Mayor Rahm Emanuel backed off Thursday from naming a new elite high school after President Barack Obama amid ongoing criticism from African-Americans who felt the honor inappropriate for a school slated for a wealthy, predominantly white part of the Near North Side.
Instead of naming the new school after his former boss, the mayor indicated he would consider other names for the selective enrollment high school set to be built near the site of the former Cabrini-Green public housing project just northwest of downtown.
“Over the last few months, my team has listened to questions and concerns from the community, ranging from location of the building to the naming of the school. We take that community input seriously, which is why – as we continue to look for a thoughtful way to honor President Obama – we will look for other possible names for this future school,” Emanuel said in a statement.

That wasn’t the only beef about the new school’s location, however. Powerful far South Side Ald. Carrie Austin, who represents part of the Roseland neighborhood where Obama worked as a community organizer before getting into politics, said she told Emanuel shortly after the announcement that the name was a problem given where it would be built.
“If they’re going to name a school after President Obama they should put it somewhere else,” Austin said Thursday. “Either in Roseland, where he got his start, or in the Hyde Park area, where he lived and has a home. To put it (on the near North Side), that just doesn’t look right.”
The White House fence should be made higher to stop people from climbing over. That should be an easy fix. The constant breach of security is troubling and scary.

For those who don’t understand the background of the happenings in the Kansas Senate Seat, here it is:
Roberts, the Republican, is very unpopular.
There is an independent in the race, who, in polling, if only a two-way race, was smoking Roberts.
Even if it was a two-way with the Democrat, Roberts would win.
So, the Democrat dropped out of the race, but the Kansas SOS was going to force the Democrat’s name to stay on the ballot, hoping enough people would vote for him to let Roberts win. They took it to the Kansas Supreme Court, who voted unanimously that the Democrat did everything he was supposed to do in order to take his name off the ballot and ordered his name off the ballot.
Then, after the Kansas Supreme Court made their decision, SUDDENLY, the hard Deadline that the SOS said was for the reason for the court care, became not so hard. Mofo LIED and said he had received a waiver from the Justice Department to move sending the Military Ballots a week – which simply was not true.
Mofo is demanding that the Democrats choose someone to put in that spot, and they are telling him to go phuck himself.
First became aware of this possible situation because of BooMan alerting me to that Sam Wang believes that if Roberts loses in Kansas, the Dems have an 81% chance of keeping control of the Senate. That percentage has since gotten larger.

For those who don’t understand the background of the happenings in the Kansas Senate Seat, here it is:
Roberts, the Republican, is very unpopular.
There is an independent in the race, who, in polling, if only a two-way race, was smoking Roberts.
Even if it was a two-way with the Democrat, Roberts would win.
So, the Democrat dropped out of the race, but the Kansas SOS was going to force the Democrat’s name to stay on the ballot, hoping enough people would vote for him to let Roberts win. They took it to the Kansas Supreme Court, who voted unanimously that the Democrat did everything he was supposed to do in order to take his name off the ballot and ordered his name off the ballot.
Then, after the Kansas Supreme Court made their decision, SUDDENLY, the hard Deadline that the SOS said was for the reason for the court care, became not so hard. Mofo LIED and said he had received a waiver from the Justice Department to move sending the Military Ballots a week – which simply was not true.
Mofo is demanding that the Democrats choose someone to put in that spot, and they are telling him to go phuck himself.
First became aware of this possible situation because of BooMan alerting me to that Sam Wang believes that if Roberts loses in Kansas, the Dems have an 81% chance of keeping control of the Senate. That percentage has since gotten larger.
the desire to give citizen some amount of freedom to approach The People’s House probably influences the nature of the WH perimeter fence;
I also wonder if the fact that the family of the lady who rammed the WH gate & was later shot dead, is suing the US SS and DC Police, has some bearing on the caution and choice to shot intruders
The First Family, of any party or term, should be off limits….period. SS is paid to protect “them”, not intruders. It should be a federal crime to put or appear to put in danger, anyone who resides in the White House. Where should the line be drawn? I say never. Shoot.

WASHINGTON — House Republicans on Friday replaced the firm handling their lawsuit against President Obama after the lawyer representing them pulled out over what was said to be political backlash among his colleagues at the firm, Baker Hostetler.
The lawyer, David B. Rivkin Jr., had taken the case on behalf of House Republicans in August, right after they voted to sue the president, accusing him of overstepping the powers of the presidency. Two people with knowledge of the situation said Mr. Rivkin withdrew from the case under pressure after facing criticism that he had taken on an overly partisan lawsuit. Some members of the firm feared the case against Mr. Obama could drive off potential clients and hurt Baker Hostetler’s credibility, according to one of the people with knowledge of the case. Both people said they were prohibited from publicly discussing such a delicate case.
With Mr. Rivkin’s withdrawal, the House Administration Committee signed a new contract on Friday with William A. Burck, co-head of the Washington office of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan. Mr. Burck had served as outside counsel for the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform when House Republicans sued Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. to produce documents related to the botched gunrunning investigation known as Operation Fast and Furious.
He also represented Maureen McDonnell, the wife of former Gov. Bob McDonnell of Virginia, in the corruption trial that ended this month with her conviction on nine counts.
