It is so sad to see the return of violence in Ferguson. I fear it is going to get worse as I do not expect there will be an indictment. No one who has ever prosecuted cases has seen a spectacle like this before. The prosecutor brings a case to the grand jury advocating for an indictment and 99% of the times gets what she or he asks for. This idea that the grand jury should figure it out on their own is ludicrous. Moreover, while Darren Wilson made his case for 4 hours, who is making the case for Mike Brown if not the prosecutor? It is a sham and McCulloch should be ashamed of himself. But it is also clear at this point that none of these incompetents will resign, including the police chief. The only answer is to get everyone registered to vote and vote out the entire bunch, get a new city council, and then fire the chief.

      Agree with everything you’ve said.

As President Obama said yesterday, “the most important title is citizen.”

Actually, I think she is right on this one. Under the current Congress, no way anything close to a liberal justice could make it through Congress. After the midterms, maybe. If a Dem gets elected in 2016 (which is likely) with a big swing up for the Dems in the Senate (also likely) then it is far more likely.

      • September 24, 2014 at 10:50 am

If my sister had wings she would be a Pelican.
seriously though, The partisan gerrymandering ensures that the republicans will have the house until 2020, next census.
        Just saying.

        • 22 japa21
          September 24, 2014 at 10:54 am

Two things. The House doesn’t get involved in judicial nominations, only the Senate.
Second, if some state legislatures can be flipped to Dem, redistricting can be done before 2016.

        • September 24, 2014 at 10:55 am

Btw – if u look at electoral maps even in presidential years – red states out number blue states.
Democrats win bc of population Hubs vote overwhelmingly for Dems.
Though this is dangerous, as we’ve seen -if some democrats Somehow forget to vote.

SCOTUS can still be filibustered. There is no way we could get a decent justice through this poisonous Senate.

They’re misguided bc of the koch suckers.
They control the media and the public doesn’t do homework.
A public that cares only for reality shows and quick sarcastic one liners, is a public that is purposely disengaged.
That recession really hurt Americas faith in basically everything.

This speech is one that should stand for the ages. It is literally a manifesto of peace and, in giving it, and, most of all, believing in its content, our president showed just why he was awarded the Nobel prize for peace. Nobody on the planet or in my memory could have given a speech this sweeping and this powerful as this incredible man who is our president. I was in the gym when it came on and I stopped, read the subtitles (all you can do in that environment) and wept. In the end, I blew him a kiss for being the president we all love and honor so much. Especially heartbreaking was when he referred to our own troubles and divisions in the USA as in the tragedy in Ferguson. He didn’t clothe himself in self-righteousness. He exposed our failings and admitted them. And, with that admission, he took all the potential criticism of American arrogance and hypocrisy and stood it on its head. An act of real jujitsu.

Thanks Nerdy for the round up tweets, I will watch the speech later. I was out in the dining room talking to some of the Seniors there. They are all upset because K, said we are at WAR. So that translates to boots on the ground. I said if there was, it wasn’t our men going to be there it will be the ME countries to do their share and take care of the problem. Not buying it. CNN, FOX, MSNBC says so. God I dislike ignorant people. They don’t trust POTUS is what it boils down to. Sometimes, I think, I need to just go into a corner and stay there. Sigh.
Have a wonderful day everyone. Shower time.
