Beth Fitzgerald: Sharp Decline In Uninsured New Jerseyans In Wake Of Obamacare, Report Finds

The number of uninsured New Jersey non-elderly adults plunged 46 percent — from 21.2 percent in September 2013 to 11.5 percent in June 2014 — according to a new report Friday from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. According to the report, co-authored by Joel Cantor, director of the Rutgers Center for State Health Policy, and Katherine Hempstead of RWJF, the decrease is statistically significant — and suggests that more than 520,000 New Jerseyans have obtained health coverage since September 2013. “This are the first numbers showing the impact of the Affordable Care Act on the number of uninsured in New Jersey,” Cantor said. “They show a robust response to the ACA.”

Cantor said the survey shows that “People are responding to the availability of subsidies for private plans (on HealthCare.gov) and to the expansion of Medicaid eligibility. It appears that the problem of the uninsured was cut nearly in half since the third quarter of 2013. We can expect the number gaining coverage to rise a bit further this year, as people eligible for Medicaid can still sign up. The next opportunity for other individuals to buy coverage will begin in November, when the HealthCare.gov annual enrollment period opens for 2015 plans.” The state was also very smart to opt for the Medicaid expansion, which is the main reason the uninsured is dropping at a faster rate than the national average. The big increase in federal funds that will be spent in premium subsidies and Medicaid will also help stimulate New Jersey’s economy. Good news all around.”

It is amazing that state after state that signed on for Obamacare are seeing their rates of uninsured drop. Millions of people for the first time in their lives have health insurance. There is no way in hell that democrats shouldn’t win both houses in November.

      • September 22, 2014 at 5:50 pm

As I’ve stated before, they had no way of knowing if the guy was armed and, much more importantly, if he was loaded with explosives. All the ‘halt, halt’ and guard dog stuff may be fine in other situations, but jumping the fence and running toward the WH should buy you a hefty dose of lead poisoning. Period.

        • September 22, 2014 at 5:54 pm

And, as far as I’m concerned they should lower the fence height, not raise it – or institute any other barriers to the general public. Everyone knows what the normative behavior is at a Federal facility, especially the White House, Congress, etc. You violate the norm, you go down. Questions asked, later. BTW, those sharpshooters are so good they don’t have to fire a barrage or do a lethal shot to the head/chest; one bullet to each hip will stop any person.

As a DC native I don’t want to see the WH shut off from the public. I believe no matter who presides in there it is the “Peoples House”. Those 8 years of Bush where everything was shutdown was awful. They permanently closed PA avenue to drivers. I agreed with this decision but there was no WH visits, no State Arrival Ceremonies open to the public and no Holiday visits open to the public. You couldn’t visit the WH gardens or grounds. I don’t want us to go back to those days.

I just want the SS Uniformed Division to do their JOB. Protect the WH from any harm. That’s all they are hired to do. Now Do It!!!!

      x 2

I agree with you, DD. I don’t think US presidents should have to live in prison-like conditions beyond in the WH (beyond the need for constant bodyguards). However, I DO want the SS Uniformed Division to do their JOB. Protect the WH from any harm. That’s all they are hired to do. They can do this effectively without killing every intruder who crosses the line; in fact I happen to believe no-one should be able to get so close without having some dust stirred around their feet! What’s the point of having the WH supposedly protected by snipers, if they cannot showcase their precision skills in a non-fatal display that they mean business?

I’m for them doing whatever they have to do to keep the First Family and the people who work in there safe. The more I hear, I do not like and it seem the Secret Service weren’t doing their job.

THE SECRET SERVICE HAD BETTER BE CONCERNED ABOUT ‘OBAMA’ CARE AT THE FRONT DOOR TO THE WHITEHOUSE…THINGS ARE GOING TO HAVE TO CHANGE THERE SECURITY WISE…THIS IS NOT THE SAME COUNTRY…IT IS FILLED WITH ALOT OF HATERS,EXTREMISTS AND RACISTS…PROTECTING THE FIRST FAMILY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN WH ACCESS AT ANY TIME…WITH THE VIBES IN THE COUNTRY I FIGURED IT WOULD COME TO THIS AND FRANKLY IT IS NO SURPRISE. THE MILITIAS WANT THIS PRESIDENT GONE…WAKE UP PEOPLE AND SECURE THE WHITEHOUSE BEFORE YOU HAVE TO ATTEND A FUNERAL.

OF COURSE YOU CAN ALWAYS THANK THE AMERICAN MEDIA FOR BROADCASTING ALL SECRETS INVOLVING GUARDIANSHIP OF WH PROPERTY…TERRORISTS WON’T NEED A MAP OR A COMPASS!

      • September 22, 2014 at 4:48 pm

        Well said, Sue.

I support transparency… in financial statements. When it comes to intelligence, security, surveillance, I am all opaque. There are certain commentaries or programs that I watch on TV that left me puzzled. In the age of Internet, why put all that we have out there… for the public? Which public??? I am not at all interested in knowing how the Navy Seals got OBL. I don’t want to view a map of the WH floor by floor. For what? Pictures of certain rooms should suffice. The urge to disclose everything for the general public will only satisfy the appetite of wackos and terrorists. They are the ones that have dark plans. Such disclosure will only facilitate their tasks.

I’m having doubts about the Secret Service. I don’t have the confidence in them that POTUS seem too. If the S.S. had arrested this man before, the jumping the fence would not have happen.

      • September 22, 2014 at 5:31 pm

I’m with you anniebella. Maybe these occurrences have happened to previous presidents and haven’t been given the media attention, but they don’t appear to be the elite group we’ve been told they are.

For what it’s worth—-ex-wife of WH fence jumper speaks out—–much of this has already been reported, but—–said he came back damaged from Iraq——was battling OCD, PTSD and schizophrenia, had difficulty getting help from VA……
He had been on meds, may have stopped taking them, had been living in campgrounds and out of his truck for 2 years——what I read from earlier reports. Obviously mentally ill.
And my p.s.—–we have a lot of mentally ill among us—-an epidemic currently. I would say that anyone who jumps the WH fence or tries to barge thru the gates there is probably suffering from some form of mental illness. And anyone who wants to harm the president is mentally ill. And I believe the SS needs to increase security at the WH, hire more agents, stretched too thin, may have been part of the problem Fri. night—–with concentration at south entrance from where Obamas departed—-leaving north entrance somewhat vulnerable—–likely a contingent at Camp David where the Obamas were going to spend the weekend, big contingent in NY for UN gathering.

It’s worth nothing, IMO, Dotster. Should we make allowance for all the insane to gather at the WH with their delusions and their arms? If he’s so obsessive about talking to a president he should go to Texas and look for the president responsible for his tours in Iraq. I would say anyone who jumps the WH fence or tries to barge through the gate there should get something by which to remember the occasion, and I’m not talking death because you can’t remember in death.

    • September 22, 2014 at 8:27 pm

I tend to agree with VC on this matter. And I disagree that anyone who wants to harm our President is “mentally ill.” There are many instances of people wanting to harm presidents for political reasons – has nothing to do with mental illness. Mental illness should not be used to defend people who selectively harbor anger and ill-will towards the President – for whatever reason. Yes, he may struggle with mental illness, but so do a significant majority of combat veterans. And we don’t see them surrounding the WH or other compounds with the intention of doing the President harm.

Finally, I don’t buy that story about the VA not helping him…

    //………………………

From March 2007 through January 2010, Trust Care submitted approximately $20 million in false claims for home health services. Medicare paid Trust Care approximately $15 million for these fraudulent claims.

On Sept. 16, 2014, another patient recruiter, Monica Macias, was sentenced to serve 24 months in prison for her participation in the same scheme.

The case was investigated by the FBI and HHS-OIG and was brought as part of the Medicare Fraud Strike Force, under the supervision of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida. This case is being prosecuted by Trial Attorneys A. Brendan Stewart and Anne P. McNamara of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section.

Since its inception in March 2007, the Medicare Fraud Strike Force, now operating in nine cities across the country, has charged nearly 2,000 defendants who have collectively billed the Medicare program for more than $6 billion. In addition, the HHS Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, working in conjunction with the HHS-OIG, are taking steps to increase accountability and decrease the presence of fraudulent providers.
