The military leader of pro-Russian rebels in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, Igor Girkin – known as Strelkov – has resigned.

Alexander Borodai, the former PM of the self-declared Donetsk People’s Republic, confirmed the news but denied reports Mr Strelkov had been wounded.

There has been heavy shelling both in Donetsk and Luhansk as Ukrainian forces battle the separatists.

The news came with a disputed Russian aid convoy stationed near the border.

Mr Borodai confirmed the news to Russian media but gave no reason for Strelkov’s departure.

    • August 14, 2014 at 12:15 pm

All the Russian mercs are evidently trying to escape based on various reports I’ve read. Lots of rumors Strelkov was injured, but no reliable confirmation. Only a full invasion by Putin will stop the Ukrainians from finishing the job in Luhansk and Donetsk.

wow. finally. The locals are clearly in over their heads. Don’t have any experience in crowd management. And that’s my most generous assessment.

Wanna bet that the real leader behind the scenes has been the president ? Talking to the Governor, discussing what’s at stakes, expressing empathy for all involved, offering federal help, … scratch that.. STRONGLY suggesting federal help.

Yes, where are we going? I had a brief beach vacation, but now could use more! I did vacation vicariously through my friends’ recent trip to NYC to take their daughter for the first time … boy was that fun but tiring! We (they) did everything, hit all the tourist musts including two broadway plays. And stayed in a suite in a hotel right in the middle of Manhattan, walking distance to the theater district! Awesome.

I thank you so much, LL. Please do not stop. But do what is right for your being as active and positive within this beautiful family. I do not want you to over work yourself, but I need you, we all need you. Please know that you are so appreciated by this little senior.

I hope that your vacation will be a lovely one. And you and the missus will have a beautiful, relaxed and fun vacation. Thank you for all that you do, LL. I have ascertained that you are not one to move away from something that you believe in so much. HZ

I only saw a bit of the governor’s remarks and then CNN cut him off BEFORE he responded to questions from the people of Ferguson. (He gushed that he was late meeting with them today because he had the call from the President.) I’m late to the party, just like the governor, but hoping for a video later. Also saw the Mayor of Ferguson on CNN. Dolt. He said he had already talked more to CNN than he’d received, timewise, in “reports” on what’s going on in his own city.

This is a little selfish, but I have been trying to figure out why Robin Williams’ passing feels so personal to me. This morning it occurred to me that maybe it’s because I have said to myself on my darkest days: “Well, as long as I can still laugh… life is worth it.” He saw humor everywhere.

    • August 14, 2014 at 1:20 pm

I think it’s because he was true to himself.

He was the opposite of a corporate sell-out.

In this day of famous-for-being-famous (I know sex sells, but how can anyone who doesn’t lust after her possibly *care* about her twisted family), a true talent (perhaps the best impersonator ever) who is true to themselves resonates.

Reminds me of why literary types continue to be fascinated with Dylan Thomas and Woody Guthrie.

Well—I imagine he expected local and county police to behave in a professional manner and handle whatever occurred there. He removed the smaller Ferguson pd and placed most of the responsibility with the larger county pd. And arranged, likely with PBO, for FBI and fed oversight there. I can’t be too furious with him—–I think some of that anger is politically motivated—–no one expected the out of control, escalated scene there last night.

I think that it is interesting the Gov Nixon and The President are having a press conference on the same day…..in addition…there inital comments were similar…..Gov Nixon was quick to call on the Justice Dept…..

were they both gathering evidence before they made a move?…

i remember PBO once told Ed Henry…that he like to know what he was talking about …before he spoke…

These two wonderful and dedicated decent men, our President Barack Obama and Attorney General, Eric Holder have my deepest respect. Lift them up with your positive energy and personal prayers and meditation that they will move with grace and wisdom as they carry out their duties. Two beautiful souls working on behalf of justice for all Americans.

I have reasons to keep this respect for President Obama and Attorney Eric Holder, and I will keep on believing in them and supporting them. We are blessed to have them doing their jobs. Remember AG Eric Holder is working with a great team, but he is also working without some of the best and brightest that he has requested and that the President has nominated and have yet to be confirmed. So let us give support to them and continue to push the Senate on confirming our Judicial Nominations. We see how communities all over this nation can and will need the best serving their communities.

I left these quotes last evening after giving myself some quiet time after all of the ugliness we saw last night. I now share for our meditation of thoughts:
“A world in upheaval is the breaking of the old sod-the revealing of rich fresh soil ready for new planting. Rejoice in the opportunity to sow a new crop.” Jonathan L. Huie

” This time like all times is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it.” Ralph W. Emerson

Key word for me in first quote: ‘opportunity’
Key word for me in second quote: ‘if’
I will choose to meditate on these as I try to clear my mind for what is taking place in the lives of the citizens in Ferguson and also for the calm and precious thoughts for the parents and family of Michael Brown.

We will get through this and make some needed change through it all as we embark on this journey. Do not give up, TOD family, but get your rest and refresh yourselves because we have a lot of hard work to get done for Nov. 2014. Keep his back, please.HZ

    1. Reporters were arrested in Ferguson
    2. Hillary and the President may or may not have hugged (Ed. note: Nobody gives a fuck)
    3. Other things (See Ed. note above)

CNN should be getting back to the plane story, soon. Or maybe bring us up to date on Bubble Boy.

I thought President Obama made a statement when not more than two days after Mike Brown was executed you had the Justice Department and the FBI already in Ferguson. Sometimes it’s not what President Obama says as much as it matters what President Obama does. You name me which President that has moved this fast after the killing of a black child.

    Good Day Everyone:-)

I need to share this story that happened to me yesterday…As you know I’ve been down and depressed for the past week.
so I went to the store to do some grocery shopping at “Fresh & Easy” ran into this older white man…he greets me with a smile and say “HI” and says..I never forget a pretty face:-) evidently he mus have seen me there before.. I said thank you and notice he was wearing a beautiful necklace kinda African looking…and complimented him on it. He then he took it off and told me than it was a gift that was given to him by his best friend, when he was fighting in Vietnam.. I thanked him for his service..without asking, he told me he was an AA soldier that died in that war. I had tears..He then went on to re-assure me that..Don’t worry about what;s going on in the world…we’re in this together…gave me a hug…It was so unreal. Felt like he just lifted such huge rock off my shoulders….Humanity at it;s best..coming from a complete stranger…

So yes! Chips Birthday for me ended on a high note:-)
