Congrats on 1st Laura, welcome to TOD and please extend our gratitude to your fellow citizens for the warm welcome all of you have extended to President Obama.
A message for Zizi
I saw your tweet yesterday about refusing to canvass for Alison Grimes until she stops bashing the President. I wondered what the President would say to you if he were to call you? I think he would remind you that he’s only going to be in office for the next two years. If Alison wins, she will be in office for the next six years. During that time she would help the people of Kentucky while McConnell would not. The President would remind you that he’s not well-liked in Kentucky and as a result Alison has to distance herself from him. He might say this race isn’t about him; it’s about the people of Kentucky who you have an opportunity to help. This is part of the long game we all have to play to move this country forward. If Alison wins, she will be the junior Senator from Kentucky who won’t get any air time on cable news to bash him the way McConnell does on an almost daily basis. McConnell has hurt and will continue to hurt this great nation with his obstruction. Getting rid of McConnell doesn’t just help the President; it helps all of us who are trying to protect the fragile progress we have made.
I hope you’ll reconsider your decision and go out there and tell voters that Alison will work for them in the Senate to make Kentucky a better place to live instead of trying to destroy it the way McConnell is doing. Do it for the President. Do it for those of us who have no one running for the Senate this year and have to sit idly by while the fate of the nation is decided by people like you. If the Republicans take the Senate and Mitch McConnell is still the minority leader, then we are all in big, big trouble. Thanks for listening.
Good comment. I can understand where Zizi is coming from because I always get angry when I hear Democrats bashing our President. But she definitely is the lesser of two evils for Kentuckian voters.
Tien Le, I fully understand your position, and agree that we need to see the bigger picture – which is giving Harry Reid the leverage that he need with more “Dems” in the Senate. So on that basis, I would support Grimes just to see McConnell out of Senate.
However, I don’t agree that Grimes needs to bash the President in order to distance herself from him. She can promote what she believes in without making it seem as though Obama is the one with the problem – he isn’t. She’s not running against PBO, she’s running against McConnell. The people of Kentucky are the REAL problem with their irrational racism. But that’s for another day.
And then you said this: “If Alison wins, she will be the junior Senator from Kentucky who won’t get any air time on cable news to bash him the way McConnell does on an almost daily basis”
I respectfully disagree and experience over the last 6 years has shown us that this is NOT the case. Junior or not, as long as she’s bashing PBO, she will be given a welcome platform on the cable news. We’ve seen this before with Alan Grayson, Dennis Kucinich, Anthony Weiner, etc…any DEM with an excuse to bash PBO is given HUGE amounts of airtime on cable TV – credibility, seniority, reputation notwithstanding.
I just hope she doesn’t become another useless DINO who is just obstructing and watering down PBO’s legislation under the guise of “concern for the people of Kentucky.” Racism should never be an excuse to not do what’s right.
I agree hf. Although I know Grimes is the lesser of two evils, I don’t give her a pass to bash President Obama. The elephant in the room which is not mentioned in Tien Le’s comment, but is mentioned in yours is racism. Why do the people from that southern state hate PBO? Racism. Plain and simple. Racism keeps the Democratic governor from calling healthcare “ACA” or “Obamacare”. The whole thing is repugnant to me. Yes, I think it’s best for Dems to keep quiet about Grimes. But I don’t have to like it.
POTUS not well like in Kentucky, why is that I wonder? It couldn’t be because of the color of his skin, could it? I can truly understand why FLOTUS was and is not a fan of political game. Part of me understand what Grimes is doing, you have to do what you have to do to get elected, but part of me don’t like it either.
Her interview with Lawrence was abysmal – I truly thought she had given him some pre-recorded statements & he simply added the questions after the event – however I could cope with that UNTIL she made a comment about some of the President’s actions being “illegal”.
Every President since FOREVER has acted in the same way – and moreso – but suddenly THIS President is not allowed executive actions? That is where people were really concerned about what Alison is doing. Everyone wants McConnell to go – but if it is necessary to say such things about PBO – it starts to sound like going from the frying pan into the fire.
I agree. I thought the whole thing was bad, she clearly was going to say her piece regardless of the questions, but the illegal comment blew me away. I was surprised that Lawrence didn’t call her on it. But he does not seem on top of his game since he returned. I don’t think he’s changed any of his views but he doesn’t seem as adept at catching these types of comments. And I don’t get the sense that he simply is letting them slide the way the rest of the MSM seems to do. Just not as sharp and as quick as we are used to with him.
I agree. I saw that interview and had forgotten her “illegal” comment. I know I wasn’t impressed with her. She sounded as though she was taping a political ad. As to Lawrence – he doesn’t seem to have the same enthusiasm. He seems tired. Maybe he’s still recovering. Or maybe just being that close to death changes a person.
I tended to think that Lawrence was just giving her air time – and didn’t really listen to her replies – (which weren’t replies, they were statements). He made a big thing out of “the first ever interview” – and if this is how she reacts to interviews it needs to be her first and last.
I’ve not watched much of Lawrence since his return – given that the accident took quite some time for recovery, he may still be in the recovery stage & not so bothered about politics.
Our team has been having phone banks for Alison since late May. It is hard work, we get a lot of answering machines, people who are too busy to talk about politics, and a few folks who hate the President and thus hate Grimes. We also get supporters and volunteers who carry out work on the ground long after we speak to them. Those calls are what keep us going
I live in a blue bubble. I have never run for office or developed a strategy for a campaign. I choose not to second guess the strategy of those running in red states. It is hard for me to imagine what would work in those areas. Our team has chosen to work for Grimes, Hagan, and Landreiu. I am sure they will do and say things that we don’t understand or agree with. I believe they are doing their best, and trying their hardest.
I am grateful to them for running. I hope everyone who can help them win, will help them. Alison Grimes on her worst day is much better than Mitch McConnell on his best day.
Here in Indiana we supported three congressional candidates in 2008 that were part of Evan Bayh’s Blue Dog conservadem coalition. Two were taken out in 2010 and by then I was really sad to see them go. We had to work for their votes but they were responsive. All three voted for the ACA in the end and that’s probably what did in two of them. The one that remained ran for the senate and won. Now I am finding the same thing, we have to work for his votes but boy is he responsive. Love calling his office too, Really beats the futility of calling my tea party elected congressman at this point.
Don’t worry about Alison Grimes. Get out there and elect a Dem and you’ll see what I am talking about. Its a sea change. You will have to keep on her case about her positions and votes but do it with some appreciation when she votes your way and then she knows you have her back when the GOPer scream at her.
Well said, wiw. I agree with you on the red state strategy. I too used to be on you’re with Obama or you’re with gop kinda thinking. But seeing her poll nos. consistently beating or at least close to beating the corrupt turtle, I am convinced that she and her team must be doing something right. Is racism a big factor in KY? I bet it is. Better to use that to your advantage than leave it to the thugs to frame the issue.
“…In July, two Republican judges on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit handed down a decision defunding much of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This effort to implement Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) top policy priority from the bench was withdrawn on Thursday by the DC Circuit, and the case will be reheard by the full court — a panel that will most likely include 13 judges. In practical terms, this means that July’s judgment cutting off subsidies to consumers who buy insurance plans in federally-operated health exchanges is no more. It has ceased to be. It is, in fact, an ex-judgment….
…OK, so this means that the case will simply get bumped up to the SCOTUS, right? Well, not necessarily:
Two hours after the divided DC Circuit panel released its opinion attempted to defund Obamacare, a unanimous panel of the Fourth Circuit upheld the health subsidies that are at issue in Halbig. Thus, so long as both decisions remained in effect, Supreme Court review was very likely. Now that the full DC Circuit has vacated the two Republican judges’ July judgement, Supreme Court review is much less likely.
Although it is possible that the full DC Circuit could agree with the two judges who voted to cut off health subsidies to millions of Americans, this outcome is unlikely. The plaintiffs’ arguments in this case are weakand are unlikely to move judges who do not have a partisan stake in undermining the Affordable Care Act.”
Look closely at the little girl who is seated to the left of Cameron; she is way more interested in what is going on with PBO than she is with anything that the pm has going on.
On immigration EO? Still, some senate democrats balked at the idea of Immigration reform.
As like it’s so horrible to be fair to Hispanic/Latino population? Oh no…, not that. God Forbid.
Also,I saw on twitter, powerful democrats on Sunday shows beating the war drum. Menendez in Kiev saying we should arm this person and that person with RPGs. And we should give M-4s to everybody in Ukrane.
Then, Lady Di on tv smashing this president for not going to war.
This is crazy!
Thus, Some democrats are moderate republicans.
Sadly !
And our President carries on…two years from now, all these naysayers will be side jokes. Our President will be the one everyone remembers – and in a GOOD way.
Problem is that a good portion of the Washington “elite” are stuck in the past. They believe that the USA can, and should, control the world. That it’s not essential to motivate regional actors to work with the USA, in the short, but most of all, in the LONG term.
They don’t get it. Furthermore, they think one, two years in advance. President Obama thinks five, ten, twenty years in advance. Sometimes, it’s as if he’s the only one, with John Kerry, who understands that things in the Middle East will improve only when the regional actors learn to work together. It’s as if he’s the only one who understands that you have to work on the roots of the problem, even if it means accepting more chaos in the beginning.
It will be amazing if the actors in the Arab and Persian world find themselves solving some of their seemingly intractable problems and the Israeli’s go at each other’s throats over the Netanyahu regime. I never thought it would be this way. Strong arm nuts were in control in this era only of Muslim countries, right.? Now we see a real Bircher enabler in office in Israel backed by the uber right and cheer led by the wacked out Dominionist psuedo Christians and End Times seekers. So very strange.
I thought in Europe many moons ago it was the Muslim regimes that welcomed diversity and learning (if I am correct I am thinking of Spain) while other places staged brutal treatment of the Jews. Maybe we will see the Muslim world beat back its fanatics and take back their faith. I sure want to do that as a moderate Christian with mine.
JUST LOOK AT THAT PBO SMILE….AND I’M LOVING THE LATTER EVENT IN CARDIFF CASTLE…HOPE WE GET LOTS OF PICTURES OF THAT!…LOVE YOU MR. PRESIDENT…KEEP MOVING THOSE SMOKIN’ SHOES …F-O-R-W-A-R-D!
I think I’ll eventually like it as well…….twitter does this to me…make me question my mental state….then reverses said changes before I can get use to them 😀
It makes you feel like a greyhound chasing the rabbit around the track…..make a change and sick with it…. I’ve got bigger battles to wage..not pointing any ☛
My two cents: upChuck has sounded the death knell on MTP. Unfortunately Li’l Russert is upChuck’s mentee — IMO Luke is too lazy (and perhaps dumb?) to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Stunned (in a good way) by Estonian President’s tweet:
🙂 And was looking up something about BuzzFeed and saw GOPolitico’s Dlyan Byers refer to it as left-leaning …. the place that is run by GOPolitico old boys, hired from The Blaze and Free Beacon, is buddies with the Kochs and has McKay Coppins as its main man. Riiiiiight.
Has anyone noticed how BuzzFeed dick Andrew Kaczynski isn’t even trying to hide his politics any more? Relentless anti-PBO/Dem stuff, on top of his defense of the Kochs the other day. And chummy with fellow Koch boy Greenwald too. To think some people thought he was just the cute cat-pics guy.
High praise for the school where my daughter teaches in Indy—–visited by Labor Secy yesterday, called the school a “national leader in the effort to close the skills gap”…..
She’s eating an ice cream cone, which isn’t allowed. Just like skateboarding or going shirtless. Not saying they should be allowed, but the implication is that Kroger thinks eating an ice cream cone in the store is worse than carrying an AR-15.
Hello TOD. So according to NPR, PBO is unpopular in California and across the country; people trust the Rethugs on the economy; people are tired of PBO’s policies. So I need some of you BTs to fill me in. I can’t always be here to comment. Need clarification. This country is loony as hell. Thanks.
No, you got it right. The country is looney as Hell. But I think PBO’s approval ratings are higher than reported. I don’t even look at Gallup any more and check out Rasmussen instead. It is right-leaning and it only counts registered voters. I’ll tell you right now, his approval rating is undoubtedly higher among unregistered voters. And Rasmussen has him at the mid 40’s pretty consistently.
Thanks Japa. It is so damn disheartening when I hear all the vitriole- as though PBO has done nothing at all to move this g-d place forward. If people think rethugs are better at economics, they all have their heads in the sand and/or they simply hate. And any so-called liberals/dems have unrealistic, childlike ideas of how policy happens. We have our work cut out for us in this election, for I fear too many will give up if they don’t understand EXACTLY what’s at stake. The guests did offer that if the election is based on social, we are better off. If money, we are doomed. Go figure.
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 47% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Obama’s job performance. Fifty-one percent (51%) disapprove (see trends).
Note they use likely voters (which tends to lean more GOP) and they also lean heavily on land lines (using on line polling to try to cover the cell phone users. All this tends to distort the results and show a lower approval rating than is accurate.
Part of the reason polls show people favoring the GOP on the economy is that people still don’t realize just how well the economy is doing (thanks MSM) and hear all the time about how the GOP is saying we are doing horribly. Every Dem candidate should be out there making sure people know the economy is doing well and the only reason it isn’t doing better is because of GOP obstructionism.
NPR has shifted “right” in their reporting. They are no longer objective and shill for the GOP. I noticed that since prior to the 2012 elections. They were extremely negative in their reporting of the DNC convention – until the DNC convention happened and blew their bullshit right back in their face…
Right, hopefruit. NPR died a long time ago, 2008, if I remember correctly. That was when their news came to you from the NYTimes.
Radio news in NY is provided by Times or Bloomberg. Bad and worse.
It’s cool and overcast in SoCal (at least where I am) this morning.
Extremely unusual, usually it’s 100F in September, and the Santa Ana winds begin mid-month.
Meteorologists are hedging their bets about an El Nino (lots of rain) this year, but who knows?
It’s definitely the driest spell I’ve seen in my 50+ years in SoCal — except for the evergreen shrubs and trees, the hillsides have not a speck of green on them.
Praying for an enormous snowpack in the Sierras this winter.
I hope it rains a lot from CA->TX, and the midwest->CO. Droughts are killing agriculture & and fostering wildfires. Imagine in the US we have infrastructure(albeit outdated) to address some of these issues, but these water levels can’t be sustained…I keep thinking of places in the world (recently saw a statistic that 80% of girls in these areas don’t go to school b/c they have to travel an average of 3 miles each way to pump water out of a well) that don’t even have that luxury.
Hi arapaho415 I am in SoCal too and this is very rare to be so cool in Sept “the hottest” month of the year. August was not as hot as it usually is for us. I could always depend on it being well into the 100’s through early September, cool down mid Sept until the Santa Ana’s that come in around mid to late Sept into early October then cool fall temps in the low 80’s and cool nights in the 50’s. I am praying for rain our HOA just spent a boat load of money on new plants and trees. The last time they did that in Sept all the plants died due to the heat.
For those on the east coast getting ready for lunch, recommend viewing this 10-minute @Maddow segment last night.
She doesn’t bash PBO, shows footage from the Baltic nations joining hands across their country in 1989 and ends with an interview with former Ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul who says he “liked [PBO’s] the speech a lot.”

In news that we can live without, a bored and ignored Mike Bloomberg announced that he is re-taking the top and fulltime role at Bloomberg inc.
More alarming is that his Bloomberg News division will be getting more of his attention.
BAD news for NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio as Miquelito is bound to embark on a three year long campaign of vengenance. Bloomberg was irate that de Blasio’s campaign as the anti-Bloomberg got Bill 73% of the votes.
Look for 3 years of promoting Eva Moskowitz, the Charter School Witch, who is in full agreement with Michael Bloomberg on funneling all the money possible from public education into her highly profitable charter program. Eva and Mike are Enemies of the people of the City of NY.
Heard on radio this week that such an amount could actually backfire on the workers, as stores may decide to use more automation to keep costs down. I look at how many unoccupied check-out registers are in our supermarkets nowadays, and the numbers are growing. People complain that first- they have to choose their groceries, then- have to bag them as well. The corporatists will always be in total charge unless we the people demand better from them.
We never hear this kind of talk when it comes to corporate profits… IMO .these things are always said to discourage workers from making any kind of demands….from overtime pay to sick time pay…
I would think it hard to automate fast food workers since I can’t imagine customers cooking their own burgers or corporations automating the process just so people could continue paying the same high prices. I refuse to use the automated check outs no matter how long the lines are and I make the point to complain about the machines. Plus you can’t buy alcohol at the automated machines.
The Media is TOXIC to this POTUS and especially to the Public at large for they distort the views of this president in particular.
POTUS said he would act without delay after Summer if Congress refused to act.
After Summer. he didn’t say it was in between the Fall or Winter. The Media is the ONLY apparatus…..having a misunderstanding of the English Language. Just like in June/July of 2012….with you didn’t build that. The 9/12….Acts of Terror…..the 8/14…..No plan, yet……and the hick-ups on Managing ISIL. Note Al Qaeda is NOT destroyed, but is being managed. Note the disservice and the willful ignorance and the blatant disregard to the TRUTH, the whole TRUTH.
Saw him this morning! This is in my hometown- such a great day!
Congrats Laura on #1, welcome to TOD, and so glad you were able to see the President in your hometown! 🙂 Wish we could be there too!
THIS! Welcome, Laura:) What a wonderful day to remember!
Thank you for the very warm welcome that you and your country have given to our dear PBO.
Congrats on 1st Laura, welcome to TOD and please extend our gratitude to your fellow citizens for the warm welcome all of you have extended to President Obama.
Congrats Laura and Welcome! How exciting it must be for you and your hometown! Thanks so much for your warm embrace of the President.

Yeah, what’s with the reverses?!

Over New Zealand?
Catching up on the last thread, which had an amazing amount of info:
1) Rikyrah
Luke Russert is joining Joe Scarborough as a regular panelist on upChuck’s MTP per NYPost Page Six “We’re told the move is part of a plan to bring a right-leaning voice to the program to appeal to viewers turned off by the show’s famously left-leaning former hosts including the ousted David Gregory.”
http://pagesix.com/2014/09/03/tim-russerts-son-luke-to-be-a-regular-face-on-meet-the-press/?_ga=1.28479804.1095428863.1396443557
My two cents: upChuck has sounded the death knell on MTP. Unfortunately Li’l Russert is upChuck’s mentee — IMO Luke is too lazy (and perhaps dumb?) to follow in his father’s footsteps.
2) Hopefruit2
Stunned (in a good way) by Estonian President’s tweet:
3) Linda
Nicole Wallace is joining the View.
My two cents: @Maddow’s Executive Producer, Bill Wolffe, is now the showrunner at The View, and @Maddow (and no doubt Bill Wolffe) fawned all over her on @Maddow’s show — to a nauseating degree.

“the show’s famously left-leaning former hosts including the ousted David Gregory.”
Boy, if Gregory was left-leaning, or even any of his predecessors, than I must be to the left of Lenin.
I never liked him – always thought he was a GOP shill!
Jesus, woman found beheaded in a London house. Don’t know what the hell it’s about.
High praise for the school where my daughter teaches in Indy—–visited by Labor Secy yesterday, called the school a “national leader in the effort to close the skills gap”…..

I skimmed the article, but still have no idea why the little girl wouldn’t be allowed into Krogers.
She’s eating an ice cream cone, which isn’t allowed. Just like skateboarding or going shirtless. Not saying they should be allowed, but the implication is that Kroger thinks eating an ice cream cone in the store is worse than carrying an AR-15.
Huh.
I’ve seen children eating in grocery stores (may not have been ice cream, don’t remember), never gave a second thought about it.
Kroger’s (aka Ralphs in CA) must not enforce this “rule” in laid-back lala land.
ice cream on their pristine floor not ok, but blood and gory body parts ? No bfd.

Go figure.
I’m telling you right now that these polls are B.S.
This is Rasmussen’s latest.
NPR gets a lot of donations from the KKKochs so they lean right. I don’t believe these polls I am sure they are skewed GOP.
What climate change?
I just realized in the picture up top that the kid on the right of Cameron is paying more attention to PBO.
I can imagine he’s thinking, “Why didn’t I get to sit over there?”
I am SO unobservant, great spot Japa!! 🙂
But you are observant enough to recognize high quality people, which is why I am no longer your former future husband. Right?
Good eye, japa! 😀
Good Morning TOD!
I’m very busy at work so just popping in to say that I Love My President and he just needs to keep on keeping on and ignore the rest.
Everyone have a great O’Day!
Notice that they are being treated failry well. Compare that to other places we have seen recently.
And it should be noted, these are legitimate arrests. In fact, many of the protestors expected to and wanted to be arrested.
Exactly, japa. ‘Civil disobedience’ meant to bring attention to the cause, without damage.
Hello TOD.
Thanks for all you do.
Good Morning TODVille!

Sorry if it is a duplicate.
Have a great day.
Thanks for the link NCLB – I guess it hasn’t started yet.
Hopefruit, I believe I posted it too late. They are done for the day. I saved the link for tomorrow.
It has just started!!!! 🙂
I am listening to the play back. With 6 hours ahead of us, I thought they were done for the day. The meeting will officially end tomorrow.
Okay the meeting is done now. 😦 They apparently have a private meeting as well.
I think its’ live again. I am confused!
Vicki, Such insight you have! So true.
TY nospin………..Now, about my spelling vengence
This was from earlier today 🙂
Congratulations to Laura Emily Dunn and to the good people of Wales for hosting our dear President! Love the smiles on those children’s faces.
I love this one woman! LOVE HER!!!
Hmm, not sure why the embed didn’t work. Let’s try again.
LOL! So it worked afterall.. TWICE! Sorry about the duplicate. 🙂
Happy Birthday to Alycee!
Yes. Happy, Happy, Happy and hugely blessed birthday to our Alycee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is a link for the full article we could not get access to in the London Times written by PBO and Cameron jointly:

Thank you so much FoxfireTX……
I know this AM, I ‘ve heard a story that Rand Paul now wants ISIL to be destroyed…….so his infantile flip flops continues with impunity.
Ugh…
I turned on tv just at the moment Susan Page was saying to Mrs.Greenspan : ” Another unforced Error from President Obama ”
She was talking about his backtracking on Immigration by the end of the summer.
I have heard nothing official about that from the WH.
