Love the pre-#NATOWales timing of this, as well as, the fact that President Hollande stuck it to Putin …

BTW, if this is true then no way (irrespective of all the Iranian denials) is the US and Iran not fully aware of each others presence and roles in Iraq (which would be a good thing) ….

I told you that the media were going to pay more attention to this overseas trip of POTUS. The last few trips he has been on you hardly knew he was overseas. This morning I watch the press conference and I saw POTUS speech he gave, the entire thing with no interruption. They are only covering it because they want to see POTUS flop.

      You’re right about that, Nena.

MSM’s focus is on the gruesome, horrible deaths of two real journalists, which is understandable.

But they are not helping the situation by undermining the President of the United States when he is on foreign soil, proving that they are GOP/Koch hacks, not true journalists.

The media’s hyperfocus on the deaths of the two journalists is neither sincere nor understandable IN LIGHT of the same media’s past behavior. See the tweet below posted by Nena on pundits’ response after a journalist was beheaded in June 2004…

We may be going solar at casa de LL.

My brother, who owns our house, just emailed me and asked if I’d consider going solar. I said yes. We have to move quickly as the federal rebates are ending soon.

EXACTLY!!! The pundits are only “concerned” about these journalists’ deaths to the extent they can find a “blame Obama” angle and/or push for a full-blown boots-on-the-ground war.

Totally off topic, but the latest poll out of Pa is showing a widening of Dem Wolf’s lead over Corbett. The last time a poll showed a big lead for Wolf, Corbett accused the pollster of conspiring against him, once again showing that how hard it is for Republicans to stay classy.

On a lighter note, in the land of the absurd known as the local election scene, a third candidate, a rabid far right R woman, has jumped into the race for the state assembly and started hurling accusations about the other R and the Independent candidate. A rep from the R campaign seems to have spit (no a joke) on an opposition supporter and the police were called, with lots of ensuing accusations and skirmishes. All of this took place on the courthouse steps and, once again, made the local news. Have to say, this has been the most entertaining election season ever–in a race that generally puts people to sleep.

Some GOP moron declared last week that “Real Americans don’t care about the economy.”

Gay Marriage Suffers First Defeat In Federal Court Since SCOTUS Ruling

A federal judge in Louisiana has upheld the state’s ban on gay marriage.

U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman’s ruling on Wednesday was the first defeat in a federal court for same-sex marriage since the Supreme Court ruled in 2013 that the U.S. government cannot deny equal benefits to married gay couples.

“The Court finds that defendants in this passionately charged national issue have the more persuasive argument. The State of Louisiana has a legitimate interest under a rational basis standard of review for addressing the meaning of marriage through the democratic process,” Feldman wrote.

Feldman, who was appointed by Ronald Reagan in 1983, argued that states have a right to ban gay marriage. He described the concept of same-sex marriage as “nonexistent and even inconceivable until very recently.” He wrote, “Many states have democratically chosen to recognize same-sex marriage. But until recent years, it had no place at all in this nation’s history and tradition.”

Tell me something – would someone who is innocent and has spent 3 decades in jail be considered as having a criminal record and be ineligible to vote? I mean, how long would it take the system to eradicate his ‘criminal record’ totally, or is that even done? For example, could either of these men vote in November or will it take a few more ‘decades’ to clear their unjust record?

      • 84 Nena20409
        September 3, 2014 at 2:33 pm

It depends on the state and the Gov and how their law is written.

In a real Fair State, the Gov would make it right and restore all privileges and that includes Voting too.

TY for response, Nena. Kind of sad that it’s dependent on … when they have so thoroughly destroyed someone’s life. I wonder how well these men will be able to adjust to life outside, even if they are given funds to help with their reintegration.

Pennsylvania teen in KKK hood arrested for harassing black college students
    By Scott Kaufman
    Wednesday, September 3, 2014 11:58 EDT

A Pennsylvania teenager was arrested this week on charges related to an August 4, 2014 incident in which he harassed African-American students on Bloomsburg University’s campus while wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood, BloomUtoday.com reports.

Authorities said that Walter Corey Reibsome was wearing the costume in a truck driven by his friend, Frank Rubio, and that Reibsome leaned out of the truck’s window and yelled racial slurs while Rubio blared his horn. “Get out of our town,” the victim told police Reibsome yelled.

The pair were caught because the victim was able to identify Rubio’s uniquely modified truck. Photographs of the truck — and of the duo wearing the white hoods traditionally associated with the Ku Klux Klan — were posted on Rubio’s Facebook page.

As for another example of White folks stealing Black folks shyt and not paying for it..

NIH finally makes good with Henrietta Lacks’ family — and it’s about time, ethicist says

Over the past six decades, huge medical advances have sprung from the cells of Henrietta Lacks, a poor, African-American mother of five who died in 1951 of cervical cancer. But Lacks never agreed that the cells from a biopsy before her death taken could be used for research. For years, her own family had no idea that her cells were still alive in petri dishes in scientists’ labs. They eventually learned they had fueled a line called HeLa cells, which have generated billions of dollars, but they didn’t realize until this spring that her genome had been sequenced and made public for anyone to see.

On Tuesday, the National Institute of Health announced it was, at long last, making good with Lacks’ family. Under a new agreement, Lack’s genome data will be accessible only to those who apply for and are granted permission. And two representatives of the Lacks family will serve on the NIH group responsible for reviewing biomedical researchers’ applications for controlled access to HeLa cells. Additionally, any researcher who uses that data will be asked to include an acknowledgement to the Lacks family in their publications.

The new understanding between the NIH and the Lacks family does not include any financial compensation for the family. The Lacks family hasn’t, and won’t, see a dime of the profits that came from the findings generated by HeLa cells. But this is a moral and ethical victory for a family long excluded from any acknowledgment and involvement in genetic research their matriarch made possible.

It took more than 60 years, but ethics has finally caught up to a particularly fast-moving area of science: taking tissue samples for genetic research. Thanks to the efforts of a dogged journalist, some very thoughtful science leaders in Europe and the U.S., and an ordinary family willing to learn about a complex subject and then to do the right thing to help you and me and our descendants, a long-standing wrong has now been fixed.
