Probably a mixed bag. I don’t know the statistics, but I think a lot of police are either former military or come from “police families.” Some are interested in the “protect and serve” part, of course, and are good people. For the hotheads and the haters and those with limited physical attributes if ya get my drift, I’m guessing they think why train for weaponized conflict, if they’re never going to put it in motion? Unfortunately, sometimes that’s the police chiefs who feel that way and have all the power to overly respond to protests, often hiding behind the fact that “the community” (usually meaning the white community and white elected officials) wants to feel “safe.”
teh awesome swat team mentality (as fetishized and worshiped in many teevee cop dramas and hollywood movies) to every minor incident seems to be the root cause of all police violence. I rarely see brits and eewropeans doing it, either iin real life or in phantasy world.
Don’t forget part of our history is the ol’ Wild West syndrome, also part of our American literature- or Hollywood-produced fetish lists. Most people know all that is either in the past or fictional, but some are still looking to hop on their figurative steeds and ride again.
That first sentence from the tweet (“in lead-up to Palestinian election”) may help discount their sincerity. They’ve fooled the Palestinian people before with all kinds of promises. But if your call that it looks promising going forth is correct, I’m all for it, of course.
Thank you LL for all of the lovely music. Music is such a wonderful gift to all of us during such difficult times. I find my most inner peace with music, poetry, and my candles. You always know how to lift our hearts and minds with your wisdom with words and your choice of music. TY.
Also a huge hug to our wonderful Chips for keeping this beautiful place for all of us to come together and share the facts, interact with respect to each other and respect and support for our wonderful President.
I am totally grateful for all of my TOD family members. We have such a great family here due to the great work of our Chips in keeping this place from the nonsense. Together we will celebrate joyful a beautiful new beginning for Jackie 4 Obama tomorrow. All goodness and beautiful energy going forth to you lovely granddaughter’s precious gift coming into the family. I pray for all things good to be yours, Jackie and family.
A lot of cake this week, I hope. Donna and someone else very special on our calendar. Goodnight, my loving TOD family. We will make it through all of this as long as we stay together and focused on those things that will lift each other up and especially lift up our wonderful President and his Administration.
Enjoy your vacation, Mr. President. Even though we know you are always working, we are still elated that you and FLOTUS are getting some much needed relaxation as well. You deserve every moment of it all, Mr. President. We love you and we are behind you all the way. #FORWARDTogether. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ Goodnight/Morning, my loving TOD family.}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}HZ
Got in from work a few minutes ago, went straight to the rooftop, saw the super moon as it was lifting above the treetops, took some pics, and watered my tomatoes in blissful solitude!! Then two of the other astrologers appeared, Oh Wow! said they! I had to leave them to the bliss, as my kitty was awaiting, and MP is tired tonight. Try to rest, dear TODObots, we must all be strong and resilient to best help our President. The Moral Arc of the Universe is long, but it bends toward Justice. Remember he said the mighty ship will not turn quickly, but I believe in my Heart, it is turnng now, and we are the force behind all this Change. Goodnight.
On a far different note, the conversations continue on twitter and elsewhere, generated by people trying to thrust HRC down everybody else’s throats, with those who spray Raid on themselves to avoid her. I particularly like this retort:
I honestly don't understand why so many ppl want Hillary. She's progressive as a pay phone @JAPITTER@marcylauren @00mouser @WeWantWarren
Reminds me of the ’60s, a totally insane time. There were also voices then who could speak up and calm situations, strictly because people knew their civil rights records and trusted them. Other than President Obama, who can’t be expected to DO EVERYTHING BY HIMSELF, I’m wondering how many have the gravitas to speak up, now.
I watched a piece of that and was not surprised how often the officer used ‘scary’. He wasn’t there last night, but a couple scary of the scary officers who were spoke scary situation to him when they scary were signing off. They were scary in their gear, luckily none of the scary officers were hurt, or people, but two officers were, one hurt his knee, he wasn’t sure scary if that was there, another got hit by a brick he thought, scary, scary, scary. I guess it isn’t scary to have hundreds of police car come to your neighbourhood with police dogs and riot gear and whatever else and instead of trying to give answers and calm the situation they bring more and more reinforcements. No, not scary at all!

It’s Monday, I think! Hi, TODobots. It’ll probably be a long day!
Hi, JO’B. My spirits have improved somewhat from the initial ‘O God, NOT again! Even rabid animals are dispatched from this life with greater compassion!’ Now I’m keeping a side eye on Ferguson to hear and see what follows.
Luckily, the reporter from one of the NBC affiliates in St. Louis is calling citizen reactions in Ferguson “this movement,” carefully keeping away from using “riot” – obviously, so as not to instigate or spread rumors, where there is very little actual reporting available. Whoever gave them that talking point was smart (for a change, although locals are far better than national reporters these days, of course).
Thanks LL. You have been a champ today!
Thanks, v. 🙂
Evening LL
Hey Judy. Every time I see you comment I hear this song in my head:
Well, if that doesn’t make my night!!! Proud to be among your 4400 followers!
Thank you LL.
You’re very welcome, Jackie.
And yet, humanity endures.
Beautiful!
weaponize any conflict seems to be the motto in most of the US police depts.

Music helps us ask ourselves questions to seek answers, while soothing our souls at the same time, LL. Thanks so much.
Hope it brings some calm, J O’B.
This seems to be a good solution… as long as the PD doesn’t doctor the footage.
There would have to be a civilian authority storing the footage, but, yes, Rialto’s experience is heartening.

“You won’t hear me criticize how oppressed people react to be oppressed tonight.”
this is the key right here.
Ok gentles, off to wind down. See everyone tomorrow.
Looks like Hamas has dropped the destruction of Israel in its charter. We’ll see what happens, looks promising though.
Excellent news, Jeff. What excuse does Bibi have now? (Rhetorical question.)
Goodnight all.
good night! 🙂
meant dropping. Things are looking better though.

I really don’t know to be honest… I trust Hamas as much as I trust the Israeli government at this point.
True that. Fingers crossed something changes for the better on both sides!
The story that links to dates to 2006. It predates the Palestinian parliamentary election which Hamas won. Hmmmmm
Hmmmm, in_deed, Bill.

Just a tidbit before I go check out the super moon.
shit there’s complete and utter chaos in Ferguson right now! 😦
Any pictures or footage of the President and family in Martha’s Vineyard??
Not sure if this has been posted yet.

lol! So true! I can’t stand Hillary, dislike her more due to those interviews.
She made me cringe in ’08, and looks like that’ll never change! Eek.
“She’s progressive as a pay phone”
FORWARD not backward.
Never again #nomoreclintons
Never again!!!!!
This is getting insane!

I don’t know… I think more and more riots are going to be hitting because of all these black teens getting killed by trigger happy cops.
You’re not the only one thinking that, for sure.

VC – Just reading this – well said. Hang in there!
Hi, JO’B. My spirits have improved somewhat from the initial ‘O God, NOT again! Even rabid animals are dispatched from this life with greater compassion!’ Now I’m keeping a side eye on Ferguson to hear and see what follows.
It’s all sickening.
Yes, and painful too. The seeming inexorability of it breeds cynicism, even in the breast of the most patient among us.
Well said.

St. Louis NBC affiliate reporter just stated that Rev. Sharpton will be going to Ferguson tomorrow, to meet with Michael Brown’s family members.
Goodnight, TODville. Pray for peace – and social and legal justice – everywhere.
good night TOD
Morning everyone!
