Hi Africa, thanks for sharing your experience with us. It is very, very encouraging to be reminded that, as a result of his commitment, character, AND leadership, Pres O is daily touching many, many lives in North America and around the world.

Today’s speech before the UN General Assembly was historic, our president painting the picture of the fundamental choices facing the international community. Perhaps I missed it, but was a vote planned today on the Security Council Resolution he introduced?

Of the dozens of speeches by world leaders, advocates, and movie stars at the UN climate summit on Tuesday, none garnered as strong a reaction as that of the poet Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner. The 26-year-old from the Marshall Islands, a tiny Pacific nation, recited a poem she wrote for her 7-month-old daughter. To a hushed audience, she told of a homeland under grave threat from a rising ocean: “We look at our children and wonder how they will know themselves or their culture, should they lose our islands.”

The Marshall Islands, which sits about halfway between the US state of Hawaii and Australia, is comprised of a set of low-lying, ring-shaped islands, none higher than 6 feet above sea level. The Marshall Islands’ foreign minister, Phillip Muller, told The Guardian last year, “The longer we wait, I’m afraid we may reach the point of no return.”…continued

Take a few minutes to watch this….Her poem begins around the 2:30 mark…the accompanying visuals (w/her poem) are included in the link

See that tweet Chips Chica posted with the video of FLOTUS speaking at the UN education event? YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO GO BACK A COUPLE OF MINUTES [1:34:30] AND LISTEN TO the person who introduced her!!! Clearly, he is not at all enthusiastic about FLOTUS!

    Africa, congratulations on your letter.
So proud of you and equally proud of our President.
It is a beautiful crisp night here in NYC for POB and FLTOUS to enjoy a night out here.
We just love it when they are here. I stay away from the downtown traffic.
It is fun to watch how people come alive here at night in this city. I love it when friends visit and sleep late the next day. They just cannot get over the fact that you can and will find something to do all night here. Some even are embarrassed when they sleep until 12:00. Can you imagine that?
Good night sleepy heads. I am watching HUD(1963) Paul Newman.

Ms. Dudette, I pray all is well.

OMG!!!!!! I can’t believe what I just saw.

I was speechless. That officer appears he is afraid of his damn shadow

      • September 25, 2014 at 12:42 am

To say this is disturbing would be an understatement of epic proportions….I’m still trying to process this 30 minutes after originally seeing the video. I can’t believe this is what it has come to. This cop had a dash cam…what about the 1000’s that don’t?

OMG! That is horrible. Why would someone like that become a policeman? This kind of crap is unacceptable. Police are so afraid of everyone having a gun, yet they never support any actions towards reasonable gun legislation.

Most white officers come from working class families. These are the GOP fear and hate voters. They are uneducated and easily manipulated by old racist stereotypes about black folks and other groups.

I tweeted this out with the following statement “white men r extremely dangerous & NOT fit 4 police work in any community. White men from working class and poor families are more likely to go into police work, which means they are more likely to be uneducated and come from families where fear of black skin is a critical part of their social narrative.

Add to that the fact that apparently the white police chiefs feed into the racial stereotyping and fear of “the other,” then add to that certain other conditions – such as the unfair and drummed-up fines and court costs levied daily on the black community in Ferguson, like it’s a freakin’ bank roll for the city, for example – and it’s the perfect storm. This is not now and never has been what a “civilized society” is supposed to look like.

I know few in TODville will see this, but I’m wondering if the MSM is now turning its back on the GOP?

CBS radio news reports on Obama/ISIS tonight aired reporters who said:
    1) Majority of air raids versus ISIS oil targets were by Arab partner, not the US.
    2) Reference to “Obama’s predecessor to blame” for what’s happening in Iraq/Syria now

Thanks to TODville and @jeffersonobama’s twitter timeline, I got a good sense of how much MSNBC is floundering now.

@jeffersonobama’s timeline is a joy to behold (along with RT’s of people who are now clicking “off” MSNBC).

    Here’s a sampling:

(apparently @Ron_Fournier refers to President Obama as a “pacifist” — yeah, right, that’s why emoprogs @Maddow and @chrislyhayes are in a lather now):

There was brief news today about Miss Ann talking about the GOP’s love of women and “who said we wouldn’t run in 2016”

And then I watched Michelle Obama (and the delightful man who introduced her) at the UN Education event, talking about the issues facing girls/women and how important it is for them to be educated. Not even 5000 Miss Anns could equate to one Michelle Obama. Like her husband she works tirelessly for those who are less fortunate in our world and achieves success in areas that the Rmoney family don’t even know exist.
