          Oh, no worries, GG.

I certainly cannot speak for 30 million plus other people, the vast majority of whom have no idea how many Justices sit on the Supreme Court.

But if @latimes is to be believed, Kamala Harris may indeed be waiting in the wings for CA Governor in 2018, as annieb and others here suggested.

On an earlier blog post I read that many want Kamala Harris to be the next AG. After watching Rachel tonight I wonder if we want KH to be the AG? Rachel talked about how rough the GOP have been on both the first Black AG, Eric Holder and the first female AG, Janet Reno. I prefer to save Kamala for the Presidency which I wonder if it would be possible to happen if she were the AG.

            • September 25, 2014 at 10:35 pm

Hi OG, Wouldn’t worry. If CA AG Harris is President Obama’s choice, both she and the President will know what the drill will be. I trust both of them to prevail.

The GOP has failed, totally, regarding suppressing the momentous #Change effected by President Obama and AG Holder, to date, irrespective of all their efforts (and those of their owners and media cheer leaders).

Moreover, the Senate GOP is about to face a genuine nightmare. Whomever President Obama nominates will be a powerful advocate for civil and voter rights and an ardent enforcer of corporate and environmental laws.

Moreover, if I gambled (which I don’t, on anything), I’d be very reluctant to wager that anyone other than Eric Holder will be US AG until after 20 Jan 2017.

                Wouldn’t THAT be funny!

The GOP is so dysfunctional that I think even the MSM is bored (or perhaps bewildered) by the lameness of GOP attacks.

My first thought when I heard that AG Holder would announce his resignation today was: how will the GOP use the rope given to them with this announcement to hang themselves?

I’m certain PBO and AG Holder have gone through all the possible GOP reactions to this announcement and have a plan in place that will trip them up for the mid-term elections.

Kind of like what is happening now with the offensive against ISIS.

Unless the game is rained out, tonight will be Derek Jeter’s last MLB game.

Although it seems to me that the Yankees have had a lock on being in the playoffs/World Series for the last 20 years, they were apparently a real mess when Jeter was discovered by a Yankee scout in 1991.

The listing of managers over a 5-year period before Jeter came on board were:
    BillyMartin
    Yogi Berra
    Billy Martin
    Lou Piniella
    Billy Martin
    Lou Piniella
which doesn’t sound like a thriving franchise (chaotic is probably closer to the mark).

I HAVE NO WORDS ANYMORE FOR THIS LOSS…IT’S GOING TO TAKE A LONG TIME TO GET OVER LOSING AG HOLDER…HIS LEGACY IS THE INTEGRITY HE GAVE TO THE DOJ…MAY GOD DEEPLY BLESS AND PROTECT HIM AS HE JOURNEYS FORWARD…THOSE WHO SHARE HIS FUTURE CALLING WILL INDEED BE BLESSED BY HIS EXAMPLE.

  15. September 25, 2014 at 8:54 pm

Bottom line, all those #KOCHSTERS and assorted other #Teabaggers, #rwnjs, etc. spewing their hate at AG Holder are going to come to a hard stop when President Obama announces his DoJ nominee whom I have every reason to expect will be a fire-brand civil rights, anti-inversion, anti-corporate corruption champion.

Always be prepared to get your wish; otherwise, you’re a fool.

Couldn’t ask for better weather — the hottest day of the week was yesterday (almost 100F where I am) but tomorrow’s forecast is 80F high, 56F low. It’ll be in the high 70s over the weekend and then warm up to the 80s on Monday.

Of course, not even a CHANCE of rain. Over the summer, there was only one morning (in the past week or so) when there was even a hint of moisture on my plants (aka dew). In fact there in NO RAIN forecast in long-range models for the next 3 months (when our rainy season is supposed to begin).

So if forecasts hold, there’s no chance of needing an umbrella until the Winter Solstice — our coolest months are January and February when it can get to freezing at night, but the days are very rarely cold during the winter — almost always comfortable.

If you’re lucky enough to be going to Ventura, it’s almost always 75 degrees there during the day. It doesn’t matter if it’s January or July, it’s always been about 75F when I’ve been there.

Suggestion for a post: Holder’s greatest achievements. What I think he’s done is pretty extraordinary and deserves recognition, especially the voting rights issues and the various settlements with Native tribes.

  35. September 26, 2014 at 6:52 am

U.S. to pay Navajo tribe $554 million in landmark settlementA truly historic moment for native Americans. But Obama has been a President that has been particularly sensitive to Native concerns in a way I’ve never seen any other President ever.

As for channeling his “inner Bubba”. It was Clinton’s inner Bubba that helped Shrub become President. If not for that, I think Gore would have become President. Millions of of people suffered because of that-Gore wouldn’t have gone into Iraq without an extremely good reason.

For some reason, today’s MSM have blinders on when it comes to anything Reagan- or Clinton-related.

WJC acted like a spoiled child when Gore was campaigning — or else Gore was scared to death that WJC’s support would tank his chances of being President. And everything about the 2000 “hanging chad” vote count was an embarrassment to “the World’s Superpower.” Acquaintances from overseas asked “What the heck is going on in America? Are you going to have a President?”

There’s a good chance that Sept. 11th would not have happened under a Gore Presidency — I sincerely doubt he would have let a memo titled “bin Laden likely to strike America” languish in his in-box. And if it did happen, he would have been laser-focused on cutting off escape routes in Tora Bora, rather than invading and pillaging Iraq.

The list of Reagan failures is too long to list here now.

      • 74 jackiegrumbacher
        September 26, 2014 at 7:43 am

Arapaho, all this Reagan/Clinton adulation is a cover for “we don’t like the black guy in the White House.” The efforts to undermine PBO with the public are relentless and they will use every means at their disposal, including faux praise for a man they despised–Bill Clinton. Truth was so long a casualty in the American media that I know longer expect it. Corporate media owners want a Republican ascendency so they can continue to get away with murder. Their interests and “actual news” have nothing to do with each other. Unfortunately, there are still some deeply ignorant people in the US who don’t question what their tv tells them. Ignorance is the greatest enemy of the US and is a more powerful threat to our democracy than any terrorist group.

        • 75 arapaho415
          September 26, 2014 at 7:54 am

          You’re right, JackieG.

And I under the ignorance of most Americans — it’s hard to find enough hours in the day when you’re working and raising a family/taking care of extended family, etc.

But the chart in @JustinWolfers tweet about inequity in America should cause even the most die-hard GOPer to pause.

You’d have to go back a century for the adage “the rich get richer” to be as true as it is today.

Non-elite Americans know they are not getting ahead — annual pay raises are paltry (or non-existent) and forget about the return on “savings” accounts — less than 1% is a joke.

Yesterday I heard some businessman/economist on the radio who warned of job losses because the LA City Council voted for a $15 minimum wage for hotel workers (for hotels with more than 300 rooms).

This is their argument? That hotels which charge $200plus a night for a room would allow their rooms to be unattended because of a minimum wage for those who pamper guests and provide sparkling clean lodgings? Laughable.

I am glad these workers will be paid more. I can ‘t image Hilton leaving a $300 a night room unmade that’s laughable. There should be a $15 min statewide.
