A celebrity’s death shouldn’t matter much in the scheme of things. But Robin Williams touched millions of lives via his art. And the manner of his death—probably suicide—and the cause—months of battling severe depression—are epidemics in this country. Sometimes the loneliest place is surrounded by loved ones who don’t understand.

“Sometimes the loneliest place is surrounded by loved ones who don’t understand.”
So true
🙂
Hey there Bob, and thank you for this post LL – Robin was a very unique gem. Your quote is so very true – my grandfather committed suicide when my mother was 2 yrs old – when told about him, when I was 10 or so, I wondered how very sad he must have been. Robin will forever remain the wonderful quick minded soul who made me laugh like no other.
“Robin will forever remain the wonderful quick minded soul who made me laugh like no other.”
Same for me, Judy. He was incomparable and I loved him for all the laughter he brought into my life and the lives of my family and friends.
Very true
Yes it is, Bobfr! Loved so much of Robin Williams’ work. Good Morning Vietnam remains a favorite. Many thanks to LL for this tribute.
“Many thanks to LL for this tribute.” Most definitely, Judith!!!
Thanks, Bob and Judith.
So true Bobfr. I lost my youngest son to suicide 11 years ago and being so overcome with grief, I spent several months contemplating my own suicide. It made sense to me at the time, as all I could see was darkness. I have two other wonderful sons and five grandchildren. I also had a mother that I adored but I just couldn’t see past the darkness. Thank God I had enough strength to see a tiny ray of light, sought help and got through it. I find so much joy now, my family, my friends, my pets, the Presidents campaign, and TOD. I am truly blessed.
Very touching and generous of you to share your story with us, Jackie. Am so grateful you made it through the darkness and are here with us and your family, today.
Thank you Bob. I am too.
Jackie, it takes enormous courage to fight back against that level of grief. My heart goes out to your for what you endured, What a great gift you gave your surviving sons and grandchildren by reaching out to that tiny light.
I’m so sorry about the loss of your son, Jackie. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
When you are in so much pain, you really don’t see how much pain and guilt we leave behind. You just think our families will be better off without us. I attempted suicide about 8 years ago, when I talked to the counselor she told me that suicide isn’t a selfless but a selfish act.
You nailed it sjterrid. That is exactly where I was and my son was. I am so glad you came through that darkness and are here with us.
Thank you. I’m so glad you shared this with us.
It’s one of the reasons I like TOD so much. It gives me hope that a majority of people want everybody to be treated equally and fairly, and we can appreciate the differences and learn from one another.
Oh Jackie, my heart goes out to you. I can’t comprehend losing your child that way. Know that you are wrapped in the arms of love here at TOD.
Oh, Jackie, I’m just seeing this. I have one child – a son – and I could feel what you were describing, even though I haven’t had to go through it. Sending a loving embrace to my O’sister!
❤ J4O ❤
What an amazing Administration our President Obama has created. That is beyond touching!!
Bobfr, I made a similar remark Saturday morning in relation to the calibre of members of the O-Admin! At the time I was commenting on the fact that Sec. Jewell seems to be as hard a worker as Sec. Kerry.
Agree with you VC re: Sec Jewell. I had no doubt about her level of commitment when she accepted the nomination. She is a FORCE, as folk in the PNW learned long ago!!
My thoughts of the administration personnel our admired President has put together shows their respect and desire to work hard for PBO. Our Prez is a role model for those serving in his pleasure as was said in the famous tv show West Wing.
Responded to you on the previous thread, after LL put up this one.

Such a gorgeous park, most beautiful National Park in the lower 48 (plus Waterton Canada, too!) IMHO.
For National Forest, my vote is cast my vote for El Dorado National Forest (near Lake Tahoe, but in CA). The explosion of wildflowers in mid-to-late July is not to be believe (high altitude, almost 10K feet).
Incredible tributes to Robin Williams, he touched so many people. RIP.
Arapaho, whenever I read about your experiences with nature (weather/etc) and places across North America, I think you must travel an awful lot. I don’t even know where Waterton is, and have probably only been to, at most, three national parks here, most likely after someone nagged at me. . Honestly, if you’d invited me to see the wildflowers in late July, I’d probably have reminded you that there’d likely be lots of annoying insects around. I don’t really understand my attachment to @Interior and places I’m VERY unlikely to ever see, except that I find most of their pictures pretty.
so thoughtful
Well LL, you made me cry!
Stay classy, media

Aww! 😦
Our President always knows what to say.
Because it comes from his heart.
Yes. Always.
Our president always, always makes the perfect statement, which he draws from his own deep well of compassion.
Just in case anyone thinks its going well for Vlad ….
Dude, that’s gross!!
Why do you do this …. Why ….
Yeah, you’d never see a soccer team or basketball team doing that at practice.
Our Consoler-in-Chief, our President.
This seems heartfelt, genuine.
Even though he’s on vacation, it wouldn’t surprise me if President Obama penned this himself.
I hate how so many people seek as many ways to diminish our President as possible.
Also, that YouTube posted on the last thread of Robin Williams tearing apart GWB was great.
I’d forgotten what an amazing impersonator he was. One of the best, if not the best ever.
Here’s the video, posted by rikyrah on the previous thread:
I watched it. Hilarious!!!!!!!!!! What a master.
EVERYONE should watch this – not only to remember Robin Williams – but also to remind themselves what might have happened without PBO.
I was an early Mork & Mindy watcher – good memories
Dudette, you have a preternatural gift for always, always finding the perfect statement, song, or photo. I don’t know how you do it, but I stand it awe of it.
x 2
Thanks!
Aw, thanks jackie! You’re too kind.
Thank you, Robin.
You were one of a kind.
Send this to chuck Todd please?
Could you ease up on the bad news?.There’s a lot to handle right now. Be at peace for awhile, Jovie.
Um…Marist? The same pollsters who said in 2012 that Virginia and Florida had already gone for Willard so he pulled out his resources?
Yep, that Marist. Forgive me if I don’t set my bald head on fire.
So?
It’s brutal and horrifying at moments …. and at other moments it’s quite beautiful ….
Have no idea how this comment landed here instead of at the bottom of the thread ….
Twitter is something Vlad never anticipated or understands ….
Robin Williams touched my spirit in such a beautiful way that I will remember that joy always. My gentle respect goes out to his family tonight.HZ
Oh Bob!!!!! Just beautifully said!!!!!
He did Doc Bobfr. He was was with Us for 63 yrs. That public Robin Williams managed to keep the private Williams in balance for 63 yrs. That is Huge. RIP Robin Williams.
Richard Pryor Made it to 65. They were tops in their Generation.
After last night, I have chosen to see it this way……perhaps, it’s wrong….I don’t know.
This is my favorite movie of his.
@nycjim is doing a good job of capturing the tributes and jogging our collective memories about Robin Williams.
But what is with the “kickstarter to ID the writer of @BarackObama’s Robin Williams statement”? Like I said to HF2 upthread, the press does everything it can to marginalize and diminish the greatest President in living memory, on every.single.thing.
For those youngun’s who don’t remember, Mork & Mindy was truly a cultural phenomenon, during the time of double-digit inflation and national malaise:
Thank you Arapahoe415, what wonderful tributes.
Meanwhile in Ferguson
Let this sink in for a second…..no words!
Where are the Major, the Governor….This needs to stop!!!!!
Unfortunately it appears that Ferguson is under county jurisdiction, which effectively means no jurisdiction — pretty much the militia, non-government society the Libertarians subscribe to.
Governor Jay Nixon must stop cowering and show some leadership on this.
The media needs to step up and report what the police are doing, not continue to be a mouthpiece for this appalling taxpayer-paid organization.
Governor Jay Nixon (Dem) needs to do something now (said this last night, meaning today) with this out-of-control local military assault against citizens of Jefferson County.
The President’s statement on Robin Williams is so beautiful. I honestly and selfishly love the gift of Barack Obama – more than him being president –as a beautiful writer and thinker.
Did you see what’s going on in the twitterverse (see my post upthread with sesame street tweet or go to @nycjim’s timeline).
The most heartfelt, genuine, touching tribute, and of course, it *had* to be written by someone else. However the media can diminish this President, they do it. Very tiresome.
Why would anyone want to go see this crap!!!
Most of the Twitter responses to our President’s tribute were overwhelmingly positive.
But of course, there are always some in the MSM/GOP wing (usually the same ones all the time) who have something negative to say about everything PBO says or does…and this time is no exception.
Good grief. Haven’t they seen the markups that POTUS does on all of the speeches that are written for him?? By the time it’s done it’s probably 90% him.
Absolutely!
It’s been five years, but the MSM still hasn’t learned that PBO’s speechwriters do the legwork (research to provide historical context) and build the framework, perhaps add flourishes and humor, but the words spoken by President Obama are his own and reflect his core beliefs and longterm strategic thinking from a multi-national and domestic perspective.
LovePolitics2008 had it right — MSM seethe because they write for a living, and they know that they could never be as a good a writer as Barack Obama.
Not sure if this clip with the “Gooood morning Vietnam” intro has been posted tonight, but it was something many of us (of the Vietnam generation) will never forget!
I just got punched in the gut. I had no idea that Robin Williams passed away….at work all day. I am so sad for his family and for all of humanity. He was smart and so gifted and talented. I will miss him. We need to laugh..so sorry that his inner demons seemed to get the best of him. RIP.
Oh Nooooooo!
Robin Williams?
When/How?
It is getting out of hand…..for many of these HATERS. Seriously?
It’s not enough for them to Etch-A-Sketch pres Obama out of history and the public minds…..they want to unman and dehumanize every essence of him as a man of Color.
I remembered how Trump and the wicked followers were saying pres Obama didn’t write his 1st book. Now they have to deny him a Memorial Tribute to The Williams family?
Have their bigots No Shame? Coming from the 98% who cover this president and who are NEVER questioned of their racial animus.
I was hoping that there were civic leaders…church leaders who could calm the protestors….but sometimes violence has a way of taking on a life of its own….but then the instigation of the police in the riot gear is adding fuel to the fire….
.
It must sometimes be terrible to be an artist; to be one of those who sees to the heart of life in ways that most of us cannot; to be able to take the terrible/beautiful essence of life and distill it in a painting, a poem, a sculpture, or through music, acting, and the type of comedy that echoes the true purpose that was set forth my the ancient Greeks. There seems to be a type of beautiful madness that helps the artist to create, but can also cause destruction. So many of the artist of all genres whose works uplifted us left us much too soon. Rest in peace, Robin Williams. “may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
Eloquent truths. Thank you CEB..
Beautiful.
Liberia will receive an untested experimental drug, Zmapp, to treat people infected with Ebola, the Liberian government says. The move came after a request to the US from Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the government said. The news came as medical ethics specialists met in Geneva to explore the use of such new treatments. The World Health Organization, which is hosting the meeting, says some 1,013 have died from Ebola in West Africa. “The experimental drugs are to be brought in the country by a representative of the US government later this week,” a statement on the Liberian president’s website said….continued

I am taking Mr. Robin Williams passing very hard;
I never met him in person ;
but what little of him I saw on and off screen, I loved and treasured and I was not ashamed to publicly talk about this admiration;
Rest in Peace , Mr. Williams!
My your family and friends find some comfort
I so understand globalcitizenlinda, we lived in Boulder when Mork & Mindy was on. Saw him several times ate next to him and Pam Dawber, a couple of times. He was so nice to us, very funny. My husband was so proud because Robin ordered the same wine my husband had just ordered. He was such a special person. He will be missed.
yes he will be missed
