All summer we’ve had a series of little pigeon (squab) births in the hanging basket on our back porch–same couple, lots of offspring. Yesterday, for the first time, one of the little squabs came back after leaving the nest. The father pigeon flew back and scolded the lazy one, then flew away again. But the little one is stubborn. He/she likes the nest and that’s that. Of, course, if it doesn’t forage for food, life in my hanging plant isn’t going to seem so sweet.
This one is looking for his room in the basement. Good luck to him. 😀

I love (nearly) all of God’s creatures — but I draw the line at six legs, LOL — and mosquitos — I can’t describe how much I loved Alaska, but their mosquitos are the size of pharmaceutical capsules and they outnumber warm-blooded creatures about a million to one.
We’re nice to spiders in our fam, mostly because of this fave kids book, Be Nice To Spiders. Daughter just reported yesterday that she trapped a spider in her bathroom in a paper cup and transported him outside instead of smashing him. She was “Nice to Spiders”.

So…. I watched the hours long hearing yesterday with Sec Hagel and General Dempsey and all the media got out of it was a response by General Dempsey to a hypothetical question ? War by ” What If ? ”

Linda, there has never been a day that the US media hasn’t shown new levels of dishonesty and incompetence. They are paid to be stupid and misleading.
I don’t think any of us are naïve enough to think that there will NEVER be a situation where the US will find it necessary to take military action that includes “boots on the ground”. We also know that one thing President Obama values is diversity of opinions. His administration [National Security team] is not comprised of a bunch of yes men; therefore, there will be times that opinions will be offered that are contrary to what the President may want to do. *If* a situation arises where a member of the security team believes that boots on the ground should be considered, I’m sure the President will consider it along with all the other alternatives available. How he decides to act will result from considering all the input that he has received. It has happened before.
So any media tizzy because they think they’ve found someone in the President’s administration that disagrees with what he is doing [i.e., his foreign policy] is just wishful thinking on their part.

is just wishful thinking on their partis a clear example of ignorance, or a definite lack of understanding, of the President’s MO.’IMO >>Frankly, they have operated so long on the level of either this or that, war or no war, and have no (instinctive) depth or insight, that they have become like robots. Their ‘talking points’ have been honed into templates and I do believe that’s all most of them hear. PBO speaks a foreign language to them, so they sit and pretend to listen; the words buzz around and over them, and only the phases they understand settle/stick. Then when it’s their turn to speak they build a story or narrative around the couple of phrases *they* understood.

I have to think though that the ignorance or lack of understanding is deliberate. The ignorance comes from their unwillingness to pay attention to what the President has done or said in the past. If they did, they would know how the President interacts with his staff and those things that they are trying to label as a negative for the President is, in fact, the way he operates and a part of the reason for his success.
The lack of understanding comes from their refusal or inability to move away from the talking points they are tied to. Because they are unable to exercise independent thinking — or to *think* period — they are blind to the reality that President Obama’s administration and management style is not a cookie cutter of previous administrations where staffers who were not 100% in lock step with them were considered a threat. And like you say, VC, they are so honed into the template, the talking points have become their reality. They have become so robotic that even a debate is impossible because their rebuttal is always the talking point that has been given to them.

I’ve noticed that many news items seem to originate from the same source. No deviation. No additional information [i.e., no additional research]. No conflicting information.
It’s dangerous and sad that these “journalists” and news organizations, with all the resources at their disposal, cannot seem to go beyond that central source — a biased source — for their information and are comfortable simply regurgitating the biases of that given source [amounts to talking points]. I guess real *investigative* reporting is a thing of the past.
/tongue in cheek/ In fairness, many of today’s journalists do sporadically so some research of their own – like ‘Text A for ,,,, and B for …’ or ‘Send me your questions and I’ll choose a few in my interview…’.
