So, does this mean PBO has to end his vacation? I believe in my heart, one of the reasons (many) whites hate black people, is they know deep in some rational place in their unconsciousness, their/our ancestors were wrong, wrong, wrong, to steal people from their homeland, enslaving them, taking away all human rights and taking away the very humanity of a people who have survived on this Earth longer than most. This deep-seated guilt, and denial, consumes most white people. So they blame the very ones they stole living freedom from, as if that is an excuse. In general, this lack of consciousness is why so many of the same old tired plots and stories are played ad nauseam, throughout our great society.

    • August 9, 2014 at 11:56 pm

MP my heart sank when I read your opening.

JHC, the media blames every ill in the world on PBO (recall @MaeveReston’s tweet — which I think she has since deleted that Libya turmoil, Hurricane Irene and an earthquake happened during PBO’s 2011 vacay, no so subtly suggesting that natural disasters are PBO’s fault.

Now MSM will expect PBO to speak for an out of control racist police department in a state that he visited recently (Kansas City MO) — so PBO is responsible for every global crisis, man-made or not AND for the racist actions of municipal PD — never has an American President been held responsible for things out of his control, yet the media demands answers from him.

Damn, I wish he and the First Family could vacation in an undisclosed location.

Shot 10 times for stealing some candy, what was the candy made of gold? That is just how much a black person life is value to some people, it isn’t. There is no way a 17 year old white kid would be gun down by policemen like that.

Nowhere can we feel safe in this country. Not in the blue states, not in the red states. Nowhere. It is a horror that in one’s own country (a so called developed nation), one has to constantly fear being killed because of the color of one’s skin.

Had a good friend say to me few weeks ago that it hurts her to say it but she feels PO’s presidency has made racism/race relations much worse. That’s the way she said it though she probably meant it has brought it to the surface. She is a Dem and strong PO supporter. In fact, John Dingell is her husband’s uncle.

I have no words – It is close to impossible for me to understand this happening to someone’s children and grandchildren. The control that is stopping a massive uprising comes only from those who work 24X7 fighting racism, those who preach from the right encourage these actions by the so called Law Enforcers.

Good that you have personal knowledge of what’s going on down there.

As we know, the media is worthless and cannot be trusted.

Completely understand the shock and rage, and the feeling that something needs to be done — and understand that you’re in no mood for sleep right now.

But agree with Layla, TODville needs you, loves you — when you’re gone for a bit up north, someone asks on every thread “Where’s Yardarm,” so I’m not just blowing smoke.

Look forward to hearing your righteous rants — we have to get these out-of-control police departments out of their military mindset — citizens are not their enemy, they are our public servants.

              Take care.

I know how you feel, yardarm! My anger is also palpable! I don’t have a son, but today I had to call my two nephews, and two of my grand nephews, who are on the East Coast, just to hear their voices. I just couldn’t stop replaying in my mind all the horrors black folks have endured. Another teenager black son gone, in an instant, just because he was Black. May God give strength to his parents to endure the horror. No parent should ever loose a child. Losing a child because he was black is even more devastating.

Layla, Bobfr, Gx2: This has knocked the wind out of my sails, and in moments like these it’s best I don’t talk. When will this end? Why aren’t law enforcement trained to shoot to disarm, or to delay when no weapons are involved? Why aren’t they assessed psychologically before they are hired? I don’t care WHAT he “allegedly” stole. I don’t believe even an animal would be shot so many times! This is too much. I can’t talk about it and keep my cool. I’m here for a while longer, I just don’t have anything worth saying and a lot of bubbling resentment towards such inhumanity!

It’s times like this we need RFK.

A true white elite who could speak truth to power and be listened to, and not be framed as playing the “race card” which unfortunately is how the media reacts when a non-white, non-wealthy person voices his/her opinion in cases like Michael Brown (RIP, Chips said it best, 17 forever).

Small consolation, I heard the first mention of this on CBS network radio news at the top of this hour (yeah, way to spread the word, CBS, 11 pm EDT on a Saturday night), but Jeff was right — the white elite media is hoping this goes away. But it won’t.

Sorry to be such a boomer, but it’s been 46 years since his assassination and my 14-year-old self cannot believe that we haven’t had a string of political leaders to follow in his footsteps.

StLPD needs to follow Albuquerque PD’s (!) example.

Albuquerque PD is under Justice Department investigation because they shot an unarmed (white) homeless man earlier this year for illegal camping. There was outrage out west that the punishment for illegal camping was the death penalty. @Lawrence aired several lengthy reports on this incident before his hospitalization due to a cab crash overseas. (Not entirely comparable — the homeless man apparently wielded a small knife (of no threat to the officers who greatly outnumbered this lone individual on a hiking trail) but APD completely overreacted, IMHO.

No police department needs military equipment used for warfare, yet much of the surplus military equipment are being scooped up by police departments across the country.

The whites have a new set of people to be bigoted against — Hispanics and Asians.

But to be fair, bigoted whites may resent Hispanics and Asians, they don’t fear them as they do Blacks, hence the “shoot first, ask questions later” mentality that is reinforced by municipalities and states (i.e., Stand Your Ground laws).

The media seem to think that Twitter is for the twentysomething crowd, but I know a few people in that age group and they are not into Twitter. They’re into actually doing things, and pretty oblivious to global events.

It’s good for Twitter to have that hip image (for their stock price) but I think its popularity lies with people who are curious about what’s happening outside their own world (not counting the trolls and spammers, of course).

My heart is flooded with so much pain, so I will keep my thoughts there and try to allow some quietness to take charge as I prepare my soul to be saturated with those things that will give me strength to send forth to the parents and family of this family of this young man’s life having been taken.

I just want to give Yardarm the most large warm hugs possible tonight. {{{{{{{{{ Yardarm, I do understand, and I love you.}}}}}}}}}} Take your time to choose your peace for these awful moments that we have to witness again. I too knew Emmett Till. My dear neighbors were his relatives and those were very difficult days for all of us. Several of my family members were a part of that work that summer. Long nights and days of difficult times for my family. So be strong, my dear Yardarm, please. However, I do understand where you are tonight I am not too far from you with my painful thoughts, but know that we all are family here who care with so much love for you, my dear Yardarm.

These are ugly days rearing up their old and disgraceful hatefulness ; however my eyes, ears, and mind have been though too much to lean toward choices that would land me in places where these enemies would love to count me as just another number to them. I have too much love to still carry around with me of my precious mother, father, grandmother, and grandfather to allow these hateful instruments of evil to snuff out that precious love. So I will pray for a calm and sweet peace to be with you tonight as you sleep. Rest and choose goodness for you and all of us who love you so much As we all have seen again tonight, we Still have much work to get done. And I am not tired no way soon.HZ

And while my heart is aching, I am lucky tonight because I don’t have children. My best friend’s kids are both young black men, barely out of high school. Well, they are like PBO; their dad is white, but, to the eyes of the world, they are black men. And why on earth should that be such a terrible thing? One just turned 18, the other attends college in Santa Barbara and he was around the corner when that guy went on a shooting spree earlier this year. So, he’s got to watch out for crazy guys on a shooting spree AND the police, who are supposedly supposed to protect us from guys on a shooting spree! The guys on a shooting spree are NOT supposed to be the police! I’ve known those boys since before they were an idea. When something like this goes down, I want to reach out to my friend but I hesitate to call because I know just it’s too much for her. Her youngest is heading off to college out of state soon.

Prayers and light and love for all who are suffering tonight.

To the whites on this board: i encourage you to talk to your families, friends, colleagues about their racism…even though you know it’s not going to be an easy conversation. They will listen to you eventually. They do not listen to us. Talk to your preachers. Sunday morning is the most segregated time of the week…this is wrong. I’m in Florida and visiting a local church for two Sundays and they won’t even ask my name! I’ve been to a church in Baltimore and my mother and I were asked not to return! Another black child is executed for being black! A noble and amazing President is constantly ridiculed and humiliated! People live thinking this cruelty is justified. They might not shoot anyone but their words and actions kill spirits, dreams and hope…destroying peace for everybody. Excuse the rant. My heart hurts. Thank God, I don’t have any children. I pray for this madness to end.
