What is that going to accomplish exactly? It’s not like they’re sending Belmar a tweet – they should be contacting his office if they really want him to get the message…furthermore, what does his daughter have to do with anything?!?!? They should be releasing HIS info and confronting HIM directly.

Sorry but I’m not going to be involved in this “Anonymous” sl/hactivism.

Every time these persons have shown up in Oakland, CA…(Oscar Grant to name one) they have caused more arm that good. They made a hot mess of things (which did not help one bit). I got a lot of the young people all hyped up and they did a lot of property damage. I think they are paid to make things worse for the actual citizens who live here in Oakland.

    • August 12, 2014 at 2:57 pm

      They are ****ing sick.

The have NO Right to make any demands…who are they????…..they should be following the lead of the community…this kind of threat to the police puts the blk community at risk….they make htese kinds of demands but they do not have any skin in the game….this is why I do like these folks…they try to make the issue about them…it is never about them…NEVER

WASHINGTON — One day in the fall of 2007, President George W. Bush joined Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki in a video conference to sign a “declaration of principles” on the future of the Iraqi-American relations. As Mr. Bush scrawled his name, Mr. Maliki in Baghdad just passed his pen over his copy, pretending to sign. At the last minute, Mr. Maliki had decided not to sign because he said he had not read the document’s final wording, but he did not mention this to Mr. Bush, who had no idea his counterpart’s pen had not actually touched paper. An American official in the room noticed, however, and as soon as Mr. Bush’s image vanished from the screen, accosted a Maliki aide, saying, “Don’t screw with the president of the United States.”….

…For weeks, the president and his aides have said it was not their role to tell Iraq who its leader should be, but they made eminently clear on Monday that it was time for Mr. Maliki to step aside in favor of Haider al-Abadi, a fellow member of the same Shiite party nominated by President Fuad Masum to be the next prime minister. Mr. Obama and Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. each called Mr. Abadi to congratulate him, and when the president went before cameras on Martha’s Vineyard to repeat that publicly, he pointedly did not mention Mr. Maliki’s name. When a reporter asked if he had a message for Mr. Maliki, the president walked away. That was the message….

…But the fake-signing episode underscored American frustrations. Even though Mr. Maliki later signed the agreement for real, when Iraqi foes plotted to push him out, some in the White House agreed that he should go, including Brett McGurk, the official who had confronted the Maliki aide about the fake signing, and who now works for Mr. Obama….

…Even after Mr. Obama sent advisers and surveillance planes, Mr. Maliki resisted Washington’s advice. American officials warned against trying to retake Tikrit from the Sunni insurgents, but he ignored them. Now Mr. Obama is moving on. Mr. Biden called Mr. Masum, the Iraqi president who nominated Mr. Abadi, to buck him up “to hold firm in the face of pressure” from Mr. Maliki, according to the senior official. Mr. Biden came away impressed with Mr. Abadi, finding him “very different from Maliki,” the official said, “pragmatic and cool headed.”

      HF2 and LP,

He looks so thin — I worry for his well-being, since everything in the world appears to be *his fault*.

Wish he could go for a nice relaxing dinner with Michelle every night of his “vacation.”

      • August 12, 2014 at 3:21 pm

Maybe it’s the lighting? …..From two months ago: Obama aces his latest physical http://www.cbsnews.com/news/obama-aces-his-latest-physical/

        2104: http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/docs/periodic_physical_press_release_june_2014.pdf

Almost identical to 2011: At the time of the exam, the president weighed 181.3 lbs, his heart rate was 67 bpm and his body mass index was 23.9 kg/m2, according to the memo. His temperature was 97.7 degrees.

      • August 12, 2014 at 3:26 pm

he always looks thinner in his down time clothes…the suits add a more girth to his frame…IMO….smilin

        August 12, 2014 at 3:32 pm

He is naturally a very thin man. When you see him in suits he looks bigger but if he takes that jacket off you get to see how thin he really is. I think he looks rather good in this pic. He looks tanned and rested to me.

        • August 12, 2014 at 3:52 pm

Thank you, ((( Donna, PF, LP ))) .

Being a worry wart — I know PBO is the most physically fit President EVER, just concerning to me that he’s getting very little downtime on his vacation. See LDS’ comment on today’s Early Bird thread.

She’s ending her weeklong stay in Sedona — that’s what PBO needs — a week of contemplative and enriching downtime — of course, Presidents are always on call, but I don’t recall so many demands on a President on vacation since the Vietnam war ended.

        • August 12, 2014 at 4:07 pm

He does look great but I do remember the first time I saw him in person. My second thought (after WOWZERS) was surprise at how thin he is. I know he eats well but he also burns it all off. Thank goodness he has the temperament for all this crazy BS.

A friend just posted this on her facebook page apropos of your comments. “Depression, anxiety, and panic attacks are not a sign of weakness. They are signs of having tried to remain strong for so long. 1 in 3 of us go through depression, anxiety , or panic attacks at least once in our lives. Let those who struggle know they are not alone.”

Chips, the image of those proud black men standing tall, arms linked, confronting the police with their mere presence and determination to bear witness is chilling, in a good way.

    • August 12, 2014 at 3:03 pm

It’s one of the most powerful photos I’ve ever seen, LL. Look at the man on the right staring the cop in the face, and the cop refusing to make eye contact.

Pf, but when you think about it, these are two grown men from a small town in Missouri. They should be hanging out having breakfast at the local diner in the morning, not confronting each other like this. Making friendly conversation over diner coffee is what people are supposed to do in a town like this, but this place has gone horribly and tragically wrong.

    Bullet points:

    1) Bombing Iraq is about preserving the status quo; bombing Syria would be about changing the status quo, which is much harder and more open
    2) The US has a local partner that can take the lead in Iraq, but not in Syria
    3) Bombing ISIS in Syria would mean helping Bashar al-Assad
    4) Meanwhile, bombing Assad would help ISIS
    5) The US has legal authority to intervene in Iraq, but not in Syria
    6) Iraq strikes have broad international support, Syria strikes do not

chips, the iconic photo you led with shows a scene that we’d hoped would remain in the days of grainy gray newspaper photos. but it re-appeared in the days of grainy television news. and again with newer cameras. same scene, new photographic technology.

also the police have new technology, with beefed up protections and weapons. the man in front in this picture has clearly served his country in the armed forces. his service, his valor, puts the police department that judges him by his skin color to shame.

there have always been men and women of valor in these photos, but the new technology supporting the protesters is social media– the photos and on-the-ground news are circulating and repeating this message. the message? this is still happening in america. we must make this right.

In regards to the horrific images coming out of Ferguson, this article from June is an example writ large of Police Depts. turning into paramilitary organizations….

War Gear Flows to Police Departments: http://t.co/bzIKOL2AIh

…The equipment has been added to the armories of police departments that already look and act like military units. Police SWAT teams are now deployed tens of thousands of times each year, increasingly for routine jobs. Masked, heavily armed police officers in Louisiana raided a nightclub in 2006 as part of a liquor inspection. In Florida in 2010, officers in SWAT gear and with guns drawn carried out raids on barbershops that mostly led only to charges of “barbering without a license.”…

…When the military’s mine-resistant trucks began arriving in large numbers last year, Neenah and places like it were plunged into the middle of a debate over whether the post-9/11 era had obscured the lines between soldier and police officer. “It just seems like ramping up a police department for a problem we don’t have,” said Shay Korittnig, a father of two who spoke against getting the armored truck at a recent public meeting in Neenah. “This is not what I was looking for when I moved here, that my children would view their local police officer as an M-16-toting, SWAT-apparel-wearing officer.”

A quiet city of about 25,000 people, Neenah has a violent crime rate that is far below the national average. Neenah has not had a homicide in more than five years. “Somebody has to be the first person to say ‘Why are we doing this?’ ” said William Pollnow Jr., a Neenah city councilman who opposed getting the new police truck….

    • August 12, 2014 at 3:38 pm

This is the subject that I hope all US citizens rally around, regardless of skin color or party affiliation.

The militarization of our police force has been going on for years, under the radar from most of our clueless MSM.

Local reporting has covered some of this police state creep, can only locate this article for now (recall that ABQ PD shot and killed a white homeless man on a hiking trail for illegal camping):

      Some progress on this front:

ABQ PD are under DOJ investigation — Ferguson PD have far outstepped the boundaries of “protecting and serving.”

note the ‘contraband hit rate’ on the searches of white people stopped, versus the hit rate on black people stopped. now check the ‘search rate’. so for about twice the rate of searches, the black suspects had half the rate of contraband discovered. black citizens are then arrested at twice the rate of white citizens. this is a damning report of institutionalized racism. the only bright note is that the report exists at all.

Believe it or not, she has a really huge online following. I’d have to say that It’s more prevalent on Facebook than Twitter. I have all sorts of issues with this woman but I guess I can understand why woman are so “giddy” about the idea of her being President. They figure it’s their last best hope or some foolishness like that….

When you are being told that you are inevitable (by an agenda driven media) and all these woman are lining up to see you speak you think your $hit doesn’t stink. Then you forget where your bread is buttered. Lose the Obama supporters and you’ll lose the nomination. She doesn’t understand that she needs to keep her nose out of PBO’s business less she fall prey politically just like 2007/2008. Unfortunately for her she has learned NOTHING since that historical campaign.

As far as 2014 goes I’ll let you in on a little secret…HRC is not that great of a campaigner. Her husband is good at campaigning and motivating people but Hillary not so much IMO. Whatever you think of Bill Clinton he has a way of moving his audience. She doesn’t have that gift. Her followers are all about her. 2014 isn’t even on their radar. So she doesn’t even think about how these kinds of comments from her will play out in 2014.

She maybe in for another rude awakening.

The inevitability factor seems to still be dictating behaviors in HRC’s campaigning. It smells like an elitist attitude not imagining it is necessary to ask for support or respect from her past opponents’ followers. The lying and misrepresenting the facts part of her previous campaigning is probably still there.

          • August 12, 2014 at 5:42 pm

I see what you’re saying but I think one of the main reasons she’s not campaigning for 2014 is she’s too frightened of the risk. She won’t stick her neck out unless it’s clear the candidate is a shoo-in. I have a sneaking suspicion Bill is greasing the wheels for her, especially in KY so she can claim she was the one who booted McConnell.

But whatever, I’m just fed up with her meddling in PBO’s business. There are extreme tensions in the ME and we don’t need her bug-eyed analysis and foreign policy gibberish ideas muddying the waters. She has no business second-guessing POTUS on any of this.

Perfectly stated by PBO. I wonder tho, why he is expected to release a statement on almost everything that happens anywhere in the country—-why people demand it. I remember no such expectation of any other president.

Well most could never deliver statements so eloquently & so often…also I honestly believe he cares & is not afraid to add his voice unlike others who would shy away.

    we see selfish individuals continuously trying to make 2014 about their political ambitions rather than focus on the dire need to do ALL we can to ensure that PBO gets a Democratic majority in the House and Senate;

there is so much on the line for the middle class and the poor this Nov – why can’t some politicians see that????

I took a pledge not to comment on the speeches and actions of these selfish politicians but I must admit that it is very hard to keep this pledge
