This be a very brave young lass on Lawrence

    • August 14, 2014 at 10:46 pm

Yes, she is. Quite amazing and under these circumstances, even more so. I’m a 66 year old and I do not think I could do what she did and with the (seemingly) calmness and matter-of-fact manner.

        August 14, 2014 at 10:49 pm

Nor could I – think I would have hidden out for the next 2 weeks!

Yet on Lawrence, they are saying “IF she is believed” – What is there not to believe!

In all fairness the guy on the show ( a prosecuter I think) said he would bring murder charges based on her testimony.

He did – and said she was a good “independent” witness because she did not know the victim – but it was also said “if she is believed”. A jury has to believe her – against the evidence from the police.

I am sure there will be an all white jury because any trial will be moved. White people in America do not convict white cops. That is universal across the country. The cop would only be convicted in a civil lawsuit where there would be a mix of different people on the jury.

Saw Get on Up when it first came out. I recommend this movie. I would have liked to have seen them delve more into Browns adult life but the music and early story of his life was portrayed phenomenally.

      August 14, 2014 at 10:39 pm

I agree Donna. I saw it on opening day. The actor who played Brown deserve some sort of award. I was glad that they did only short scenes of his adult life, because I did not want it to over shadow his music.

And there’s still hard core rightists out there saying “policeman did nothing wrong”! The Police Chief who LIED as to what happened during that shooting should be charged right along with the shooter.

        August 15, 2014 at 12:35 am

The Police Chief should be fired among other things such as militarizing the police and lying.

Something I heard – sorry no link – the police in LA are using the same excuse – he went for my gun – to justify a shooting. They must use google to come up with a defense.

            August 15, 2014 at 12:51 am

Yep. L.A.P.D always use the excuse a minority victim went for his waist band because movies always show black or Hispanics putting their guns in their waistbands although they have NO belt and baggy pants. We need to require all cops to have video on them at all times. These flimsy excuses have cost the lives of many young people.

THIS JUST IN: “Dear white people: the minimum requirement of black friends needed to not seem racist has just been raised to two. Sorry, but your weed man, Tyrone, does not count.”

For the uninitiated, Dear White People is the debut film of writer-director Justin Simien. What started as a concept trailer inspired by Simien’s time at Chapman University led to a Twitter account, @DearWhitePeople and ultimately a full-length feature. The movie takes place at a fictional Ivy League school, Winchester University, where a militant biracial film student hosts a radio show, “Dear White People,” that sounds like a kind of cousin of “Raceteenth or Various Observations About American Blacks (Those Formerly Known As Negroes) By A Non-American Black,” the blog Ifemelu writes in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel Americanah. Other PSAs from “Dear White People” include “Please stop touching my hair. Does this look like a petting zoo to you?” and “Dating a black person to piss off your parents is a form of racism.”

Simien’s satire won this year’s Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent at the Sundance Film Festival. Simien reportedly introduced his film to viewers at Sundance by saying “For all the white people in the audience, on behalf of all the black people in the world, you most definitely have permission to laugh.” Dear White People comes to theaters October 17. Mark your calendars, everyone….via ThinkProgress

An important St. Louis official is unhappy tonight

St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch, the man potentially heading charges against the officer who shot and killed unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, is not happy with Governor Jay Nixon’s decision to put the Missouri Highway Patrol in charge of security in Ferguson.

I hope so. People like that should never have that kind of power to ignore police brutality or whatever…They work FOR the citizens that they serve..not the other way around…we need to clean house with these power hungry/ racist individuals. We need to be proactive and be pushing our country toward a more inclusive, just and fair country…these imbeciles that are living in the past….they need to go. We are a beautiful rainbow…lots of colors and hues…and that’s just the way we want it to be.

    You know it’s bad when . . .

An Iraqi Kurd on the citizens of Ferguson, MO: ‘what did the people of Furguson do wrong & why the police were so angry at them.I feel very bad for them’ If you feel a sudden sinking feeling in your chest, that’s you realizing this Iraqi Kurd’s inevitable disappointment when he or she learns how America really works; that Ferguson’s citizens are not being blanketed in tear gas because they erred and are being justly dispersed by the righteous American police force, as they’d assumed, but because there are deep, systemic problems in American criminal justice that have created what is widely seen as a national disgrace.
