Ferguson, Mo., police officer Darren Wilson testified Tuesday to the St. Louis County grand jury that is investigating whether he should be charged in the shooting death of Michael Brown, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Wilson testified for nearly four hours, according to the newspaper, which cited “a source with knowledge of the investigation.”

Yes, and I have concluded that Nate Silver has a vested interest in depressing Democratic turnout and changing the outcome of elections. Dr. Wang does not in my opinion. Libertarians like Silver and Rand Paul are not trustworthy people in my estimation.

Trendy NYC Hotel Confuses 3 Black Women Out for Drinks at the Bar for Prostitutes

By Eileen Shim 3 hours ago

…AlterNet recently reported about three black women — one lawyer and two educators — who went out for drinks at the Standard Hotel in New York City a few weeks ago. After a man approached the women and offered to buy them drinks, a security guard reportedly accused them of being prostitutes and asked them to stop soliciting. According to AlterNet:

“After the security guard ushers the brotha away, he comes over to me and my friends and says, ‘Come on, ladies. You can buy a drink but you can’t be soliciting,'” Washington told AlterNet in an interview. “We were like, ‘soliciting?’ He said, ‘Don’t act stupid with me, ladies. You know what you’re doing. Stop soliciting in here.’ We were like, ‘Soliciting what?'”

Shocked, she asked the security guard if he was accusing them of prostitution. “Don’t act stupid with me, you know what you were doing,” Washington recalls the guard saying.

“Dude, I’m a lawyer and these women are educators,” she said in reply. “Why the hell would I be in here soliciting prostitution?” Washington said he answered, “I don’t know but that’s what you’re doing.”

TOD favorite Chris Cillizza says Dems now have 51% chance of holding on to the Senate. Anybody believe him?

    • September 17, 2014 at 2:01 pm

When GOP shill Chris Cillizza says anything about the Dems/PBO – the reality is almost always much better that what he says. So in that case, if he says that D’s have a 51% chance, it means that their chances are much higher – more like the 90% that Sam Wang predicts…

    • 35 Nena20409
      September 17, 2014 at 2:03 pm

Note just 10 days or so ago…..this Lizard was saying that the GOP had 95% chances of holding the Senate.

Would Lizard care to explain his 44% swing? Well it will be 44% + 5% = 49% swing?

    • September 17, 2014 at 2:58 pm

I’ll go with Sam Wang’s 70%, much better record than the lizard.

      • September 17, 2014 at 4:16 pm

I thought Wang’s most recent was at 90% – but if not, I stand corrected! I’ll take the 70%. Sure beats the 35-40% that Little Nate has been peddling all year…

So glad I was able to view this live, including the introduction and reception afterwards.

I wish the majority of non-RWNJ Americans (i.e., exclude those 24% of Americans who believe the sun revolves around the earth) could see this speech.

The President’s prime time address last week had such a somber and serious tone, very Presidential.

But most busy Americans have little knowledge of the geography and the various ethnic, religious and national interests of the Middle East, which is complex even for Foreign Policy experts who are paid to know such things.

Since it’s such a complex and enigmatic problem, I think most Americans react with their gut when it comes to the horror of the recent murders of Westerners by ISIS. They know it isn’t right, and they want revenge.

If such Americans could see the President’s speech today, they would be struck by his reception at the speech, accompanied by the soaring patriotic songs. And how he touched on the human aspect of the military throughout the speech.

After viewing this speech, this thought might occur to them:
When was the last time an American President was greeted in such an enthusiastic manner when he was essentially deploying some of them on life-threatening missions (to West Africa and Iraq)?

I just now was able to watch his speech. Masterful, and CLEAR!!! What do people not understand about no combat troops in Iraq???!!!

When he finished, my first thought was: “I cannot imagine anyone else as president!” In big contrast to 2000-2008, when my constant thought was: “I cannot believe this man is President of the United States!”

There is no liberal bias but the campaign to convince America of that non-existent fact was highly successful. It became an accepted reality. Being “liberal” became a bad thing, something shameful, when its very definition is the opposite—–generous, tolerant, big-hearted, charitable etc. This should never have been allowed to happen—–there should have been a strong push back—–to correct the misleading, false accusations.

    • September 17, 2014 at 3:25 pm

“Mohammad Javad Zarif: Yes, there is every reason not to have a nuclear bomb. If you look at Iran’s security environment, in the immediate neighborhood—by the immediate neighborhood I mean the Persian Gulf—we are already, because of the size, geography, resources, human resources, military ability…we are the strongest. By far. Most stable country in the region. So we need to go out of our way to convince our neighbors that we don’t have anything against them. We are engaged in confidence-building measures with them. So, not only do we not need a bomb for our immediate neighborhood, a bomb, or even a perception that we have a bomb, will further deteriorate our position, because immediately, our neighbors will seek security assurances from outside. So what we consider to be a conventional superiority that Iran certainly has in the region, if we try for strategic superiority, we will even lose our conventional superiority.

In the larger security environment of Iran—that is, against the threat by Israel or the United States—Iran cannot imagine to engage in any type of deterrence, either directly or even through proxy, with these external threats, or extra-regional threats, through a nuclear device, because we cannot compete in that area.

Again, a nuclear bomb will deteriorate our security. And at the end of the day, let me just make one point, that nuclear weapons have not created security for anybody. Just look at what happened to Israel.”

They never seem to know when to keep their mouths shut and what to reveal. Have I ever told you how much I hate the US media? [Bobfr, not sure if this was posted in earlier threads or this one, but thought you’d find it interesting. Methinks there’s overreach here by Vlad.]:

MOSCOW (AP) – The arrest of a Russian telecoms and oil tycoon has sent shock waves through the country’s business community, with some fearing a return to the dark days of a decade ago, when the Kremlin asserted its power by imprisoning the country’s then-richest man and expropriating his companies.

The criminal case against 65-year-old Vladimir Yevtushenkov marks the first attack on a billionaire businessman since the arrest in 2003 of Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the former head of Yukos, which was the country’s largest oil company at the time. He spent the next decade in prison on tax evasion and misappropriation charges and saw his company taken over by the state and sold in pieces.

The prosecution of Khodorkovsky had sent a clear message to Russian oligarchs: stay out of politics and your property will be safe. Russia’s rich have followed that rule for nearly a decade, and now fret the unspoken promise may be void.
