Obviously, the GOP tries to defund anything that is a threat or a potential threat to *their* interests. Anything that might allow others to move up into their realm (education, health, employment/wages, justice & equality, equal treatment under the law, etc.) is considered a threat.

Brady took his own video which was much farther away from the crime scene.

Morning all, our local Republican Party continues to provide unintended hilarity. Yesterday some R’s picketed their own headquarters while inside the Republican leadership refused ANY support, financial or otherwise, to their own candidate, who fairly won the primary election. So now there is more anger among Republican factions than there is between R’s and D.s All of this is being aired out on the front pages of the local newspaper so it’s like seeing monkeys fling poo at each other in front of the crowds.

“Emory University Hospital to announce release of American Ebola patients”

    http://www.wsbtv.com/news/news/local/first-american-ebola-patient-be-released-emory-uni/ng6YL/

Emory University Hospital will hold a news conference Thursday afternoon to talk about the release of both Ebola patients currently being treated at the hospital. Dr. Kent Brantly is expected to be present at the news conference to make a statement.

The news conference at Emory University Hospital will take place at 11 a.m. Brantly will make a statement at that time but will not take any questions.

SW, now we’re going to hear scary stories about how these patients are going to infect the population. Spew ignorance, stir up the crowds, create havoc and criticism of ….PBO. Wash. Rinse. repeat.

      • August 21, 2014 at 8:26 am

        GM JackieG.

Yes, I’ve already heard that there is speculation as to whether these patients are still contagious. One, I truly don’t believe that Emory (probably in consultation with the CDC) would release these patients if they were a risk to the public. Two, it doesn’t appear that either of these patients are planning to do a lot of socializing as they both seem to want privacy and seclusion for the time being. Three, I doubt any of the worrywarts personally know either of these patients, much less will be close enough to them to be concerned.

“Paul Ryan: I’m Keeping Tax Cuts for the Rich”

    http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2014/08/paul-ryan-im-keeping-tax-cuts-for-the-rich.html

Reducing the top tax rate has been the Republican Party’s highest priority for a quarter century. Since the 2012 election, a handful of apostates have gently urged it to change course. Paul Ryan…has a message for the reformers who want to change course: forget it. Ryan…“made it clear that he disagrees with some conservatives who are willing to accept a high top tax rate in order to increase the child tax credit.”

Starting in the early 1980s, supply-side economics emerged as the Republican Party’s policy doctrine…Accordingly, Republicans have valued low tax rates over absolutely everything else.

In the 2012 election, that commitment turned into a major liability for the party. The Republican ticket ran on a somewhat sketchily defined plan to reform taxes, the impact of which would have been to give the richest one percent a huge tax cut and impose higher taxes on the middle class.

The Republican reformers have, correctly, identified the commitment to reducing the top tax rate as a major (or even the major) liability. The most important theme of “Room to Grow,” a policy manifesto by “reform conservatives,” is that the GOP should abandon supply-side economics.

Ryan has positioned himself as a reformist in some ways. He acknowledged that calling people who get government benefits “takers” is *mean*. On the other hand, Ryan is a longtime, deeply devoted supply-sider. So Ryan is cross-pressured here, between a faction that is attempting to excise the party’s weaknesses and his own most fundamental convictions.

    • 70 Don
      August 21, 2014 at 8:35 am

I don’t think Paul Ryan should change his message at all; it is a message that keeps getting him elected. The white working class feels that they are under siege so they continue to vote for Ryan, even though Ryan does not appear to be slowing down in his efforts to fuck them in ways that the Karma Sutra haven’t thought of. Politicians don’t change; it is the voter that must change.

Truly amazing that someone who was raised with government assistance acts the way this man does act. He hasn’t earned a thing – gets his support from the government and his wife.

      • August 21, 2014 at 9:30 am

He wants to pretend like he never had any help [the “I built this” mentality]. Pulling yourself up by your bootstraps is not supposed to entail any government assistance. His pretense is so ingrained, he sees no problem with denying others the resources and opportunities that helped him to get ahead.

      UGH…Clueless and tone deaf.

    • August 21, 2014 at 8:36 am

Nor do they give the appearance of wanting to be in touch. The interview that Chris Hayes did with the mayor in the OTHER Ferguson leads me to believe that as long as the issues that plague the black and/or low-income residents do not touch them, then all is well as far as they are concerned.

      • August 21, 2014 at 9:00 am

Agree. I am no expert on body language. However, I paid close attention to his body language the entire interview…….actually paid closer attention to that than what he was saying. He was majorly uncomfortable. Yes, most of his answers to Chris were lame and he repeated a lot so both verbal and non-verbals reveal he doesn’t have a clue.

Going to the Y this morning, I heard Ari R. interview Jerryl Christmas. It was a great listen. Would be awesome if we could get audio of it. Yeah, I know, it’s XM radio so may not be possible. Christmas is a defense attorney (AA) in STL.

IMO, stopping on turnpike by some ignorant police officer is still a possibility. I suspect a lot of officers are quite ignorant and many probably wouldn’t recognize him – unless his vehicle has some kind of identification.

This morning’s ” all in for GOP” propaganda piece is by Corporate Tool and sad sack dope, John Harwood . Title?

Just trying to depress Democratic voters and make them feel OK about not voting in the upcoming mid-terms. Helps GOP…mmmm.

And the premise is not true either.

Sadly, there is little hope that either of the Clintons will debunk this and go campaigning for Congressional Democrats for the 2014 mid-terms.
