    Good Southwest Morning Everyone.

Unemployment cut almost in half since the President took office, steady monthly job growth since 2008 and gas prices steadily going down. In my neck of the woods, we’ve seen a 20 cent per gallon decrease over the last two weeks! Not a bad week, eh?

Chips: So glad your Danny Boy is home safe and sound. And thank you again for the brilliant take-down of Shaun King.

    LL: Brilliant as usual.

Off to have a walk and take advantage of this beautiful day! Peace

Did you guys see that interview the other day of a former Secret Service guy where he confirms their schedule is 2 weeks day shift, 2 week night shift and then 2 weeks training, confirming that their circadianrhythm is often out of whack. That’s one thing that they should look at changing imo. Same with doctors in residency. Studies have shown that there are a higher number of errors when working day/night shifts. These are archaic practices that don’t belong in the highly technical/electronic worlds that these professionals now operate in.

My missus finally had to tell her agency that she wouldn’t work midnight – 8am shifts. They were destroying her. Fortunately, she’s their best nurse, so she can pretty much get what she wants.

Yeah, I couldn’t imagine working nights now – it was hard when I did it for a year when I was 20. And for the Secret Service to switch from day shifts to night shifts every 4 weeks — just for 2 weeks –doesn’t make a lot of sense. Usually jobs that entail 24 hour worker coverage have workers on night shifts for months and months so they can get into a rhythm with their body clock.

      Great comment, forus50.

I’m a big believer in circadian rhythms — as PBO would say, it’s who we are.

Saw a study many moons ago which tested volunteers’ natural circadian rhythms, which for most participants were 25 hours, not 24.

Which explains why non-morning people feel like they haven’t gotten enough sleep in the am. If left to their own devices (without daylight as a natural stimulus, most humans would operate best by staying up one hour later every day.

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/pbs-correspondent-fox-ebola-ignorance

PBS science correspondent Miles O’Brien on Sunday bemoaned the media’s coverage of Ebola, criticizing Fox News in particular.

“I wish everybody could take a deep breath and take a break from trying to pull viewers in by scaring them. And that’s what we’re seeing here. It borders on irresponsibility when people get on television and start talking that way when they should know better,” he said on CNN’s “Reliable Sources.”

O’Brien said that journalists have been hyping the Ebola outbreak and the first case in the United States just to draw in viewers.

“That’s a shame to even say that, and I get embarrassed for our brethren in journalism,” he said

What do you know – nine times out of ten when I’m home I cannot find anything to eat. So today when I’m not supposed to eat, every time I turn around my eye catches something tempting! Grrrr! My lawn is, of course very appreciative of my dilemma since I spent 3?… 4? hours out there for the first time in forever, re-seeding the bald spots, cleaning up leaves, putting them in the compost bags ….. enjoying the cool weather. There’s only so much outdoor enjoyment *I* can handle though. Sigh – tomorrow can’t come soon enough!

End of rant! Off to see what I’ve been missing in the village, and maybe on twitter.

Take care, vc, yard care is dangerous business! I was foolishly weeding under my weeping cherry tree, when it flat out attacked and left me with a great by scratch right down the middle of my cornea, top to bottom. Those plants are vicous and sneaky. Best just to stay in with a nice cup of tea 😉

O-ho, Maryl. That must have been quite a scare which I assume has healed well?

I hear you about yard work and I agree with you too. Apart from my once-a-week cut, most of the time I leave my yard alone. Today was my effort to a) keep the grass low (last time I didn’t cut it weekly, then went out of town for a bit, it literally cost me 150 smackeroos to get someone to shave it, before cutting it!) Also I needed to b) throw some seeds and soil over the bare patches, and c) keep myself away from the food I had in the house. For several hours I was actually able to forget food. 😉

It’s wonderful to see that despite Republicans obstructing President Obama at every turn, the economy has still grown under his leadership. Whenever the Republicans have the nerve to criticize President Obama about the economy, the media should ask what have they done to create jobs. The only answer is absolutely nothing.
