Our president faces a long and difficult day today and he knows he will get brickbats thrown at him no matter what he does or says. Yet he’ll get up, do his job and face all of this with fortitude and his usual brilliance. I’ve lived a good many years longer than our president, but I’ve never achieved one tenth of this courage. I think if we could all learn to model just a little bit of this relentless commitment we would be an unstoppable force in November.

Excellent points jackie. On my best day, I’m only a tiny fraction of what he is on his worst day…I honestly don’t know how it he does it, and so well – thus it really takes a special kind of malevolence or ignorance to hate or reject this man on any grounds.

I am looking forward to hearing his address this evening.

    • September 10, 2014 at 8:30 am

If he reacted to every *opinion* about the shoulda-oughtas, he would be as batty as McAngry and company…and we would not have the confidence we have in him as CIC. I for one am glad that he is not continuously broadcasting what he is thinking and what he plans to do. We have enough backseat driving from the critics in the media, in DC, and especially from those who should just fade quietly into retirement and stop trying to resurrect themselves.

Everyone should just step back and be the patriots they claim to be by 1) supporting the President, and 2) waiting to hear what HE has to say instead of speculating and then criticizing him for *their* speculations.

Frankly, Hf, I would triple that number back to Lincoln. I know Monica is referring to JFK, but Kennedy never had to face the obstruction PBO has and he had a mountain of personal problems regarding women that would have dragged him down if he had gone on to a second term. In terms of vision, firm moral compass and an iron determination to do right by the American people, there has been no one like President Obama since the Civil War.

      • 100 carolyn
        September 10, 2014 at 9:21 am

jg, agree wholeheartedly. JFK’s problems would have become myriad in a second term, when info leaked out, which it would have. He lived just long enough to become mythic. Thank you for saying that. I lived during that time, and I can remember.
He did some good things, and grew into the job, but, did not have to face 1/10000th of what our PBO has had to face!

        • 101 jackiegrumbacher
          September 10, 2014 at 9:33 am

Carolyn, we both lived through those days. JFK was dazzling, no doubt about it, but he was deeply flawed and that Marilyn Monroe Happy birthday stunt was just flaunting it all at us. My first clear memory of a president is Truman.

        Don’t forget FDR.

His legacy continues in so much of what makes America unique — the infrastructure to support the natural wonders in our National Parks, providing jobs to those in the Great Depression who had no hope of getting one, enacting Social Security, etc.

(My mother was a staunch FDR – Adlai Stephenson Dem.)

Cuomo Result Shows Progressive Racial Divide
    by BooMan
Wed Sep 10th, 2014 at 01:02:03 AM EST

Here are some preliminary numbers on the results from the Cuomo/Teachout showdown:

    The Five Boroughs

    Brooklyn: Cuomo 67% Teachout 30%
    Manhattan: Cuomo 55% Teachout 43%
    Queens: Cuomo 74% Teachout 22%
Staten Island: Cuomo 66% Teachout 30%
The Bronx: Cuomo 81% Teachout 14%

Meanwhile, Teachout won big in many Upstate counties. This is telling for a couple of reasons. Common wisdom is that the Big City is much more liberal than Upstate, but that doesn’t seem to hold for the Democratic primary voter. That’s curious until you look at the how the boroughs voted and you realize that Cuomo did much better in The Bronx (37% black) and Brooklyn (34% black) than he did in Manhattan (16% black). Manhattan is also the home of a lot of Wall Street workers who actually like Cuomo’s brand of centrism. That Cuomo got 81% of the vote in the Bronx (28% white) and only 66% of the vote in Staten Island (11% black) is the giveaway. White progressives who backed the Teachout/Wu ticket did not make any inroads with the black community.

Clinton Allies Portray Her as More ‘Decisive’ than Obama
“Allies to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are casting a stark distinction between a decisive, assertive Clinton and a pragmatic, deliberative President Obama on foreign policy,” The Hill reports.

“As Obama seeks to make the case for military action against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria in a prime-time address on Wednesday, Clinton supporters are saying that she would have approached the battle with ISIS in a completely different way if she were commander in chief.”

She woulda coulda mighthave done this or that there is no way of knowing how Hill would have handled things….I do know she could not weather the constant obstruction and hate that PBO has and be as consistent and steady. She broke down crying in NH after repeated loses during the 2008 primaries she lost her temper numerous times just think if someone yelled u lie during a sou address at her. I think most people wants PBO to avoid war with a bunch of vangabonds.

HUMANS are violent! You think that other sports aren’t violent…only football? You need to be able to separate the game from the reality and the personal morals, values of judgement of the players. This is what they DO for a living, it shouldn’t define the kinds of people they ARE.

And rugby, and mixed martial arts and hockey and water polo and my son’s sport of choice, lacrosse. To blame the sport only on this man’s violence against his wife, is an excuse for him NOT to take responsibility for his actions…it was the SPORTS FAULT that he did this! Bullshit! That’s like using the excuse of “boys will be boys” I HATE THAT! No, boys will be the boys you TEACH THEM TO BE..anything else is a cop out and a piss poor excuse. Not buying any of this. Sorry.

And just because you feel like soccer isn’t a violent sport on the field of play…THE FANS KILL EACH OTHER EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK OFF THE FIELD!!

From the piece…for all the Rush to Bomb Someone/Anyone/Do SOMETHING crowd…

So, remember this: Every time you hear some commentator say America should β€œdo something,” they are reading from the ISIS script. The U.S. can soften up ISIS with strategic bombing to aid the Islamic fighters taking them on. But it cannot beat them by rolling the Humvees back into Iraq or Syria. ISIS will be defeated by its own brutality against the people who might otherwise be their allies. In this case, the enemies of our enemies are truly our friends, at least for now.

ISIS will fall. It is inevitable. That is, unless the United States becomes the stupid one and gives them what they want.

It would be worth a dance in the streets to send this guy packing!

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/kris-kobach-kansas-re-election

Kobach might not quite be Public Enemy No. 1, but his resume reads like a conservative greatest hits of the Obama era. He helped write the 2010 Arizona immigration law that controversially permitted law enforcement to check a person’s legal status with minimal cause, parts of which were eventually thrown out by the U.S. Supreme Court. He instituted a voter ID law once he got into office in Kansas. He also pursued alongside Arizona a legal fight with the federal government over including proof-of-citizenship requirements on federal voter registration forms in his state. He even toyed with Obama birtherism in 2012.

    He needs to go.
