 election giving Romney a lead.. Haha. so I don’t give a fig for their accuracy.

Funny anecdote: I was in the TJMaxx store on my way home earlier, I can sometimes find a certain tea I like in there. Was looking over the books and journals, noticed one title, Hard Choices, dust cover rather torn up. Flipped it over, price tag: $15.00. Left it face down. Walked away laughing quietly. 😉

        October 11, 2014 at 8:42 pm

They are not afraid of the MSM – they know that they are more effective on their ground game than appearing on cable TV arguing with ignorant GOP shills like Tweety and Chuck Toad. And with the exception of Manchin and Grimes, and a few others, most of them are not running away from PBO. That’s another MSM LIE!

    • 46 EricFive
      October 11, 2014 at 8:59 pm

I understand the sentiment, but I question the accuracy. We have to face the hard and cold reality that a large segment of the American population is racist against Black people and have an irrational fear/hatred for PBO. These racists exist on both the left and the right, they are Democrat, Republican and Independent. Grimes is not running away from PBO in an attempt to woo the GOP, it is an attempt to get racists Kentucky Democrats and Independents to vote for her. I understand that this reality is unpleasant and unfair, but that does not make it any less accurate. Kynect is popular in Kentucky, but PBO and Obamacare are not. This is true due to there being a large number of racially backward people living in that state who refuse to support a Black President. Those wanting Grimes to lose are being short sighted, imho. PBO certainly wants Grimes to win and if you support PBO and don’t want the GOP to take control of the Senate, it is insane to actually want Mitch fucking McConnell to retain his seat. That kind of mentality is the real reason Democrats lose. The Democratic Party is a BIG tent, and some of the people under that tent are not as racially progressive as you or I would like. These are the folks candidates in deep red states have to woo in order to win.

      • October 11, 2014 at 9:02 pm

“The Democratic Party is a BIG tent, and some of the people under that tent are not as racially progressive as you or I would like. These are the folks candidates in deep red states have to woo in order to win.”

Exceptionally well stated, Eric, as always.

I am certain that President Obama will be thrilled if Dems like SoS Grimes are elected on 4 Nov 2014.

I heartily concur with Eric and Bob on this. President Obama needs a Congress he can work with and that is what takes precedence for me and I think most of TOD.
I’m sickened by the disrespect shown PBO, but I think the way to honor our President is to put winning this election first for 3 1/2 more weeks.

          • October 11, 2014 at 10:36 pm

“… but I think the way to honor our President is to put winning this election first for 3 1/2 more weeks.”

            Agree, Vicki.

We have NO OTHER MISSION than #OWNthe114th.

That is how we honor our President Obama.

Any discouragement of voting for any DEM is a slap in his face.

He’s a pragmatic dude, he knows how it rolls in red states, and he’s tough as nails.

So, folk like Grimes knows her internals, and she’s doing what she knows she needs to do to beat a guy who was willing to risk a 2nd Great Depression just because he hated the black guy in the White House.

I’ve spent no small amount of energy communicating with her and encouraging her to leverage the massive success of KYnect, the recent article by Prof Krugman, etc., but the last thing in the world I’d ever do is encourage anyone to vote against her on 4 Nov (or not Vote).

One of the sweetest moments, for certain, on 4 Nov will be President Obama’s when he watches the guy who’s # 1 mission was making PBO a 1 term Pres, get defeated by Allison Grimes.

Our duty is to make him very happy.

Bobfr that is so true. I remember Rev. Al saying that the Republican Party is trying to sink the ship just to get to that black captain. The Republicans sat on the sideline and didn’t try to do a dam thing to help this country recover from the mess their President lefted it in.Block, sabotage, obstruct, filibuster, shut down the government. And any Democrat or any Independent who will sit home and not go vote against these racists Tea Republicans is freaking crazy.

So long as the GOP/MSM is able to convince the poor White voter that he has more in common with the Koch brothers than he does with the poor Black or brown family that lives across the railroad tracks, the system will gamed and exploited by the 1%ers. It is in their interests that poor Whites stay angry and afraid. This is why the right wing has become so strident in supporting radical policies that cater to their financial backers, they realize that the poor rubes will support any insanity they propose so long as it is marketed as “sticking it” to PBO. The GOP has convinced many of these sad souls that depriving them of healthcare is a great way to “hurt” PBO. Racism and the exploitation of racial anxieties of poor and middle class White folks plays a vital and essential role in maintaining the “capitalist” status quo in this country, that keeps the rich getting richer and everybody else fighting for crumbs.

It has been the strategy of the 1%ers since George Washington;). The only way a wealthy minority can dominate a democracy is by convincing a majority of poor and middle class folks that their interests align. Manipulation of racial anxiety and the existence of a racial scapegoat makes the job a lot easier. The power of being able to say “at least I’m not a n*gger” has kept poor and middle class Whites from rebelling against the owner class. The perceived corrosion of the centuries long White privilege these poor and middle class Whites have clung to is causing the racial freakout the U.S. has been experiencing these past six years. Racial animus has long been a tool used to keep poor and middle class folks angry and distracted, unable to recognize their true enemies.

This photo illustrates what all of the hate is about: a cool, calm, collected and confident Black man striding forth with pride and elegance with all of the tools of the highest office in the land at his command. Power sits on him lightly and he wields it with skill, ignoring and going around the obstructionists to get shit done. He does all of this while being fine and fit. The women love him and the men want to be him. he has a smart, sexy wife who gets more beautiful everyday, lovely, talented and intelligent children, loyal friends, and fans from all over the world. He is scandal free and having a successful 2nd term that the doomsayers predicted would be a failure. The haters have laid traps for him that he has deftly skipped around and they are left empty and looking ineffectual and stupid.

My second baby great grandson lives in another state, so other than photos and videos and phone utterances (since he doesn’t talk yet), I can only piece together that he is totally training everybody, too. His Mommy told me tonight that she thinks he recently “rolled his eyes” at something she said to him, and he’s not quite 11 months old.

So, yes, he’ll fit right in!

😀 More fun times ahead when they get together and g-grand-s #1 gets to pass on his wisdom on how to ‘handle you’ to g-grand-s #2. I have one not-so-young (6yr) friend’s daughter who insists on calling me ‘taxi lady’ because I’ve helped her mom out with a ride a couple of times in the past month. She’s a bit precocious this little one, often making me shake my head when I hear of her antics – her parents are in for a doozy of a ride in a few years! Her mom is already muttering ‘I don’t know WHERE she gets these ideas from’ about some of her antics.
