I’ve been reading Rei’s accounts of the erupting Iceland volcano. They are an absolutely amazing people. It’s like the earth is being created new there all the time. She said some of Game of Thrones was filmed near her home and some of The Hobbit was filmed in Iceland. It would be so interesting to visit. Not now of course! Again, those in Europe or traveling to Europe should keep up with information. There is SO2 in the plume and it has reached parts of Europe at different times. The men and women gathering info at the eruption sites are so brave. The pictures are like a different world.

This is one of the many reasons I don’t like @EzraKlein (I know, the article isn’t by him).
Statistics can be skewed to present whatever POV you want.
1) “Asians” comprise most of the world’s population, which includes everyone whose origin isn’t Africa, Europe, or Central/South America. So a pretty big conglomeration of geography, nations and forms of governments.
2) The percentage of Asians in the US was pretty small to begin with, so any increase is can be expected to be in the category of “largest percentage increase of…” whatever.
Where I live, the influx is almost entirely from South Korea. Fifteen years I routinely was the only Asian at a gathering — now I’m one of 10-20% of one.
Japanese-Americans like myself are quickly becoming a minority within a minority, and yet in the 1960s when I was growing up, the stereotype was of “Japanese gardeners.” Immigrants often go into business for themselves in a field that requires relatively small start-up costs.
It doesn’t hurt that the @latimes had a headline on their front page today that said Alaska is exporting oil for the first time in a decade to… South Korea. #AsiaPivot
I was just saying that to my brother that Asians and Hispanics are the fastest growing here in California. With so many Asian women having babies in the USA then returning home these children are American citizens unless the law is changed.
