Angel Di Maria capped off a memorable start to life at Old Trafford after being named Manchester United’s Player of the Month for September by the club’s fans.
The Argentinian playmaker was the runaway winner in ManUtd.com’s online poll, gaining 68 per cent of the votes. The runner-up was fellow summer signing Ander Herrera with 23 per cent, while the other nominee, Rafael, was picked by 9 per cent of voters.
Di Maria was in excellent form throughout his first full month for the Reds. Not only did he open his account with a fine strike in the 4-0 win over QPR and play a part in United’s other three efforts that day, he netted an early goal of the season contender at Leicester City with a stunning lofted finish and then impressed again in the victory over West Ham.
“I am very happy to have received the award but I’ve got to stress that it’s all about the team,” said Di Maria. “I’m happy that my career here at Manchester United has started very well, and I hope that what I’m doing out there on the field is helping us to pick up points and victories.”
I will give you this: the goal di Maria scored today was rather sweet.

Just finished watching Match of the Day 2. It’s amazing that Brits can pronounce the most tongue-twisting German and Polish names, but regularly muff Spanish names. “Angel” with a hard g, accent in the wrong place when saying Martinez, and so on.

I really, really like Sally Jewell, the Sec of Interior. I forget what she did in her previous life, but I believe she is a real steward of the environment. The department’s tweets of beautiful places in the country are truly inspirational.
