Nice to see you in first place, Don! I’m way behind on TOD posts this week.

NBC and MSNBC are making moves designed to take them entirely out-of-contention for political weight.
We NEED a real news network so badly.

Locally, Bob Herbert has a 1/2 hour show following Bill Moyesr 1/2 hour show.

Please not Bob Herbert, Bob Herbert is a sleepy Eugene Robinson. All the times I’ve seen Bob Herbert on t.v. he has had nothing but negative things to say about President Obama.

I remember as a kid that every Sunday I would watch “Face the Nation” and then “This Week”. “Meet the Press” was always the red-headed stepchild. Glad to see that tradition is continuing.

I remeber all the sunday talk shows, my father would make my brother and I sit down with him and watch them. Can you imagine a five and six year old watching the sunday talk shows? Funny thing is my son jumps in the bed with me on sunday mornings and we both watch them, I don’t make him watch he just does it on his own.

You know the expressions, “easy as shooting fish in a barrel”? Well that is what mocking this new choice is. So many things to say, so little time. I am not even tweeting about this decision. Twitterdom is already overloaded with tweets describing the awfulness.

Here’s the thing. Gregory always seemed to me to know he was just going along with the gimmick.

Todd is actual sincere and thinks he is something that all Americans are craving in their news. He actually believes he is God’s gift to journalism. At least, if he is doing this, maybe he won’t be attending the press conferences any more. And when he fails, and he will, he will be tossed aside to the curb and forgotten as dogs piss on him as they walk by.

    A well deserved fate.

My question is “How come people like Chuckie (and Gregory) never know when they are hopelessly out of their league – when to say ‘Thanks, but no thanks.’?”

      August 11, 2014 at 4:29 pm

I think Chuck Todd needed to stay in the role he occupied in 2008 when he was the numbers guy standing in front of the maps. He was promoted out of his niche after that, only he thinks he is deserving. I think he suits the managements needs of promoting the RW talking points. The fact that he is not intellectually curious and does not have a journalism (any) degree only means that will not get in the way of the management mission.

‘Defying the historical norm, August gasoline prices nationwide are currently bumping along at $3.48 a gallon, a four-year low, according to the travel and leisure group AAA.

It’s the peak of driving season and conflict is raging across the Middle East, but U.S. refineries have hit record production through access to “abundant supplies” of North American crude, AAA spokesman Michael Green said.

Prices have fallen “almost every day for six weeks, which is highly unusual and the opposite of what we usually see this time of the year,” Green said.

July and August are the busiest driving months of the year, he added.

There’s smart, the ability to have knowledge, and then there’s intelligence, the ability to know what to do with your knowledge and the ability to distinguish between reality and what you think might be reality.

      Ronan is definitely not intelligent.

My brother was a big black guy and he would run in the supermarket as a young teenager and she would say ‘you can’t do that,'”

      —-

Why did he speak of him in the past tense ? ” was a big black guy “.

I have never seen any teenager ” run ” in to a supermarket in my life.

Jane Fonda and her then former CA Assemblyman, Husband, raised a daughter who is an African American. Ms Fonda said one time, that she loves her daughter. She tried to protect and empower her, but she could never protect her as much as she tried nor could she fully live the daily life of her daughter’s “Blackness” in America. I hope I didn’t mis-speak here. The word “Blackness” is mine…… word inserted, not Ms. Fonda’s word. I just could not remember the exact word used by Ms. Fonda.

aloha vc! right now, it’s clear, warm, beautiful–and muggy. lots of small branches, leaves, flowers, and whatsits to be raked up, but only one tree shed an actual limb. amazing to watch the trees bending to the ground in the wind gusts! our banana trees look like palms, their leaves totally shredded, but they’re still upright, and with big bunches of bananas at the top–thought for sure they’d go over. in short, we’re fine, and extremely grateful!

BTW, at the mention of bananas, do people eat green bananas in Hawaii?

What I’d like to see happen in Ferguson is for tons of white people to join the marchers. Some are, but many more need to get out there and show support. They should chant, “We’re mad as hell, too, and we’re not going to take it any more!” Let the police and the haters know it’s everybody involved in taking back their city and their freakin’ humanity.

  19. August 11, 2014 at 4:10 pm

    @owillis’ tweet was spot on.

@chucktodd and @politico are single-handedly responsible for the crap the MSM now considers “political” reporting because they got so much attention during 2008, the once-in-a-lifetime, first-election-since-1968-where-no-incumbent/VP-was-on-the-Presidential-ticket. MSM now considers the horserace the only thing (literally) that you need to know to be a “political” reporter. Shameful.

    Repeating myself from R&S:

Who wants to ruin their Sunday morning seeing the snarling upchuck? Would like to see a more avuncular (Charles Kuralt) type, such as Willie Geist or Thomas Roberts or Joy Reid. Think viewers would too.

Aside: I still clearly recall seeing upChuck snarlingly describe President Obama’s “Firms” ad (the one which used the flapping American flag and R-money’s voice as it showed empty US company locations which moved overseas) as “nasty.” He spat the word out. This was on the old half hour Chris Matthews show that aired at 4:30 or 5:30 am Sundays in the Los Angeles market.

      You are So Kind.

Nope. I am 180 of your assumption.

The Tabloid-ish of the Media and the feverish 24/7 in politicking everything……was in Vogue from 1993-2001 Jan. The Media was checked into submission by the well organized rightie Media from Jan 20, 2001 to Aug 2005, after Katrina. The Media went on over-drive since Jan 20th, 2009. Unfortunately, the DNC is not a match for them. The Dems across the nation when they write and complain, they are ignored. Until wealth Dems find the need to push for change in the News Media to support the grassroots as Fox and the rightie mega echo chamber are doing for the GOP……The Media will not stilt back to a true factually based reporting.

President Obama Speaks on the Latest Political Developments in Iraq
    Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts
    http://www.whitehouse.gov/live

    • August 11, 2014 at 4:25 pm

Likely a portion of President Obama’s comments will be focused on ….

“Change of Iraq guard: A new chance against Islamists
Choice of Shi’ite Ibadi as premier may help heal rift with Sunni tribes, bring U.S. aid.

The Islamic State’s systematic extermination of the Yazidi minority and the horrifying pictures of radical Islamists’ children carrying around the heads their fathers chopped off have been vying for attention with a political crisis that threatened to destroy the central government in Baghdad.

In the north, Kurdish Peshmerga forces were beginning an offensive against those of the Islamic State, aided by the U.S. and Iraqi air forces, while in Baghdad, Shi’ite and Kurdish parties were fighting each other over the appointment of a new prime minister.

The political war officially ended on Monday, when Iraqi President Fuad Masum, a Kurd, tapped the Shi’ite Haider al-Ibadi to form a new government. The move ended the reign of Nouri al-Maliki, who had been prime minister for eight years. Dr. Ibadi, 62, is a member of Maliki’s Dawa party and until Monday served as deputy parliament speaker. He won the support of a majority of the National Alliance, a parliamentary bloc comprised of Dawa and several other Shi’ite parties, and even of many members of Dawa itself.

The choice of Ibadi stemmed from widespread public, political and international opposition to Maliki continuing in office. Maliki had acted like an elected dictator, putting his cronies in senior government jobs and freezing Sunnis out of the corridors of power.”

Just one difference…..Yes Donna, I am going there….so snobbish of me 😉

At least, DG finished college and graduated. Todd will be a complete disaster. Russert died 6 yrs ago. It took a while for MTP to sink to 3rd….after FTN and This Week on ABC. Todd, I am predicting now will soon be running neck and neck with Fox Sunday and eventually, depending on how long NBC allows Todd, MTP will be cleaning the ratings with the Spanish Sunday Talk show.

Marvelous. A move in the right direction as the technology and skills needed are constantly expanding. Welcome, Mikey.

When most companies and corporations were becoming computerized in the 1980’s to 2008, we had Presidents who were not concerned with Government agencies becoming more computerized and efficient because our Government was run by computer illiterates like Reagan, Bush I, Bush II and when Bill Clinton was in office because Al Gore there was probably more so than the other three. I believe that if Al Gore had become President many of these agencies would be completely technology efficient. PBO is the first computer savy president.

I can’t wait to see PBO and hear what he has to tell us.
Proving once again that this hard-working man can play golf, go to the beach and keep his eagle eye on our country.
I love that we get to hear from PBO while he is vacationing and if that is very selfish of me I admit to being a bit greedy in this respect.
