๐Ÿ™‚ << That's the widest smile I can accomplish without showing my teeth. Morning, CC,old girl; very nice it is to see you up and about this morning! ๐Ÿ˜‰ How is the young lad? I haven't seen hide or hair of him in forever! I also missed the tooth story…or was it the tooth fairy?

        • September 15, 2014 at 7:38 am

You missed my tooth tragedy?! Okay, from the start ……. [TOD: “Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!”]

Well I kept getting references, and I’ve figured out that the dentist is to blame for some. thing. but that’s about it. Give me the original link and I’ll go look for myself – no need to stir up the complainers (whom I may soon be joining IF the case doesn’t seem serious enough to merit all the fuss Japa has given you permission to continue).

            • September 15, 2014 at 7:53 am

Summary: A week ago today, I had a tooth stolen from me by a dentist who is kind of a mix between Pol Pot and Vlad the Impaler. And when I returned to TOD, a broken and slightly gummier women, I got very little sympathy, some even suggesting that in the larger scheme of things it wasn’t that big a tragedy. ๐Ÿ™„ And then my elbow was savaged by an unidentified flying thing yesterday and, again, TOD failed me, not a single shoulder to cry on offered. I know who my friends are now, and they’re not here.

              • 8 vcprezofan2
                September 15, 2014 at 8:01 am

But, I don’t get why you would have needed a shoulder to cry on in either instance. Crying would have certainly adversely affected the newly disturbed gums. Lying down for a bit would probably have been a better solution for the loss, and swatting the flying thing, then putting some soothing cream on the elbow makes more sense. IMO crying is overrated. If the elbow is still itching, I’ll check my medicine cabinet to see if I have an unopened tube of Polysporin. That’d be better than anyone’s shoulder!

Wow, DannyO, you have GROWN! Maybe we should start addressing you as Master DannyO?

Wait a minute, did you *dress* you old ET toy? Is that a sweater (home made?) ET is wearing? Did you make/buy that specially for him? I don’t know Chips Chica…forget the dentist and check out the psy……. /bewildered mutterings – an ET toy these many decades later, AND he is dressed!/

            • September 15, 2014 at 7:59 am

๐Ÿ˜† No, no – ET came with that jacket. And he’s a very special ET too, he talks and moves and everything! And if you rub his tummy he says “oooooooooooooh”. The only problem: I never had any clue how to switch him off, other than removing the batteries. So, one day, my mother went to get some vegetables from a store room thingie and when she bent down to pick them up, something moved and said “oooooooooooooh”. And she came running, screaming out of the room. I removed his batteries then. ๐Ÿ˜•

US and Nato troops begin Ukraine military exercise.

About 1,300 troops from 15 countries – including the US and other Nato members – have begun a military exercise near Lviv in western Ukraine.

The US says the drill had been planned before the current crisis in eastern Ukraine, where government forces have been battling pro-Russian rebels.

Clashes have continued in eastern Ukraine, particularly around the city of Donetsk, despite a ceasefire deal.

Russia denies sending troops to aid the rebels, as alleged by Ukraine and Nato.

Over the weekend, Ukrainian Defence Minister Valery Heletey said Nato countries had begun arming his nation in the fight against the rebels.

He did not specify the type of weapons being delivered or name the countries involved.

Durbin has a 23 pt. lead over bazillionaire ice cream guy Oberweis per current Trib poll, with support from all areas of Illinois, making him “nearly impossible to beat”. I think it’s probably pretty safe to eliminate the word “nearly” from that headline. Some sham Repub polling outfit tried to say the race was tight a few weeks ago. They lied. A clue was when it was announced Repubs wouldn’t be wasting any dollars on the Oberweis campaign. Anyone else notice that so many Repub candidates are just bored bazillionaires who have more than enough money for the next 10 generations and decide to try to grab themselves a little power for some excitement?

Calling the computer experts!!! For the second time (last night and just now) my laptop flashed me a blue screen then disappeared! Of course the message contained on the blue screen went so quickly i was unable to read more than the first line of a long message. The laptop then restarted, and eventually put back all the windows I had opened. What’s up with that?

If you have Windows, that is Windows reconfiguring, I think. That happens to me at the worst times, and all you can do is wait it out. Some of my students have had that happen in the middle of class! It seems to be random, but I’m sure there’s a matter of internal timing.

I have a viewing note, if you’re interested. Last night we started watching the new Ken Burns series on PBS: The Roosevelts: An Intimate History. It was very good. New info and some familiar, well presented…..Last night concentrated on TR, since he was first, but also brought in the strands of FDR and Eleanor some. If you can’t sit and watch it this week, and have the capability, DVR or record it for future watching. Meryl Streep is doing Eleanor’s voice.

I was born when FDR was president, so this is really close to me. I saw a brief interview with Burns about this, and he said it took about seven years or ten years to make this…..I forget which. When asked about editing, he said, “I live in New Hampshire. We make maple syrup. It takes forty gallons of sap to make one pint of syrup. That is about the ratio of what we have to go through and discard for this.”

I watched and am DVR’ing it as well. Ken Burns is the best documentarian the first installment last night was excellent! I love watching these historical accounts. I like to find common threads where history repeats itself and apply the politics of yesteryear to today’s issues. Can be both inspiring and depressing. I recommend watching this one on The Roosevelt’s. Well done Mr. Burns!

Does she really NEED to be criticizing PBO? Can’t she just fire her rifle and criticize McConnell – who she’s running against in November? Sheesh…

    • September 15, 2014 at 9:37 am

I know we’ve all argued about this before, any Dem is better than McConnell, etc etc etc ….. but: I loathe this woman. Intensely.

Worse than that, I don’t trust her. You can’t trust any conservadem. That being said, we have to hold the Senate (does anyone really believe she is going to defeat McConnell though?)

Alison Grimes I think Michelle ,Malia ,and Sasha are dam glad you are not Barack Obama. Such a stupid ad, but what do you expect from those Kentucky folks. Why don’t her next ad tell us that she hate Barack Obama, if she had her way Hillary would have won. Watch for that ad next.

    • September 15, 2014 at 9:44 am

Beating McConnell is what matters, although I do not like this woman. Such a disappointment for Kentucky.

      • 88 hopefruit2
        September 15, 2014 at 9:46 am

Yes, beating McConnell is what matters – which is why she needs to keep her ads focused on McConnell, who will be her opponent in November.

    • September 15, 2014 at 9:45 am

You know hopefruit if Mitch McConnell was a shade less poisonous I wouldn’t care who won this Senate race. She gets me with this idiotic Creigh Deeds strategy.

Sadly, she’s doing and saying what you need to do and say if you want to win in KY. Really sad and pathetic…especially considering that if it WEREN’T for Barack Obama, Kentucky citizens would be hung out to die from all their ailments. The ones they got from the coal mines in the form of asthma and black lung….not to mention the drug abuse and the heart disease. What the hell ever, Allison. Seriously…its all pathetic to me. And about that healthcare that you all love now….

She’s taking McConnell’s bait of forcing her to make this about Barack Obama instead of him…

        • September 15, 2014 at 9:54 am

Yes she is. If she’s not careful she might just turn off all the people who need to vote for her

          • September 15, 2014 at 10:08 am

Maybe she knows her fellow citizens all too well but it just seems to me that Grimes is telling them they are so stupid and so racist that she can’t even begin to acknowledge the President in any way. Maybe that’s how she really feels.

            September 15, 2014 at 10:14 am

When Chuck Todd on MTP yesterday tried to make Bernie Sanders say something negative about HRC – Sanders did not take his bait. Instead Sanders said: ” If I run for President I am not going to be running against Hillary Clinton, I will be running against Wall Street.”

So why can Dems/Indeps use this approach for HRC, but not for PBO? Why do they have to follow the GOP/MSM’s lead, take their bait and go on the record attacking PBO just to “prove” that they are independent?

Allison Grimes could have easily said: “Barack Obama is not running for Senate of Kentucky. I am running for Senate, and here’s what I believe in…” This would have been factually correct, kept the focus OFF PBO, and put it back where it belongs – on the Senate race and McConnell.

She did not have to go into any detail about her “not being PBO” or “disagreeing with PBO” on specific issues – that’s so beside the point…

Police officers fanned out across Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday to begin arresting hundreds of accused drug dealers, mounting an unprecedented attack on traffickers who allegedly bring pills from out of state to feed the region’s debilitating drug problem.

The roundup was thought to be the largest in state history, with about 500 people to be charged. By late afternoon, police had arrested an estimated 200 people in more than a dozen counties, straining some jails.

“There is a large roundup going on in Eastern Kentucky, and every (state police) post in Eastern Kentucky is involved,” said Capt. Kevin Payne, commander of the state police drug-enforcement unit for the eastern end of the state.

More arrests are expected Thursday. Most of the people are accused of being street-level dealers and will be charged in state courts, but some face federal prosecution.

One key focus of the investigation is the pill pipeline between Eastern Kentucky and South Florida clinics. Police say it has become routine in recent years for Eastern Kentucky residents to travel to Florida, sometimes by the vanload, to get pain pills.
