Long time no post! Just wanted to share that Mr. Muscatinegal decided to compose and send a fan letter to PBO the other day. He looked up an e-mail address on the Whitehouse.gov site and spent a long evening composing. He was quite proud of his efforts and says he hopes PBO reads it (!) so he knows that we all have his back out here in the heartland. 🙂

It’s amazing Hopefruit, and I’d guess that’s only a tiny representation of his shilling. I would especially love to know what connections he has with the NRA, his relentless campaigning against gun reform stinks, very very badly.

He’s all up Hillary’s “wealth” but he hasn’t had a frigging word to say about Willard R-Money? Or the fact that Willard has built some of that wealth by evading taxes…shipping jobs overseas, laying off hard-working Americans and closing down companies? Hmmm……

This action validates what we here at TOD say: Let the people hear the President unfiltered by the press and talking heads, and they will understand and want to follow him. This underscores why the MSM and pols are afraid of him.

Indeed carolyn. The MSM’s anxiety when this man addresses the nation is palpable…35M people tuned in to hear him.

        • September 12, 2014 at 1:24 pm

“The MSM’s anxiety when this man addresses the nation is palpable…” which is why they worked so hard beforehand to speculate about what PBO was going to say, and have their “experts” give criticism and rebuttal based on those speculations.

I’m worried that Congress will vote for giving lots of latitude to the president so the next neo-con (repub) or neo-con lite (Hillary) in the Oval in 2016 will have the power to wage total war in Syria. I mean, I’m afraid Congress will pre-approve total war. I hope democrats are vigilant on this.

Don’t know if there’s anyone here that saw my comment last night. It was about a post on Facebook — saying that PO uses ISIL instead of ISIS because he and the administration consider Israel enemies……something along those lines. (It was from some right-wing rag.) I responded to her with two comments….told her I had recently seen a good, thorough explanation about the difference between the two and when I found it, I would share w/her. Also said that the article was totally misleading and wrong. Few minutes later, I saw that she had commented on her post. By the time I got my iPad ‘open’ and went to FB, there was no comment from her. She made it, then quickly deleted. Early this morning, I checked and she had deleted the entire post. 🙂 🙂 Hehehe. She wasn’t going to give me the opportunity to call her out any more than I did in the two comments I made. btw, I was very nice. 🙂

This morning, I also responded to my nephew who had a snarky comment with a link on our cousin’s post about how much the deficit is down under PO. He may not even see my comment, also with a DIFFERENT link about the deficit. This cousin (female who lives in NC) used to be a Republican. Boy, has she changed. She shares things on FB that amaze me and make me so proud of her. I later sent her message on FB saying that we don’t really even need to use/provide people/Republicans with charts, graphs, stats because the best way to know how much things have improved is to listen to the Republicans—-how VERY seldom do we hear any of them saying anything about jobs or the deficit or Obamacare or foreclosures or auto industry or energy/how much oil we import or …………..ANY issue. They got nothing and they know it!!!!!!!!! 🙂

Unit 8200 is the Israeli military’s central intelligence gathering body and is often likened to the US National Security Agency (NSA).

The protest letter signed by the veterans of the unit was sent to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and armed forces chiefs.

The newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth quoted the letter as saying that unlike in other countries there was “no oversight on methods of intelligence or tracking, and the use of intelligence information against the Palestinians, regardless of whether they are connected to violence or not”.

“We refuse to take part in actions against Palestinians and refuse to continue serving as a tool for deepening military rule in the Occupied Territories,” the letter added.

“Intelligence allows ongoing control over millions of people, thorough and intrusive monitoring and invasion into most aspects of life. All of this does not allow for normal living, fuels more violence and puts off any end to the conflict.”

The names of the signatories were not published, but they include officers, former instructors and senior NCOs.

And actually, that is important. Part of working with the moderates (which few are by US standards, but by Arab standards they are) is to make Assad consider working out a political solution that is acceptable to both parties so that there can then be a more unified front in Syria against ISIL. Making the moderate opposition stronger is part of that process of forcing him to the table.

    Important Read…..
Will we ever be able to have these kind of discussions as a nation?….
    ***************
Moreover, wars between nations have increasingly given way to wars within nations. The resurgence of ethnic or sectarian conflicts; the growth of secessionist movements, insurgencies, and failed states — all these things have increasingly trapped civilians in unending chaos. In today’s wars, many more civilians are killed than soldiers; the seeds of future conflict are sown, economies are wrecked, civil societies torn asunder, refugees amassed, children scarred.

The US Government does not allow ransom payments to terrorists. Period. Feel badly for the family, but that’s just the way it is and any American, traveling anywhere abroad, must never forget that they are doing so at their own risk, unless they are US Government personnel deployed to serve (in whatever capacity). All deployed US Government personnel know the drill, if captured ransom will not be paid.

      • 136 57andfemale
        September 12, 2014 at 2:28 pm

The government spokesman said just that. Just shy of denying that the family was “threatened with prosecution”. I’m hoping we hear that later.

I feel for the grief of the family; but I’m also tired of U.S. citizens putting themselves in dangerous countries and expecting the U.S. to fix the international incident.

      • 137 hopefruit2
        September 12, 2014 at 2:29 pm

Thanks Bob for posting this. And I will say that this is a very disgusting and manipulative ploy by ABC to mislead people who are unaware of these rules into sympathizing with this family at the expense of support for the US Government. ABC news never stated in the article that this rule exists or has existed for time immemorial. It’s not a new rule, and it certainly was NOT a threat as the article is implying.

    • 138 hopefruit2
      September 12, 2014 at 2:26 pm

I’m taking the ABC reports with a grain of salt – the way this story is framed is just too familiar (blame Obama for Foley’s death) and GOP-esque for my comfort.

On the same note, I find it rather amusing that the media is so focused using these two unfortunate excecutions to somehow blame the Obama administration – when they basically yawned during the beheadings of eight other journalists during GWB’s presidency.

      • 139 57andfemale
        September 12, 2014 at 2:33 pm

It was an interview with the family. I have to agree with Bobfr – you put yourself in harm’s way and not as a U.S. serviceman or employee of the government – you have no right to expect the U.S. to create an international incident.

        • 140 hopefruit2
          September 12, 2014 at 2:43 pm

I understand that it was an interview with the family – but my concern is that ABC News is exploiting this grieving family in order to make it a negative thing about the Administration. The mere fact that they reported this story without telling readers what Bob just said is highly problematic.

If this is a long-standing policy of the US government that foreign-based US journalists are aware of (and I’m assuming they are and have to sign on the dotted lines), then how can ABC news be reporting this as “threats made” by the Obama administration. That is false reporting – regardless of what the family may have said or thought.

          • 141 57andfemale
            September 12, 2014 at 2:51 pm

That’s exactly my fear, too, hopefruit.

ABC was cagey. The “family said” there were threats. The great dodge of sleazy journalists: it’s ‘accurate’ (the family said it was “threatened”). Whether it’s true – that’s not their problem. It used to be the point of journalism – to find the truth.

I’m very concerned about the hysteria that will be come from this. And the “hearings” and the accusations.

What is also undeniably true: PBO put our military at risk to try to rescue these journalists.

            • 142 hopefruit2
              September 12, 2014 at 2:59 pm

Indeed 57 – and since we’re not privy to the actual interview, we have no way of knowing how she managed to even say this. What kinds of questions were asked…whether or not the interviewer knew about the long standing US policy and whether that was discussed.

ABC’s agenda is so transparent with this article – it’s really sad. I wish the family all the peace and comfort they could possibly get at this time, but I do hope that at some point, once they’ve passed the initial stages of grieving/anger/blaming, they will see things for what they really are – and realize who is really on their side and who isn’t.

    • 143 Nena20409
      September 12, 2014 at 2:37 pm

Josh was asked a different question…..but the charges were implied.
Josh didn’t attack the family. Josh answered the question with what the Gov’t has done…..including ordering a rescue……indicating his commitment to Americans everywhere.

I doubt that US threatened legal action. The Gov’t under this president will NEVER deny a family to try to find ways to rescue their loved ones. I can ONLY guess that had the family implied a US connection to this Fund Raising…..then I can see where the Gov’t might have strongly objected.

      • 144 57andfemale
        September 12, 2014 at 2:42 pm

        Josh did good.

Of course, the ABC report is sensational: “Obama administration…..” Maybe there was one official who pushed it too far – MAYBE. A distraught family hears things differently. There is no way the “Obama administration” would threaten this family – no way.

Funny how after the SOTU address earlier this year, the press were quick to let Us know that less than 2M watched.

    Hmm?

Pres Obama addressed the Nation on Wednesday, Sept 10th, 2014. The Numbers are In and those keeping tabs cane also tell Us how many watched on Line……Also…..the Media are always quick to dissect the Instant Polls…..and with their so called Live Gadget driven polls. Hmm?

Had the numbers been lower than those who watched the SOTU, the media would have been obsessing their coverage on the lack of audience.

Their silence is OBVIOUS. They wanted something else and were stomped by the audience. Hence, in the Era of president Obama, The Media Will Not Cover any News that is Not Negative or Against pres Obama.

Thanks LP for posting the Ratings yesterday.
