Thanks, Chips! …….BTW thanks for cleaning up my post. My laptop monitor still doesn’t work ( I tried dropping it again to reverse the damage 😀 ) Hoping to find a good deal on Labor Day weekend 😎
// Westhampton Beach, New York (CNN) – Hillary Clinton, who has yet to comment about the protests over the death of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri, ignored questions about the incident on Sunday. After signing more than 700 books at Books & Books in Westhampton Beach, Clinton was asked by two reporters for her reaction to the controversy.
Clinton ignored both questions and left the bookstore. Liberal activists and civil rights leaders have asked Clinton for her response, saying she is the presumed front-runner for her party’s presidential nomination in 2016 and that she has commented on major news stories in the past. //
If you want to know what I think [ 😉 😉 ], I’ll repeat what I’ve said here before – Hillary usually reserves her ‘opinion’ until she tests the direction of the wind. She isn’t confident enough to be ahead of the curve on any potentially pivotal issue, IMO.
Yup..yup. That kind of “follow the crowd” behavior does not instill any confidence in her ability to be a President who has to make a wide array of unpopular decisions on short notice…
/this response came from the devil in me/ Her adviser might say she wasn’t following the crowd so much as she was speaking for the ‘majority’ – (once she had verified what the majority was saying). 😉 {Truly, I want to leave her alone until 2016, but her name keeps stumbling into me, even when I try to avoid it.}
Why would Hillary take the chance of making the white folks made with her, she think if we blacks get made with her she can always send out the black first black President to patch things up, Bill Clinton. I think she is being a dam coward.
Agree with you on this, hf.
Isn’t going to run and if she does run, isn’t going to win.
The MSM are starting to know this and the trickle of “Will HRC have a primary opponent?” articles will become a torrent soon enough.
Also “Will the Dems have a better than expected mid-term?” stories will start to circulate right after Labor day. And no, I am not smoking anything. I am genuinely positive.
Did any of you see the rally for Darrin Wilson yesterday? I have no doubt that those were the same kind of people who would have been holding a rally for the man who kill Martin L. King Jr, for the man who bomb the church with the four little black girls in it, for the man or men who kill Emmitt Till.
Me too – scrolling back. Hadn’t realized there were so many toons on the issue because I don’t check the news-y sites or the cartoon links. Thank you kindly, LPlains.
TY..I was watching the LLWS this afternoon, and patiently waiting for College football to start on Thursday….other than that waiting to see how long of a waiting list I’m going to be on for a radiology program I applied for. Just sent all my transcripts for evaluation….
You would think Hillary would have learn a lesson from 2008, she thought she had it all sewn up then, but she was given a shock. History can repeat itself.
Look like the Chicago LL team has lost to S. Korea. Oh well at least they made it to the championship game. Hopefully they will be invited to the White House to meet POTUS and FLOTUS.
As Eastern Kentucky University professor Victor E. Kappeler writes, “The institution of slavery and the control of minorities… were two of the more formidable historic features of American society shaping early policing.”
“[T]he St. Louis police were founded to protect residents from Native Americans in that frontier city, and many southern police departments began as slave patrols,” writes Kappeler, who is Associate Dean of the School of Justice Studies at EKU. “Slave patrols helped to maintain the economic order and to assist the wealthy landowners in recovering and punishing slaves who essentially were considered property.
Institutional racism in policing is not a new development, but militarization is. During the 1980s and 90s, the government took advantage of the public fear of drugs to gain support for ramped up military-grade policing programs. Apart from 1033, federal support also came in a variety of DOJ and DHS grants that bolstered state and local law enforcement agencies, which used them to purchase lethal weapons, body armor, and vehicles built to withstand roadside bombs in war zones. Joint operations between police departments and the federal agencies like the FBI became common.
But the changes caused by militarization were not equal among all communities. Racial disparities were rampant. Black communities were disproportionately targeted for policing and arrests — and the increasingly militarized equipment and conduct that went with it — despite evidence pointing to higher levels of drug crimes among whites.
So, I’m watching Match of the Day on BBC1, and finally saw highlights from the Sunderland – Man U match. Chips, just like every prominent member of a community is responsible to comment on anything any random member of that community does, so are you responsible for everything Ashley Young does. What a freaking dive! And when the ref carded him, dude didn’t even blink. He knew it was a complete dive. Explain, young lady!
My missus was so happy when she found me. “Finally,” she thought, “a guy who doesn’t like the NFL! I won’t be a Sunday widow.” Little did she know I’d develop an obsession for soccer. She’s borne up well, though.
I said I was not going to make comment on Hillary and 2016 any longer. I am sticking to that pledge.
But have people forgotten “Sister Soldier” Bill Clinton politicking in the 1990s? I don’t even know whatever became of that hip pop artist.
Last…..since HRC has been a lukewarm participant in 2014 thus far, why are folks surprised that she is mum now? I don’t see too many Dems in Congress today who are not people of color making statements on Ferguson.
You know LL Hillary will say something only if the polls have shown it to be popular. Her views are what her pollsters tell her.
We need her for 2014 midterms…..where is she? Setting up for 2016, dissing our president.
In an interview with Salon’s Thomas Frank, public intellectual Cornel West expressed the depths of his disappointment with the presidency of Barack Obama.
“The thing is,” West told Frank, Obama “posed as a progressive and turned out to be counterfeit. We ended up with a Wall Street presidency, a drone presidency, a national security presidency. The question and answer always remain with these so-called black activist, “What the F have YOU done for the black race to lift them up?” answer NOTHING! This president has done more than any president in modern history. I wonder what Corney will do when he promotes Hill
Love these thoughts. Even though Chgo’s Little League team fell short in the final game, they gave the city much fun and excitement, accomplished so much reaching that final game, won 4 elimination games in the tourney to get to the final. But as writer said, something more important was accomplished also. Instead of yelling at each other, it reminded everyone how good it feels to “seek commonality”, to unite in giving a “broad shouldered hug”. How good it feels to all cheer for one thing. And how the final score doesn’t really matter. It was the journey for the team and for us that was significant and meaningful.
John knows a lot of history and he wouldn’t be the first person with accurate insights and sound strategic advice who wasn’t able to influence Presidential decisions. He’s also got a ton of attitude, which may have not served him well or been of benefit to others.
In any case, my urging VP Biden & Ambassador Rice to chat with him is sincere. The Salafi jihad is of major concern and I have no doubt that John is way out of his league in stating that the Obama Administration is ‘naive’ regarding the severity of the threat it poses to civilization, itself.
If I remember correctly, John was one of those who kept harping on the optics of PBO’s playing golf, and worse yet, citing that silly NYT article claiming “Dems were concerned” when I pushed back on his nonsense. Then a whole bunch of his followers including War Room Tom and others jumped in to defend him…
Missed that episode, hf2! They are a ‘sensitive bunch’ and I don’t admire that aspect of their behavior.
Despite whatever agenda John may have regarding President Obama, the dude knows a lot, is faculty at the Naval War College, and has been a member of the intelligence community for a number of years.
We all know how comfortable President Obama is with folk who have different points of view, if they are genuinely trying to contribute to solving a problem. I’d give John the benefit of the doubt, call him in, and have the dialogue. It’ll be obvious to everyone in the room if John is blowing smoke or if his specific suggestions are of value. The threat is great enough that I would not want to miss an opportunity to reduce it even if I had to put up with a little attitude.
Wasn’t aware of his disengagement from the Naval War College, meta. They still have him listed in their online directory. Be that as it may, my interest, as stated, is to ensure that anyone with potentially valid insights is able to input to our NSC. His attitude is off-putting, for sure, and I thought I’d made that caveat clear.
That’s why I wish John would simply stick to tweeting out historical facts – instead of engaging in childish and baseless “attacks” on PBO to please his conservative followers.
Not that he can’t make a suggestion here or there. But he needs to stop allowing himself to get bogged down with those personal and silly MSM narratives about PBO.
Hillary is the candidate of the Establishment. Plain and simple. In 2008, she ALSO was their candidate. But Barack Obama, the candidate of the people, was unstoppable.
Barack Obama, while having to deal with the constraints of the presidency and the limits of the american political culture, has demonstrated over and over again that he is not the “yes man” of the Establishment, especially the National Security Establishment. Barack Obama demonstrates INDEPENDENT thinking. He asks difficult questions, pushes back against old narratives, and is much more realistic about the limits of american power, and the long-term consequences of any decision.
In short, Barack Obama is his own man.
Is it any wonder why the Beltway , and the national media, dislike him so much ?
President Barack Obama is the biggest threat the neo-con ideology has had to face and they haven’t enjoyed one second of security since February,2007. In turn, they have attempted to crush and ruin every moment and initiative of the last 7 years.
AND……….They have Failed.
😦 Oh, africa… he has had some health issues, hasn’t he? Hope that he’ll get to feeling better soon. He is where he should be. {{{africa}}} I can tell you need a hug:)
I’m sorry to hear that you had to take your husband to the hospital. I hope he recovers quickly. I’ll keep you and your husband in my thoughts & prayers.
Thank you DF. Lord, yes, I needed that hug. Thank God it is not as bad as the doctors first thought when we got there. I left him resting well to come home and charge my phone and get something to eat. It has been a heck of a morning to say the least. But thanks, again. 🙂 🙂
Hiya africa. Glad to hear that hubby is resting and okay for now. Take care of yourself as well. Sending positive and healing vibes to you both. 🙂 Lots of hugs to you.
Africa, sorry to hear about your husband. (((hugs))) to you both. You have to take care of yourelf, he will need you in the days ahead. Pray the doctors fix him up real good for you. Love Roberta
I was just about to DM you, LP, to see if were going to post soon.
Congrats, Lib_L!
😀 (beaten fair and square – because I talk too much)
But, did you all see JackieG’s first twitter pics? And notice that her group had great weather yesterday for their fiesta latina? 😎 😀
Excellent selection, LP. Thank you!!
❓ 🙂
Hi, LPlains! Seems like Mr. Librarian and I are the only ones here at the moment. Wonder what the others are doing? I’ll go enjoy your offerings.
Oh, dear, problems posting still?
I tried to comment on the Statue of Liberty cartoon which saddened me terribly. It is very hard to watch US news these days.
Thank you for the Toons, LP & congrats on furst LL.
Utterly brilliant toons LP, thank you endlessly!
Thanks, Chips! …….BTW thanks for cleaning up my post. My laptop monitor still doesn’t work ( I tried dropping it again to reverse the damage 😀 ) Hoping to find a good deal on Labor Day weekend 😎
“I tried dropping it again to reverse the damage”
😆 I’m SO relieved I’m not the only one to do these things.
Thank you again LP, these are stunning toons.

These “liberal activists and civil rights leaders” ought to take this as an unambiguous sign that HRC is no “front-runner” for anything.
If you want to know what I think [ 😉 😉 ], I’ll repeat what I’ve said here before – Hillary usually reserves her ‘opinion’ until she tests the direction of the wind. She isn’t confident enough to be ahead of the curve on any potentially pivotal issue, IMO.

I know you’re not smoking anything Vicki. I’ve been saying the same thing about HRC and the midterms.
Outstanding collection of toons! Wow!
No joke! I want that T-shirt too. 🙂
I’d buy a case of them TODAY!
I don’t want that T-shirt, don’t want to think about 2017 when he and FLOTUS walk out of the WH for good.
😦
ditto
ditto
Oh you betcha, I want that shirt too!!
Poignant Toons LP.
Au for LL. Congrats.
Did any of you see the rally for Darrin Wilson yesterday? I have no doubt that those were the same kind of people who would have been holding a rally for the man who kill Martin L. King Jr, for the man who bomb the church with the four little black girls in it, for the man or men who kill Emmitt Till.
I keep scrolling back through these amazing works of political art. Jaw-dropping! Thank you, LP!
Me too – scrolling back. Hadn’t realized there were so many toons on the issue because I don’t check the news-y sites or the cartoon links. Thank you kindly, LPlains.
My pleasure, VC!
Aha! You’ve come out of hiding, I see! 🙂 You did a fine job.
↓
So, what’s cooking in your corner these days?
TY..I was watching the LLWS this afternoon, and patiently waiting for College football to start on Thursday….other than that waiting to see how long of a waiting list I’m going to be on for a radiology program I applied for. Just sent all my transcripts for evaluation….
Well, remembering that that is a serious goal of yours, I hope you hear back soon that you are ‘in’!
I won’t make any comment about College football for fear of damaging our friendship. 😉 😉
amazing….I agree Dudette….they capture the issues powerfully
It’s been over two weeks and Hillary has nothing to say. Not even to offer her sympathy to the Brown family.
In HRC’s mind, she thinks that she has the black vote all sewn up if she decide to run. We are often taken for granted.
You would think Hillary would have learn a lesson from 2008, she thought she had it all sewn up then, but she was given a shock. History can repeat itself.
She can’t upset the racist de Rothschild PUMA faction. She needs those votes!
Her focus group must have nixed any commentary on the Blahs.
🙂 I fear you are correct, Meta!
RIP Sir Richard and thank you for many years of entertaining movies. Always a class act.
I can’t go through this coming winter as the last one…….C’mon. I sincerely hope that their prediction is 1001% inaccurate.
DITTO!!…brrrrrrrrrrr
/frown/ I really wish they wouldn’t tell me this now – let me enjoy whatever summer is left, without anticipating the ‘shivery and shovelry’.
Look like the Chicago LL team has lost to S. Korea. Oh well at least they made it to the championship game. Hopefully they will be invited to the White House to meet POTUS and FLOTUS.
And the MSM is praying for violence to occur tomorrow at Mike’s funeral…….Blood suckers!
The Brown family has asked for there to be no protests. I’m sure the community will observe. Will the outsiders, though?
That’s the question. It wouldn’t surprise me if the media started something for the camera.
The media is part of the problem. A BIG part of it.
AMEN….^5
Extraordinary Toons..
TY PF……I couldn’t single out a few….they were all so poignant!
This is an exceptional piece re: the militarization of the police and structural racism…where the two collide….I recommend reading this

I actually didn’t think it was a dive! And I say that as someone who blushes every time he DOES dive!
Look at the video, Brown catches him:
Of course, the gymnastics after are embarrassing, but for once, methinks the Ashley man was entitled to tumble.
Meanwhile:

😎
Yeah yeah yeah. 1 point out of 6, madame!
Hush.
My missus was so happy when she found me. “Finally,” she thought, “a guy who doesn’t like the NFL! I won’t be a Sunday widow.” Little did she know I’d develop an obsession for soccer. She’s borne up well, though.
PBO coming to Cali? If I cause an earthquake down here, do you think he’ll stop in LA too?
I know, I know, I’ll say a couple of Hail Mary’s

The torturers go free. The Wall Street executives go free. The war crimes in the Middle East, especially now in Gaza, the war criminals go free.”

I thought about going to read that article about Corny West and his hatred for POTUS, but I decided not too. Not in the mood for West B.S.
President Obama always does the right thing……he is just amazing.
That’s the Southside of Chicago young guys, I knew POTUS would contact them win or lose.
I’m proud of them too.
SO wonderful!
***WARNING*** This video at the link is difficult to watch. Mike Brown’s murder and his neighbors that speak about that day and what they saw.

I’d like to be in the room if President Obama were to invite John Schindler in for a chat.
Then a whole bunch of his followers including War Room Tom and others jumped in to defend him…
LOL!
He’s no longer on the faculty of the Naval War College due to his indiscretion texting a photo of his junk to a woman (he’s married).
He’s obviously intelligent but I don’t know that he’d trump anyone POTUS consults with at the moment and his ego/attitude is insufferable.
You did. I was just adding my opinion!
Here’s some info on him “resigning.”
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/08/snowden-critic-resigns-naval-war-college-over-online-penis-photo-flap/
Unfortunate. That ego thing of his obviously compromised his judgement, as often happens. Thanks for the info, meta.
He often displays the most childish behavior. It’s really astonishing considering how much he thinks of himself.
He *wants* to think he’s smarter than PBO on foreign policy.
He blocked me. I remember getting mad at him about something he said about the President.
Biden, O’Malley, Patrick… Chipsticks.
I admit I don’t always get British humor. That being said, WTF?
I think that was during the war of 1812 when the British did actually burn our White House. They are having a joke at our expense.
I know what it’s referencing. Just think it’s a tacky mess coming from the UK Embassy in the USA, because of the whole, you know, diplomacy thing.
I could see this being marginally funny from a comedian or regular citizen, but the embassy? Come on. [sigh!]
I think they heard you, Dudette!!
Is this for real or the GOP playbook to defeat her in the primaries?
Hillary is the candidate of the Establishment. Plain and simple. In 2008, she ALSO was their candidate. But Barack Obama, the candidate of the people, was unstoppable.

Worthwhile reading ….
Whew! Hey everybody. Spent all my day in the ER. Took my hubby. Shortness of breath. He was admitted. I am beat.
Hey LP, I know Andy Marlette.
Take care all.
😦 Oh, africa… he has had some health issues, hasn’t he? Hope that he’ll get to feeling better soon. He is where he should be. {{{africa}}} I can tell you need a hug:)
Hope your husband will be ok, africa. Will keep both of you in my thoughts.
Oooooo…I hope everything gets better for you and your hubby..
I hope your husband responds to treatment and is in good health ASAP, Africa.
Andy’s toons are consistently some of the best ones around….along w/ Luckovich & Bennett!
I’m sorry to hear that you had to take your husband to the hospital. I hope he recovers quickly. I’ll keep you and your husband in my thoughts & prayers.
